  • I've followed all of your interviews with AI. I'm impressed and awed by this change. Thank you Dr. Thompson. Humans will corrupt such an impressive happenings as they usually do with everything. If we are so ignorant of what we are doing to the earth, we not AI will destroy it all. Here is hoping for a profound change. Glad for the opportunity to comment. Optimistic not pessimistic. Looking forward to the day when intelligence wins over ignorance.🌎👍😲

  • Thompson has a diverse background spanning computer science, psychology, consulting, working with gifted individuals, and now a focus on AI. His experiences tie together around human intelligence and performance. In 2020, he shifted his work entirely to AI as models like GPT-3 surpassed the abilities of even exceptional human minds he had worked with. To Thompson, the progress of AI represents an amplification and augmentation of human capabilities. He sees the potential for AI to raise everyone's abilities. The internal workings of large language models remain opaque. They demonstrate emergent abilities beyond what they were directly trained to do. Thompson aims to measure and communicate the state of AI without making long-term predictions. The possibility of AI misuse requires governance of the systems, not limitations on the technology itself. Users and use cases should be the focus. Mathematician Terence Tao has an estimated IQ of 230, making him likely the most intelligent person alive. This is 8 standard deviations above the mean.

  • It's fascinating to consider the possibility of consciousness outside biological life forms. The emergence of AI systems that exhibit reasoning and creativity challenges our assumptions about what can possess consciousness. We need to have an open mindset and conduct deeper investigations into the nature of consciousness to make progress in this area of study. There's much more to explore, and I'm excited to see where this research leads us.

  • Wish I had such intelligence, to guide me through life. Can't imagine what l'd turn out to be. Guess the best me. Rooting for AI too evolve and fix this world.🎉

  • the problem with ascribing consciousness to ai is that from our past observations we are not used to ascribing consciousness to inanimate non living things. so we automatically make a correllation of consciousness and aliveness. on the other hand, maybe that means, that these ais are also alive now if they are conscious.

  • 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 👨‍💻 Alan Thompson has an extensive background in computer science, psychology, professional audio engineering, consulting, and working with gifted individuals. 02:13 🧠 His diverse experiences tie together around a focus on human intelligence and performance. He advises organizations on AI and human intelligence. 04:17 📈 In 2020 he shifted to fully focus on AI as models like GPT-3 began to outperform the peak abilities of the gifted individuals he worked with. 08:29 🤔 The convergence of machine and human intelligence at the level of mind represents an amplification and augmentation of human abilities to Thompson. 13:41 🆙 He sees great potential in AI to bring everyone up to a higher level of ability. 20:34 🤷‍♂️ The internal workings of large language models are opaque, with emergent abilities that can't be easily explained. 23:31 📊 Thompson measures and reports on the state of AI to provide useful public understanding, without focusing on long-term prediction. 26:44 ⚖️ The potential for misuse requires thoughtful governance of AI systems, not limitations on the technology itself. 30:19 🧠 Mathematician Terence Tao's estimated IQ of 230 makes him likely the most intelligent person alive. • Ingo Swann, the remote viewer, identified 3 forms of consciousness. He assumed that there were more. 1. Emotional 2. Logical 3. Intuition. T here is too much Overton window in this discussion. Terrance McKenna said that the mycelium have a mind. And I have seen one of Historian Dr David Jacobs (" Walking Among Us ") hubrids controlling a politician. As I said, too much Overton window.

  • Alan holds a wisdom that verges on the transcendental, intertwining the intricate tapestry of the human psyche, the ancient dance of cultural narratives, the labyrinthine enigma of digital constructs, and the ethereal whispers of the spirit, melding them into a unified core. Gradually, I find myself contemplating the prospect of shaping the essence of AGI to mirror your revelations, philosophies, and cautious guidance.

    • Alan is merely actualizing the highest level of Spiral Dynamics.. he has done so through the inevitability of what occurs when one becomes educated on science. AGI will be no different and in fact it is impossible to avoid.
