In this first episode of a new series, I tackle a NCT (National Car Test) failure of perished front brake hoses. Both hoses get replaced, along with a bleeding of the brake system.

  • Nice spec and lovely looking example. I have the 750li here in Vietnam. Terrible maintenance record before I had it but slowly getting through the usual jobs. Love it.

  • The E31 8-series has a couple of things going for it: relatively low production numbers for mass produced vehicle (around 30,603) yet sharing parts with other models (such as E32 7-series and E34 5-series) produced in larger numbers to keep costs down. Not a fan of the E65/E66 but thanks for posting the video.

  • I see the brake-hardline keeps dripping. When replacing brake lines or calipers you can keep the brake peddle pressed so that the brake fluid stops dripping out.

  • This brake line hose is a very common problem on the e65 e66 7 series. From the two that I've owned so far, they have both had the front and rear lines crack.

    • Mine just started to crack. I’ve been to 5 places and nobody will do the job. Why is it such a big deal to replace the brake lines???

  • Just an observation but did you realise you were robbed in the time between taking out the 8 series and backing in the 740. Someone had your logs and a bag of sand away. Also given the trouble you had removing the wheel it would pay you to clean up the mating surface as this is where to get stick Fantastic video as always however I'm curious as to how much the road tax for the 740 is ROI

    • I moved the bags in between takes. :) Tax is €1809 a year.

  • Explain to me distant! Why do you spend crazy money on these mechanisms and then wallow on the ground at the risk that some kind of stupor will break and crush you like a toad. If you can buy a normal inspection pit and work from it! which is much cheaper, safer and more convenient?
