Jerry Seinfeld honors Julia Louis-Dreyfus during the 21st Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at The Kennedy Center. An outstanding lineup of entertainers gathered in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall to salute Julia Louis-Dreyfus, recipient of the 21st annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on October 21, 2018. The Prize, which is named to honor one of the world's greatest humorists, was presented at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy. The event was taped by WETA Washington, D.C. and aired nationally on PBS on November 19, 2018 at 9:00 p.m. ET. Capital One is the Presenting Sponsor of Comedy at the Kennedy Center.
Under the direction of the creative team from Done + Dusted, the Kennedy Center’s new producing partner for the Twain Prize, the cast features many of Louis-Dreyfus’s admirers, friends, and collaborators, including Stephen Colbert, Bryan Cranston, Tina Fey, Ilana Glazer, Tony Hale, Abbi Jacobson, Jack Johnson, Keegan-Michael Key, Lisa Kudrow, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jerry Seinfeld.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus earned worldwide acclaim for her portrayal of Elaine Benes in the hit NBC series "Seinfeld," and as Christine Campbell in the CBS hit comedy "The New Adventures of Old Christine." She currently stars in, and executive produces, the HBO series "Veep," which will soon begin its seventh season.
Between all shows combined, she has received eleven Emmy awards (six consecutively for "Veep") with twenty-four nominations, a Golden Globe award, nine Screen Actors Guild awards which makes her the most decorated actor in the history of the SAG awards, three Television Critics Association awards, five American Comedy Awards, a Peabody Award, and the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy. She has broken the record for the most Emmy's won by a single performer, as well as the most consecutive wins for a single role ("Veep").

  • This may be the best performance by Jerry that I have ever seen. He has honoured Julia with a speech that was fluid, warm and clearly demonstrates the depth of his fondness for her. He is genuinely full of joy and pride at Julia's success. This is in Stark contrast to the cynical, jaded, (still very funny) character Jerry - and the other three - presented in the show. Perhaps he can act, just a little, after all.

They always say that Jerry has all the money and that may be true, however he has shared that by launching all these amazing actors to stardom from HIS show on NBC. He and Larry were up for hours writing and creating scenes then Jerry would have to show up early for the read then off to the set they go. • MORE successful than Tom Brady?!? More successful than Tom Brady... *sigh* You absolute goon. Julia was born rich. She was born into a family more wealthy than 99.9% of people on Earth. She was on SNL. She was already on tv. She already had the world by the balls by virtue of where and when she was born. It also wasn't her show. She didn't have to Produce. She didn't have to write it. She had little to no say so in any of its' inner workings. Tom Brady has won more Super Bowls than any other Quarterback in the entire history of Football. Over 100 years of Football games, and not one other person alive, or who has ever lived, can say that. Julia acted on a tv show she had nothing else to do with... It's people like you who really scare me. Weirdo sycophants. Letting emotion override facts. The world has enough people like you already, we don't need anymore.

    • I agree. I also loved seeing so many of my favorite comedians sitting in the audience to honor Julia Louis-Dreyfus, all smiling at Seinfeld's sweet tribute to his dear friend and co-star. The fact that Julia remains physically stunning without obvious surgery and without looking Hollywood-fake only makes her even more amazing. My own breast cancer diagnosis coincided with her public announcement that she'd been diagnosed; I was in the hospital after a bad reaction to my first chemo and was watching my own long hair fall out in clumps when she tweeted her bad news. Weirdly, it made me feel better to know that illness doesn't care about TV-star money and fame, and that an Emmy wouldn't have prevented this cancer, which in my case was a total shock (I'm a young non-smoker, have no family history, and am brca negative). Though I didn't make a point of following her progress I hope - since now I'm okay - that Julia too is firmly in the "survivor pool" of former breast cancer patients. I hope that, like me, she too will eventually be able to look back at 2017/2018, remember how awful it was, and just be grateful we got through it.

    • That's not what he's saying. He's saying with respect to Jerry's relationship with Elaine he didn't have to act because the feelings his character was supposed to possess, he actually did possess. However, Jerry Seinfeld the character is absolutely not the same person as the real Jerry Seinfeld, so he was acting.

    • George and Elaine are a tie imo. Both genius actors. Kramer might as well have been the network note. His slapstick style was outdated long before Seinfeld premiered. He was just there so that the show could still appeal to less intellectual audiences.

      @JeremyGalloway@JeremyGalloway5 жыл бұрын
    • Jeremy : Kramer was hilarious because he seemed so serious about his silly plans and ideas, it wasn't at all about his slapstick aspect (which is also funny). Kramer was BEFORE Michael Scott and Dwight, so he was ahead of his time. Kramer = Dwight/Michael Scott: fools that don't realize how ridiculous they are because they're actually taking themselves seriously. But yeah, George+Elaine genius actors

    • Well said - Clean comedians are hard to come by these days... Jerry is clean and respectful of others... His show on Netflix - Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee - show how for real he is and how great he is at interacting with fans. The episode he had coffee with Ellen shows very clearly why he is still going and she is offline, actually, the episode with Ellen was hard to watch - so bitter and neurotic about everything... Jerry tried the best he could to save it, but it was hard to watch regardless... The episode with Julia, however, was hilarious - Julia is adorable and it was fun and relaxing to watch and have some coffee with them...

But, I was thinking about that part after "Elaine" hurt her back and Jerry was trying to convince her that being with his "parents" on the episode wouldn't take that long, because of all the things that would subtract from the time while they were there. To greatly minimize the situation, I think Jerry finally said to "Elaine," after he'd minimized their actual time there by more and more, she'd only actually have to be with Jerry's "parents" for, "59 minutes," while they'd actually have to be there for several days. There were SO many things that just fell into place, making this show work and bang on all cylinders. Some of the things that just fell into place, specifically concerning Julia becoming Elaine: Her and Larry David both didn't enjoy their time on SNL. Network note: "need a female character." Larry suggests Julia to Jerry. Jerry and Julia have great chemistry. Julia loves the material. Her dynamic with the rest of the cast is equally phenomenal. Boom! Lightning in a bottle. (Plus, she's just a fantastic actress and performer-which of course doesn't hurt.)
