  • Autistic people are often misjudged as "being trapped in their own world" when in fact they just see the world in a different perspective. Just like Christopher said about being "normal". I'm glad he is able to express his words nicely to give us an insight about his struggles and capabilities.

    @sentientkoffee972@sentientkoffee9722 жыл бұрын
    • I have had shutdowns where I find it hard to speak and I feel miles away from people and want the world to grey out because I'm overloaded. Maybe people look at the "trapped in their own world" as what happens when we are stressed. Some autistics are under a lot of stress depending on how their autism plays out. A part of me also does like to be alone for much of the day. I am happiest with my cat and a book. Too much social interaction can make me very overwhelmed. I think those traits might be behind it. Severe shutdowns can even cause body posturing/ rigidity where I did not want to move. Extreme stress. But if can look like being disconnected. But you are right...when not under duress...I do not see how that sentiment applies...

  • There is such a difference between boys with autism vs girls with autism and it really amazes me. Boys have a much more outgoing and loud kind of autism and girls have a much more quiet and shy kind of autism. It does very depending on the person but this is the most common kinds. As a girl with autism I find all of this very interesting and learning about my mental disorder really fascinates me. From the outside autistic kids quite often just seem happy but it is actually a really hard mental disorder to have. I have mad respect for everyone who respects autistic people and I’m very proud of all the other autistic kids who manage their autism and those who even try to because I know how hard it is to have this disorder. ❤️

      @kpaxian6044@kpaxian60442 жыл бұрын
    • That's not actually true. There are two different expressions of autism, true, but they aren't actually related to gender, it's just extraversion vs introversion. Boys with autism that are shy and submissive are usually picked up as autistic, but girls who have these traits are not, because of gender stereotypes. On the other hand, when autistic boys are loud and extroverted, they are picked up as autistic, but girls who are have their symptoms put down to borderline personality disorder or behavioural problems. The difference in diagnosis between boys and girls is due to bias in the medical field, not there being "boy autism" and "girl autism".

      @robokill387@robokill3872 жыл бұрын
    • @@robokill387 That’s exactly what I was going to say! The ratio in diagnosis of boys to girls is roughly 5:1. My brother and I both have autism, but he was diagnosed at the age of 3, and I wasn’t diagnosed until a month ago at 18 years old. The under diagnosis of women and girls on the spectrum is a really serious issue that I wish was talked about more.

A teacher that feels like a rock when times get tough, but knows how to support you when you need help up. She didn't give him the answers, she guided him to get there on his own. She just enforced that he knows his stuff. I never had a ms ayesha, but when i have children of my own, i really hope they have someone at school aside from home like her there.

    • I had the best (French) teacher you could think of. Others didn't like her, because she was so organized and strict with rules. I loved her. She did so much in those 3 years, she became my counselor/mentor (I don't know the exact English word for it) and helped me with all things regarding school and the rest. She didn't get paid for helping me so much, but she did it because she wanted to:) A few days ago I suddenly got a text asking about how I've been, so even now she still thinks about me:) So I totally agree with you, we need more teachers with that patience and positivity. That works well for everyone:)

    • @@Unknown26557 The average income for teachers in the US is $ 62,000 a year. They are most certainly not underpaid like they used to be. And the unions have their back and make sure they are spoiled rotten. There are a ton of teachers out there who make six figure incomes. Your comment is false about income. I do agree that many teachers put up with crap that they should never have to but that's a whole different issue.
