I thought this too. He's really showing how perfectly he can jump, even with a swift change of direction, even when not cantering, the rider hindered him so badly. It's awkward watching them try to jump together, but a dream to watch him jump solo, he's like poetry in motion! I always prefer to see horses run wild and free without riders anyway, but this was a fun recommendation. Glad the rider was okay too, but her horse does not enjoy interacting with her. That is obvious.

Yes some people rip at horse faces, but you can clearly see that the horse wasn’t in pain here and that the girl wasn’t actually ripping at its face, if that was the case it would of most likely bucked her off, honestly you’re incredibly ignorant. How can anybody stop a BEAST like that? The horse being a goofball and a star came through. And perhaps him trying to finish the competition showed that not only did the horse want to be an absolutely star but the horse also wanted to win. It came to WIN. Absolutely gem

With the rider, the horse was knocking down poles but without the rider, it wasn't knocking down the poles. It doesn't take a genius to compare and figure it out. is it normal to have people standing in the arena like that? seems awfully distracting, with music plus audience, plus mirror, plus randoms standing behind plants near jumps. All it takes is a split second of oh there's a guy over there, to miss what you need to be doing at that high speed

I agree. Putting so much blame on the rider isn’t fair, I personally think she should have let the horse move out more and rely on her seat more than her reins but she knows what she’s doing and she’s jumping large fences.

Well, it technically did. The rider was knocked off because they lost balance.
He clearly just had one of those stutter steps where he misjudged the takeoff... Got confused between adding a stride or leaving long& so he stumbled through the fence & she lost her seat. Definitely didn't "knock her off" & it really wasn't HER fault, either (I've had that exact thing happen in warm up & my horse scissored the top rail with his front legs and we had a full rotational fall- it was pretty nasty- but it really wasn't either of our "faults," just a freak accident! And my guy was only 4; still learning!!) This was hilllllaaaRRRIOUS though!!!! What an awesome horse, I want him!!!!

I believe these people were applauding the horse's show of pure intelligence and talent. Rightfully so to, what talent! The rider fell off due to being unbalanced but it did seem to that that horse did far, far better without her on his back. Bloody heck that beautiful horse really showed off his or her talent here for sure, seems to really enjoy show jumping to.

@Aaliyah Rentoul You would be surprised. Horses are much stronger than scissors are. By far they are stronger than reins. Obviously you don't want them to get caught in the reins regardless but if they do and the reins are leather they can snap them much easier than you think. That is why "break away" halters exist. The leather on a break away halter is actually thicker than most reins but a horse is still able to break it. You really can't compare the force of a flimsy pair of scissors to a horse cantering. Obviously the horse cantering is much, much stronger.

@@maryisa2588 i get that they can snap quite easily when a horse puts force on them. But remember that they are only connected to the bit which must be unpleasant when they snap. All the force has to come from the mouth which can make the horse fear the bit in the future. So thats where the concern comes from👍🏻

The horse stumbled on landing at 8a, the rider lost her seat, came forward and then landed ahead of the saddle, couldn't get properly reseated, and eventually slid off.

Houston and Chianti For me it’s kind of hard to think about that because no matter how many times I’ve fallen off I’m always in a state of panic when I do, if I was able to think properly when I was I would let go of the reins and just let myself fall, so the rider probably was in the same state of mind as me when I fall.
I think they did a good job and the horse responded well to that fault. Some would freak out over something like that.

The horse did not knock her off. She lost balance and fell off. My concern, and I cannot tell exactly from video, is that the rider did not save herself. If both feet were out of the irons, she should have had the wherewithal to push back and fall properly on her butt instead of clinging to the horses neck and slipping to the front. Maybe her left foot was caught in the iron, the video does not confirm if this is true or not which would make the self-save impossible. Anyway, everyone is lucky that there were apparently no major injuries. I kind of wish they would have stood aside and let the horse finish the course (as long as the reins stayed on the neck) uninterrupted. In any event, even experienced riders should regularly practice the emergency “dismount” to save themselves and avoid collision with the horse. ❤️🐴❤️😊❤️
I kinda feel sorry for the rider. I’m glad she seemed ok. Sure, it was her own loss of balance that caused her to fall, and the horse did seem to time his jumps better without her, but falling off a horse is a much higher drop than most people realize and you hit the ground a lot harder than you’d expect to.

They'll do it only to survive in the wild (escaping a predator) and they do it only to avoid pain in an arena. That horse did NOT like his rider, you could tell from the beginning; he became much more loose and controlled AFTER she fell off from lack of paying quality attention to his strides. He did MUCH better without her and then when that second young lady came out he instantly stopped and touched his nose to her like "next time, YOU and I will be doing this, not that one."

Yes....I'm wondering why those mirrors are there. You usually don't have them for show jumping at all, as it distracts the horses. Looks like they converted a basic training arena for this competition and forgot about covering the mirrors.

A horse has no idea of self recognition. It cannot tell that the mirror is a reflection of itself. I know the original comment was meant to be jocular, however facts exist as well.

I believe that the horse is well trained me being an equestrian myself and people just have bad days. Those are VERY high jumps as well.

@@tiffany3652 Honestly, all these comments about yanking in the horse's mouth. It is called maintaining contact and the horse resisted a few times. She got a bad distance in a few places and fell off, she probably wasn't used to his stride.

This just proves that it's not the horses fault it knocked down a poll but the riders.
Or sometimes stuff happens, which it does. The horse could have taken off early on its own or the rider could have urged it into the jump a hair early. It's super hard to tell from just a video. In any case, mistakes happen on BOTH sides.

dogsnm Accidents happened and while in the air the horse probably was given too hard of a signal and backed in the air as the rider not holding on as the legs went high as to it sliding uo and falljng

I did this once, and then requested to change groups. My request was accepted. Because the person in question had a history of being a horrible person.
The horse NEVER knocked the rider off. The rider was off her game from the start. But what a beautiful animal. It almost seemed to bow to the crowd anytime it passed, as if to say "Brother, I can do this faster AND better without that rider. So, this is for y'all". BEAUTIFUL HORSE !!!!

My Flock / Evidently you’ve never ridden a horse because this is what riders deal with a lot. Ive grown up with horses and this is an everyday thing lol. I’m not defending the horse here, but when you ride horses, these are things you deal with a lot. I’ve been kicked, trampled, bucked, man I’ve even been rolled on. All I’m saying is that this girl is most likely fine. Most she’ll come out with are a few bruises. :)
@@softbread2073 It wasnt anybodys fault, she lost her stirrup so she couldnt properly balance herself, which made her fall. The horse didn't throw her, but she didnt do anythung wring that would have made her fall, it just happens sometimes.

Because it's about control. I have a horse who will speed up to the jump and if I don't hold him back he'll fly over that jump like a seal through a hoop. Then on the other side he'll do a flying lead change automatically and get really fast which knocks me off balance if I can't get him under control fast enough. Listen, before you criticize me and say I'm not a good rider, I am not a GOOD JUMPER who has not had a lot of practice doing such a thing.
When you go over a jump you do something called *two-point* .

This horse is awesome! It's obvious he loves to jump, since he wouldn't take the fences on his own it he didn't enjoy it. That enthusiasm in a horse is hard to find. I'd take this guy home in a heartbeat!
He's not enjoying it, though. You can see he follows a pattern, he knows exactly where to go, meaning he was trained until he perfectly knew that course. He probably was yanked on or smacked with the riding crop if he got it wrong or missed a jump, one of the reasons he didn't stop after the girl fell. I lived for years right next to a large equestrian centre, and I would often ride there, and I can tell you, the only time I've seen horses jump fences on their own was when they got afraid of something (loud thunder, small dog running around, etc.)

I think the girl he stopped for first time at the end is his actual owner, its not unusual for friends/barn mates to compete at the same competition on the same horse.
Well... probably would have worked better if stupid did not keep her crop in hand... obviously there is a lack of trust between the horse and the rider. And no code or listening whatsoever.

Lol, I’d like to point out that the horse was kinda being forced over those jumps, as it didn’t want to get caught (for a reason it does not like) and being directed into the jumps by people flaring their arms out like predators, keeping the horse going.

the horse clearly like to jump. but he's too much horse for her... she needs to jump lower fences on an older horse until she can learn to stop hanging on her horse's face. he's tossing his head the whole time because she's yanking on the reins. it's probably not on purpose, she's nervous because he's too much for her, but still... bad pairing.

Didn't look like the girl riding was the actual owner. He didn't slow down til he saw the girl come out of the crowd and there was obviously no bond with the rider or I think he would have stopped to make sure she was alright. Horses are so smart, I don't think he liked being lent out.
Lol my old pony would throw me and bronc straight over to the nearest patch of grass. We had a great relationship and a very close bond, but life isn't a heartland novel.
Sometimes riders are given challenges where they have to ride someone else’s horse- due to theirs not able to do the competition or other things.
I was riding a small black pony named Evan ( he was sold about a year ago 🙁) and it was my first time riding him and my barn had just gotten him and he was very spooky. I did not know him very well either, and we were cantering and he spooked at a tree and lunged to the side and threw a small buck and I went right over his neck ( lol ) even though he did not know me he stopped knowing if he went forward just a little he would step on me. I gave him a pat and got back on. You don’t need a bond with a horse to have them stop after you fall off, he was a good little pony even if he was a little spooky and that is why he stopped :)
Or that was the opening back to the lorrys/warm up area and the horse just wanted to get out of there. Notice it was just riders in that corner.

That is a professional horse. He knows his job. No need for a rider. Thats what you call a "million $ horse. An expert competitor.
