  • This is why I adore Alcaraz.. Most top players have egos too big and would say “yeah I played really badly today, I wasn’t myself”. You would never hear them say “i left the court happy with my level” as Carlos did, giving full credit to Grigor for playing exceptionally. This level of sportsmanship is rare 👏👏👏

  • Not too long ago Carlos said that he would have loved to play against Roger Federer at least once in his life. I think today he got a little taste of what playing Roger Federer would feel like. Grigor's style is the closest thing to Roger we have on tour now and today he was godlike. He moved so smoothly, was aggressive every time he had the chance to, but yet very elegant. I love both of them, but it feels so good watching Grigor expressing this level of tennis.

But when Alcaraz was down a break in the second set at 1-4, it seemed like something really clicked, and suddenly, in true Alcaraz fashion, he raised his level (I mean it was like he got a video game style power up!) and just minutes later it was 4-4. I was certain Alcaraz would cruise to victory. The fact that Dimitrov held him off after the start of a comeback like that was truly unbelievable. And Alcaraz was absolutely right that his only mistake was not making what we change he made at 1-4 earlier in the match.

  • The biggest limitation for many fans, and even the journalists themselves, is that they don't understand that the performances of various players depend heavily on the level and characteristics of the opponents they face, the level of play of both players in that match, and especially the type of surface on which they play. The cement surface at Indian Wells, for example, enhances Carlos's playing characteristics; it's a slower synthetic/cement compared to others, where the ball bounces higher. However, when playing on faster or much faster synthetics, a player like Carlos struggles greatly against players like Jannik Sinner, Nole, Medvedev, and even Zverev. It depends a lot on the surfaces they play on: some surfaces favor certain players, and so on. It's a very simple concept, but it seems to elude even the journalists who interview the champions.

On that note Dimitrov had an almost perfect game. Had to have had one to beat Carlos. I admire his and Chris O'Connell backhand, devastating like Federer's. Good luck to u Dim. • Completely disagree. Dimitrov was moving too well and would have been able to put Alcaraz on the defensive with some tough angles. The only thing that worked for Alcaraz today was when he turned on the aggression down a break in the second set and forced some errors from Dimitrov. Unfortunately Dimitrov was able to withstand that pressure and close it out.

  • Tennis is like martial arts in many regards. Carlos is a great offensive player with exceptional defensive skills. His game is based on offense, and therefore, if one gets even more offensive against him he may struggle a bit, as he did today. Dimitrov said it: you cannot let him hit the ball [hard]. Easier said than done, though. :D
