I pray Thorfinn doesn’t die but it appears that is kinda the direction Yukimura wants it to go. In reality, Thorfinn died in a very anticlimactic way from disease. I think Yukimura wants to make it more symbolic.
The historical thorfinn that returns and dies of illness will likely be bug eyes

I think this is not what is going to happen, I think he won't show he dying, it will be a mystery to the viewers to speculate what could have happened, because there's a lot of Thorfinn, so the real one may will show up to be the actual settler and the one we followed is coincidentally named Thorfinn and he was involved in things that the real one did, but for the sake of mystery and no clear answer they won't show exactly it, but people can theorize whatever. But I could rather like to see our Thorfinn living a happy life until his old age, not wanting to be famous for anything, no title nothing, just a simple farmer in a simple farm, the maybe the real historical Thorfinn is a relative that carries the name of his family, and is going to be known as the historical character. Like it's finishing a legacy from someone who worked really hard to start.
@@CrossriderBankai23 Ok but that doesn’t make sense. The real Thorfinn also went to Vinland. The first child to ever be born in the Americas was Thorfinns’s. His real life wife was Gudrid. The Thorfinn we know in Vinland Saga is definitely supposed to be the real Thorfinn.

Is that from you or do you know who it is from? I‘m sitting here, completely shocked by this view on war (and hate itself). It‘s soo…brutally true. It feels like this quote grasps humankind in a really pure form. How interestingly obscure.
The moment people who think this way actually get punched in the face is the moment they stop thinking this way. Today’s internet culture has given people loads of pent up aggression and made them war enthusiasts in theory, but when they actually get into a fight they’ll piss their pants and renounce “war” in an instant. Specifically with that one panel of Einar asking where else they can make a land of peace if not Vinland, it makes me think that thorfinn might actually go back to Iceland and crest a land of peace there. It would have a nice message of how the land of peace was under his nose the whole time, and it would also tie up Sigurd, and Halfdan’s characters up well
Man when i first saw hild i swear i didn't like her but when i saw i forgive you thorfinn scene and this scene where she helps him she got my respect and she will become one of my fav

I wonder if adjusting back to a far colder climate than Vinland will have negative effects on Thorfinn's health.

@alexvaughan1013 Actually irl the real thorfinn did live with his family in Iceland and died only a few years after he got back of some illness so if he does survive and go back that's the likely outcome. Smart guy you are.

She encourages Thorfinn not to lose his heart and not give up even though his dream, the land of peace, is burned into ashes by war. The interactions between Thorfinn and Hild in the Vinland arc make this arc my favorite. I hope they all can survive from this crisis even the only solution is to retreat and back to Iceland just like what is said in the historical saga.
It’s getting intense and the odds are stacked against Thorfinn and everybody! Hope they all make it off of Vinland and go back to Iceland.

One of my favorite recent chapters. Made me tear up.
I don't believe that Thorfinn will be able to survive this experience. I have doubts that people could have healed lung injuries back then. Besides, it makes sense from a narrative perspective. Vinland Saga can't end with "and they lived happily ever after". I am sure that his wife and his kid will survive.

My whole life I’ve been an idealist. My favourite song for years has been a song that ends with the line “I have no enemies” repeated . It’s funny because Vinland saga teaches a lot of people to be kinder . It has taught me to be tougher . To realize that achieving peace as a personal goal isn’t always realistic . I still don’t need to have enemies , but sometimes you have to fight to defend what you believe in. Hilds line hits hard , because . She knows that Thorfinns dream isn’t possible in the world as it is right now . And yukimura knows that too. But maybe someday there will be a hero, or story that shows us that peace is possible ..
I got the impression that Thorfinn might already be sick and the out-of-breath thing is because of that. Or maybe it's because the wound Garm inflicted on him almost on the same place. Who knows. I think a sickness puts a convenient writer's deadline for Thorfinn's character and a nice way to say his farewells and maybe make Hild the main character to end the series. I don't think there's a trip back for Thorfinn either way. Maybe it ends up like Gundam IBO with Gudrid and Hild raising Thorfinn's kid and Carli together in some other place. Maybe Pulmuk pulls something off to quell the ire of the natives or they start infighting and leave but I don't see another "War in the Baltic Sea" conflict happening. It does feel like the end of the story, and all is needed are some arc wrap ups like Thorkell's and Canute's. Who might just disappear like Thorgil, Snake or others.
When Thorfinn fell down you can see that he got hit with 5 arrows total, it's tragic.
I can't wait to see the wheatfield shot in the anime when it comes out.
I really thought thorfinn was clocking out but now im betting the indian has medicine man plot armour to use on him and then maybe he can convince other natives to help him protect the settlement or at least resolve it with out a full on slaughter

My worst fear and also secret dark hope is that Thorfinn will be forced to renounce his vow against killing. seeing him absolutely merc dudes again would be a horrific tragedy but it would also shred, and thematically I kinda think it makes sense. Either way, I don't think our boy is making it out alive but hopefully he can leave some semblance of his dream behind
I don't think he will resort to that. If anything he will do what Thors did in his final moments

@@kikoano111 Yeah that's true. I feel like if he does do that, he will make more of an effort to steer his child in a better direction. It's not that Thors was a bad father, it's just that he couldn't predict Thorfinn would be so consumed by hatred. But if the same thing does happen, that would also be thematically relevant to the cyclical nature of conflict
If thorfinn did survive and go back home like the real thorfinn, the message of the manga would be different but very common in eastern story telling, even in japan, which is, to let go of impossible dreams as they only bring harm to you and those around you and to instead settle for a middleground while appreciating what you have. The real thorfinn ended his life in iceland in a similar way, failed dreams, disgraced, but he had his family with him.
Haven’t read the manga in a long time I think I’ll just wait until the anime catches up but here’s a comment for the algorithm!! Good stuff Ryan

It would really suck for Thorfinn to just die and not even accomplish not only his, but the main message and even the manga's title's message. Imagine reading Berserk and Vineland Saga, and watching all these characters endure and struggle with a harsh life just do die like a dog, and not achieve anything.
I mean it was never achievable from the start. You just can't make a place war free it's literally impossible
its a tricky thing to writte but from the beginning we knew what thorfinn would try wouldnt work (based on the real world). Yukimuras job rn is to even when faced with harsh reality send the message once again. I fully trust him to nail it.
you do know vinland was not succesful in real life, and the manga is based on real history right? lmfao Berserk also wont end with Guts killing griffith or whatever either. Only smoothbrained readers think a story is supposed to give them the most obvious, '''''satisfying'''''' ending.

@@basementreviewer788 yeah so? First off a lot of Manga are based irl, biggest example being fma and still having a good ending. Second, it's a fantasy world where you as an author can accomplish whatever you want in it. Third no one here mentioned a good ending, and even Miura himself said that guts will get a happy ending back in 2000, and in 2015 he said that he couldn't let a grim story get such a grim ending. So not only are you ignorant to his words and wishes, but also arrogant enough as to assume he's just an edgy doomer like you.

Thorfin is likely out of breath due to the chest wound causing pneumothorax. Usually, the pleural space is kept under negative pressure but a puncture to the chest would lose that negative pressure and the lung would shrink down (atelectasis) so you cannot oxygenate your blood via your lung. He is likely only breathing with his left lung only.

This reminds me of John Michael Godier's interesting video about the sentinelese tribes living in a zoo hypothesis. I wonder if anyone has ever watch it on youtube? 🤔 It only makes sense & is understandable from a natives POV that they would defend themselves (by aggressive/violent means) from settlers knowing they have a high chance of getting ill & die from a disease outbreak since they have weak or less developed immune system against foreign pathogens.

Theres a longrunning theory that due to there being two thorfinns in the group and only one historically coming back that bug eyes would be the one to return. This chapter seems to confirm it.

I don't think Thorfinns lung is punctured. I think it might be damaged, but not punctured, because if it's punctured, he's going to be way too cooked to have any relevancy in the war. He probably won't live until negotiations if he's punctured.

Thorfinn will die. The story will follow historical fact. The message the author want to tell us is the "ive no enemies" legacy will live on in future generations even though there will always be war. Just like world war and now.
This chapter was much more depressing than the latest Berserk chapter. Seeing all your efforts to reform being burnt down and imagining your friends questioning your philosophy is downright hurtful. I pretty much expected Thorfinn to go back to warrior mode had Hild not been there, it was pretty much die with arrows or that.
😞 I'm not ready for this, another manga I love is trying to kill the main character who suffered too much, and deserves to age, and be a grampa, 😢 why please don't do this, let Thorfinn live 😫 I wanna see him old like Leif Erikson, I want to see his best friend along side with him, the sons he will have, I hope the guy of the tribe helps him, could be interesting if he hide him somewhere and the others will never know about it, let the wife and baby escape, and somehow they will establish themselves in another location, and maybe they will think Thorfinn actually died, there could be some time skip, he will learn to understand them, and talk with them, and in the next years the adopted child will live thinking of revenge, and the other baby will grow up thinking about revenge, but I could like to see a way where Thorfinn survives but not dying, but heal and live among the tribe, this could be the blot for the Nordics to settle somewhere and develop themselves as a city, that is probably not going to follow the ways that Thorfinn wanted, so they will make weapons, equip themselves with the same Nordic knowledge, Einar changing character could be interesting, remember how Einar was portrait on anime, full of rage and vengeance, if he gets old knowing Thorfinn is dead and was the tribe's faut, he could develop to be a interesting character in the future, pushing towards a extreme methods, he could eventually regret and see the consequences of his actions, and in the future be able to meet with Thorfinn years later, a reunion that could be a perfect way of ending it, show some stuff that happened on England, Old Canute until his actual death, the new kings after him, Thorkell as a old man wanting to fight 😂 Ketill's family with the next generation, and other historic moments... This is the ending I think it could be like 🤔 the mangaka knows he need to make us cry way more than the end of AoT😅

Nah I believe thorfinn gonna pull a thors and sacrifice himself I like thorfinn but losing it all bc he dosent wanna fight leads to nothing only leads to him and his peoples demise. The disease they spread on the natives is killing them off slowly and a peaceful talk won’t do nothing honestly violence is the only way. King Canute ideals is more realistic and a balanced. It’s human nature.
He'll either die or return home with his wife and kids, knowing his dreams failed, and his reputation damaged beyond repair. Just like the real thorfinn.

There is a popular theory that the thorfinn that returns will be bug eyes, and they'll be confused and blended together in history as time goes on. The main issue would be gudrid as the real thorfinn when going back to Iceland lived the rest of his life with her and their kids and even had another son. So unless they introduce a last-minute hookup with her and bug eyes, that's unlikely. Thorfinn irl died not many years after going back to Iceland and died somewhere in his early 30s. So even if thorfinn survives the expedition and gets to go home, he doesn't have that much time left. Irl, after he died, gudrid made a pilgrimage to Rome, became a nun, and spent her last days in a church snorri(their kid) built as a hermit. If it follows real life then one of the major themes of the story isn't being anti war or anti pacifism, but instead a warning to not chase unrealistic dreams as they will hurt you and those around you and to find joy in what you have instead of what you could have.
