Discussing where Northwestern will be playing college football this year
Пікірлер
Just play at Soldier Field. It's temporary. It's built for Football and has parking. Lower deck only. If that's too expensive, then go to the soccer stadium. They're making this harder than it needs to be for a TEMPORARY solution.
@mae2759Ай бұрын
They could not do it with pro football also, the filed would never hold up, they would have to go back to turf, and NFL payers would have a fit. I don’t think that is an option.
@scotttildАй бұрын
Soldier field is grass not turf and it struggles to cope with just the Bears so two games in a weekend would be a disaster.

@@EpicSlug Plus, there's probably a rule that if they wanted to play at Soldier Field, they would be required to hire all the staff that work the Bears games, and that's probably not cheap. I went to the Iowa/Northwestern game at Wrigley Field last year and the vendors and security were the same employees that work at the Cubs games.
@posysdogovych2065Ай бұрын
@@posysdogovych2065 Correct the same stadium crew would have to work the Northwestern games because the contract most likely says they work all events at soldier field.

They also have the Chicago Red Stars (NWSL) at Seat Geek Stadium. Three home games are on Red Stars home game weekends either the day of or before the game. It may be an idea for 2025, but not this year.

Thank you for the update on Northwestern's Stadium.
@ginger00022Ай бұрын
Honestly, they have only 3 options: Play at Wrigley (10 miles away), build weird temporary bleachers, or cubtrek85's idea. Play at Seet Geek Stadium, which looks fine.
@SteveGee1986Ай бұрын
Even Niles North HS would be better than this option.
@bigj200016Ай бұрын
Wrigley is out for anything but maybe a one off game. It’s too small and they could not even use both end zones Maybe it works for one game but that’s it.
@scotttildАй бұрын
Considering Seat Geek Stadium’s relative lack of proximity to Chicago’s passenger rail network, its distance from Northwestern’s campus, and the general lack of bars and restaurants around the venue, I would think the Wildcats would want to play as few games as possible there this year.
@JohnScaerАй бұрын
That would be exciting In front of a lake, vertical seating, the atmosphere would be crazy. Wind would be a problem in Late October but who wouldn’t want to see a no FG/Punt game with winds of 27 MPH (on one occasion, not every game).
@sawyertuide7636Ай бұрын
Soldier Field and other nearby stadiums have other events scheduled besides football, so it's not always logistically simple. Northwestern has a scheduling agreement with Wrigley Field, but the problem there is a they can't play there until the baseball season is over. They got one game set at Wrigley and another likely at SeakGeek but have 5 other home games to place.
@ohiorobertstephensАй бұрын
If the city of Chicago has anything to do with this you know it will be a complete sh!t show.

We now have an update on Northwestern's plan. They have 2 home games in November. they will be played at Wrigley (one of them is Ohio State and I think the other is Illinois). Then they have 5 other home games, 2 of which are B1G conference games that will be played at the soccer/lacrosse "stadium" on campus. I don't know how many seats are in the current "stadium" but they appear to be permanent and on the West side of the stadium. There doesn't appear to be much room for stands on the south side of the field, which appears to be the football practice field. There doesn't appear to be much room on the east side of the field (which will continue to be used/shared with the soccer and lacrosse teams), without removing trees and field lights. That leaves the north side of the field, where temporary stands could be built. If that's their plan, they probably need to start moving on it soon. Northwestern is taking season ticket holder applications, and stating that it is very possible that there will not be any individual game tickets for sale for the 5 on-campus games. They will have a bloc of tickets available for the visiting teams, and will have tickets available for students, faculty, etc., but it looks like they are hoping that most, if not all, of their 5 campus home games will be sell-outs. The game against Wisconsin in October, I can pretty much guarantee will be a sell-out, as if you have a good arm and a rock, you can hit Wisconsin from there. Hope that his helps!

@PoliticallyIncorrect90Ай бұрын
It is totally unimaginable that within the city of Chicago (or even inside of 30-50 miles) there is not a suitable stadium to play college football for a season or two. If this were DFW, you'd have your choice of (in no particular order): Cowboys Stadium, the Cotton Bowl, Choctaw Stadium (former Rangers Ballpark permanently converted for football), McKinney ISD (FCS National champ. game), Frisco has 2 outdoor stadiums (Pizza Hut former FCS game) and the Cowboys' indoor stadium (albeit a little small for college), and, although terribly outdated, UTA Maverick Stadium. You also have the 3 local FCS schools (SMU, TCU, UNT -- play one game at each), as well as several high schools that could EASILY accommodate a school like Northwestern with absolutely NO problem: Allen ISD, Mesquite Memorial, and one or two others. Hell, if worse came to absolute worst, Dallas ISD has a stadium that could be used. So does a couple of school districts if 12K would work. Some of these venues would probably get into a bidding war if a school like Northwestern needed to find 6 dates a year.
@scott1564Ай бұрын
Renting out Soldier Field would probably cost more money than the game would generate with the non-conference cupcake games. Take a look at Empire Field, the temporary stadium the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps used during the two seasons. It was just temporary stands bolted together, but from a distance it looked decent. And fit about 22,000.

Northwestern should just play at Soldier Field with the upper deck closed for the next 2 years. Tulane did that at the Superdome for several decades. FSU needed to rebuild their seating bowl because that stadium is a giant erector set that got covered up by a huge brick building some years ago. The canopy might work because it’s a uniformly shaped bowl. But they play the majority of their games at night. I’d actually like to see a canopy at UF when Florida Field gets renovated but that may not work because it’s such an odd shape.
