Common On Self Love, Jennifer Hudson, Mos Def & Drake, Favorite Producers, + New Book

2024 ж. 23 Қаң.
65 496 Рет қаралды

Common sat down with Ebro in the Morning for a conversation about his career, the importance of self care, his newly revealed relationship with Jennifer Hudson, and more.
The multi-talented rapper began the conversation discussing the importance of self love, meditation, and the importance of taking some time to yourself. He also opened up about a star-studded conversation between Jay-Z, Steve Stoute, and Nas in which they discussed the importance of vacations.
The Chicago native then opened up further on his relationship with Jennifer Hudson, how they met keeping things private, and even working on some art together.
Common also revealed he is working on a brand new album with Pete Rock and discussed the different producers he has worked with throughout the years.
Other topics include Andre 3000, Nas' talent, an old conversation between Kanye West and J. Dilla, the Mos Def & Drake conversation and Hip Hop going pop, his top 5, and even his dislike for mac & Cheese.
His new book 'And Then We Rise' is out now!

  • He never said he had problems with Drake. He just said that his music is pop and it reminds him of shopping. We need to normalize having an opinion without it being hate… 💯

  • Thank you Common. You remember when Drake gave you a shout out on his earlier songs like Thrill is Gone"(2006) and was making music compatible with yours " Room For Improvement" (2006). Mos Def seems to forget he cosigned Drake real early in his career by having Drake open for his show via 2005 or 2006. Drake said coming up in his early career (2004-2006) in 2010 that he use to just listen to Common, Phonte, J Dilla etc. and didn't care for the mainstream at all . He knows about Drake boom bap/backpack rap roots just like Common does, that's how you know it was little bitterness on Mos end, but Mos is an amazing lyricist "Black on Both Sides" , Blackstar and the work he did on Lyricist Lounge (97 Rawkus days) undeniable greatness. That's why Drake called Common a god on Stay Scheming because he looked up to him lyrically and content-wise coming up.

    • Mos def want hating on Drake , he was making a statement of consumerism. the expanded clips has been released, if u hear the rest of what he said, it really wasnt about Drake but using Drake as the example since he was asked about Drake

      @mrlij6534@mrlij65343 ай бұрын
    • @@mrlij6534 Regardless of what Mos was trying to imply, there's something he needed to understand which is hip hop is not a "street" genre anymore. Nowadays you got rap songs for all kinds of ears, ranging from drug rap, boom bap, melody rap, boogie rap, braggadocio rap, trap, luxury rap, mumble rap and the list goes on. Mos Def sounded like he wanted hip hop to remain seen as "street music". Hip hop is the most popular genre in the world right now, and Drake was definitely a part of that movement along with Kendrick and Cole who are very different artists but all three of them helped keeping hip hop alive and evolving to other demographic groups by experimenting fusing hip hop with other genres. I love Mos Def but I have never heard anyone say Mos Def is in their top 10 compared to Drake, Cole and Kendrick respectfully... he should be showing love to these young artists instead of trying to put them in a box. Just giving my $0.02 though

  • I beg to differ. Rapping is what we do on a day-to-day basis, if you on the block rapping with your homeboys that's what you doing. You are rapping about this that and the third. Hip hop is a culture that is deeply rooted into the very fabric of where we come from. Fee facilitate what we feel through hip hop, rapping is what we do everyday, but it's not necessarily culturally driven from my point of view. View. Hip hop is break, dancing, graffiti and of course the music that we've all grown to love. That's just my opinion and my assessment.

  • I cant front on commons contribution to hip hop, he also seems to be a fairly nice person in general... But anybody talking in public about "self love"should be locked up in jail until he/she apologizes to the public and promises to never do it again. The person should also be obligated by law to stop loving themselves immediately! I didnt watch the interview yet but i really hope he did not actually say this type of stuff, thats where i draw the line, its just too far.
