I've been thinking about how the morale of customers has dropped during this console generation for 2K, and wanted to make a vid about what has lead up to this.
I've been thinking about my experiences with NBA 2K for the last 6 years, and also how the community has responded. It seems that in general, people have hated a majority of the 2Ks to release on this generation of consoles, with the only positive comments coming out of nostalgia years after a release (except for 2K14 obviously). I play myGM on hard and I try to realistically rebuild a team. My team hasn’t even past 55 wins yet, and occasionally I’ll play a game and set a franchise record. But it’s my only use for 2k.

@@christianmcclaine6885 that's funny cause alot of times I will play MyGM (highest difficulty) choose the worst team, in the hopes that I can rebuild through the draft, but simulate and end up making the playoffs. I then delete the file and up starting all over again.
In online matches your opponent absolutely should not be able to see who you are controlling on defense. This allows the offensive player to react to the double team immediately by seeing the text underneath the player, it's so unrealistic to be able to react to the defense this way. Same goes for the red double team circles. Players move stiff and sluggish this generation of consoles, fast breaks are ultra slow at random. No zip on passes. Wide open players run into the defense as you are passing to them. Arcade style outside shooting. Crossover stick is not as responsive as it was at the start of the decade. Wonky loose ball physics. Butterfinger ballhandlers. Hot/Cold streaks from quarter to quarter (I sometimes find myself unable to score for entire quarters after having a flowing offense the quarter before, yet nothing about the defense has changed) Unbalanced matchups in Online Team Up. No longer rewards for beating a higher ranked team. Historic teams missing tons of players (it is inexcusable to have a 7 man roster team) What do I like? They added way more players to the Online Player Control than Team-Up used to have. But you should have access to every player! About 95% of players will never ever be able to unlock the Tier 1 legends! WTF!

@@KidTrigger 2k is a popular game only because NBA basketball is popular right now, and there are no other decent basketball games to compete with it. It doesn't mean it's a great game just because people buy it. You can think i'm dumb if u want, you can enjoy playing 2k if u want, but the entire point of this video is to criticize how garbage 2k has been the last few years. It's not some random unpopular opinion bro, literally thousands of other people watching this are here for the same reason

2 things I don’t like about NBA 2K19 1. Defenses press up on you as soon as you cross half court, doesn’t matter if it’s the beginning or the end of the game 2. The lighting in the game is absolutely garbage. I don’t know why they stopped using 2K14’s lighting

3. Making contested layups happens to often. 4. The rate of 3s made in this game is why too high. 5. It is almost impossible to play defense. 6. The second worst 2k gamplay wise behind 18. 7. It is generally a very bad game.

@@Majuuub lateral quickness in the game is a meaningless stat due to the fact that the defensive player is always on skates and you have to practically flick the stick to stay with good ball handlers. And in the post, I don't know how many times I've had my man go up through my literal body to score. So it's impossible to play defense consistently

Nah I was starting high school when 2k16 came out and I played the shit out of that game. 2k17 wasnt what it shouldve been but i still logged a lot of hours in that game. 2k18 came out and fucked it all. I preordered and got the legend edition with all my friends so we could get back on our usual grind and it was just ruined. Ever since I only play offline once in a while but it mostly just collects dust.

I went back and played 2k14 on last gen and had the time of my life. The players are fast and you can hit tough shots, perfect releases were easier to achieve and you were rewarded for knowing you shot. It wasn't exactly like NBA basketball but neither are the current 2ks. It's impossible to emulate real life basketball so by not having a perfect engine it still felt more fun because I'm really actually trying to get highlight plays if I'm playing a game. It let me do that. That's what made it great.

This year the 3 ball is just stupidly overpowered. It’s crazy how it seems that shotcreators have a better chance at hitting 3s than they do midranges; when they’re a midrange build. Inside scoring is also broken at times: missing open or lightly contested dunks/ layups. I preferred how it was in 2k18 where you could abuse people in the paint if you were a slasher/finisher.
I got a 6‘11 92 ovr athletic rebounding pf with hof posterizer and hof finisher. Yet I get weak ass animations when going to the rim most of the time and miss easy layins under the rim because a guard is in front of me 💀
Christopher G. Ya it’s bullshit. Last year I had 6’10” shotcreating slasher pf and man I was honestly unguardable sometimes. I would bang on people like I was a combination of shaq and Blake Griffen. If they made it to close to how it was last year, it would make the game more balanced. Plus I also just made a shotcreating slasher sg and I just want to have fun slashing again.
buddy post scores can post up and do post fades and stuff dont get me wrong they can dunk but not nearly as much as a slasher thats what you use to dunk on people a slasher
i’m 15 and i’ve been playing 2k since 2k10. i’ve had every game in between (besides 2k11 and 2k14) and this video really expressed my frustration. my favorite xbox one 2k experience was 2k17. this game wasn’t great, but i had fun with it because i had VC. i had a few xbox gift cards from my family, so i used them all on VC. i had an 88 overall center and a mostly ruby/amethyst myteam that i grinded my ass off for. the next year, 2k18 was my least favorite 2k of all time. i didn’t have money to buy VC so i was stuck with an unplayable myteam, a terrible myplayer, and playnow online. that was the only thing keeping me playing. now this year, i can’t even play that because the gameplay is so bad. i’m missing wide open layups, the computer defense is ridiculous, and it’s just not fun. i wish i had more VC because the game is actually fun with it, but it’s impossible to grind enough for a half decent myteam and/or player. at least i have the mygm story. oh wait.

I remember back on the ps3 I would play 2k for HOURS everyday sometimes it’ll be a game I could play for a week straight. Now I start it up play a little and I lose interest pretty quickly the 2k devs know that they can keep doing the same shit every year and people are gonna buy it cuz people love the NBA and it’s the only decent game to get. 19 isn’t as shit as 17 or 18 it’s just completely average does nothing new as a NBA junkie I should be playing 2k every day now I find myself deleting it to make space for other games to play it’s gotten to that point where they gotta try something new or just continue in mediocrity like The Madden franchise

Credit where it's due, 2k revolutionized the sports genre and I think it spoiled us all for us wanting more out of our sports titles with an actual interactive narrative and a fleshed out association mode. That being said, greed eventually killed this franchise, along with bugs, glitches, a super scripted story, and issues being ignored. The gameplay soon followed and playing this game no longer feels as fun as it used to tbh. It feels like a rage inducing chore, regardless of your skill level.
Naw Madden did that and live did it for basketball 2k jus took it to the next level in both football and basketball but I see your point tho 2k gets hated on every year for everything and it's kinda getting old because if u don't like it don't buy it buy live or STFU lol

Since like 2k11 people have always sent criticism constructive and negative to the 2k devs each year on what should be changed/improved & it's like 2k just got tired of everyone complaining and gave up. So they gave us a shitty product as if it's their way of saying "you want something to complain about well here you go". They added alot of microtransactions and got they money than stop putting any effort into the game anymore. 2k18 is the perfect example of this. Alot of people complaining about microtransactions but I hate the gameplay the most. I can't make good shots, can't pass to a open player if my life depended on it, can't play proper defense and a whole lot of other shit! It's sad what's became of this game, I don't think 2k20 will be any better... smh I'm going to LIVE next year.

@Ashton Frailey I'm probably one of the best Play Now Online 2k players in the world but 2k has been trash lately. I bet you loved everything about 2k18 despite it probably being the worst game of the year you just eat up everything 2k throws out and don't question nothing because your a simpleton and basic so you see nothing wrong with something that's broken.
@Ashton Frailey If I were to argue with you I would look like a fool to others. 2k is broken bruh, I know green on most of my shots but yet 2k will say I release early or late and I'll miss. Passing system is broken, defense is broken even adjusting defensive settings are inconsistent with what I've set. These past couple of 2k's have been the worst ever. 2k11 through 2k15 I used to go on 25 game winning streaks on a consistent basis now on 2k18 and 19 I be lucky if I can win 6 games in row.

I remember waking up at 6:00 AM every morning on the weekends and playing NBA 2K10 on my Wii for hours up until my remote died... then I would charge my remote and play again later in the afternoon... that was 9 years ago and I haven't bought a 2K game since 2k17, much less consistently played one
Great video , I know you don't play my career much but my biggest gripe has been that in 2k17 if you wanted to make different characters they would all share the same xp so if I had a playmaker that was 95 overall and I wanted to make a sharpshooter i cod do that and my sharpshooter would be able to be 95 overall after I purchased vc of course, then I would just have to get badges. Also all of your characters would share the same items clothes, emotes, etc. Now it seems pointless to make multiple characters because it just takes too much grinding and bc I've made it to 96 overall on my lockdown defender this year I made a rebirth bud and I can't find the will to put time into any other characters cause I want to get mascots at 98 overall 😪🤷🏾♂️
and restriction. u don't get to create your player freely anymore. the more detail i give to my player the more effort i will put into it. but now i can't chose my attributes freely i got to rely on roll of a dice, my name, archetypes picking my badges. it made sound small but it not this help creates my style of play and affect my fun right? No because instead of creating a star i creating a role player that is not truly 99 overall. i dare you go create your player with the same stats u got now and tell me if it 99 overall.
I was booted from my mycareer finals game when we won the championship but when the final buzzer sounded, I got that lost connection screen. I had to redo the game

I actually bought NBA 2K19 for my iPad, which yeah they have a mobile game that cost $5. The game has Last gen graphics but the same my career story without cutscenes really. U still play in China and the G-League and during the time you can upgrade your player through upgrade points by how well you played and if you met a certain goal. That actually bumped me up from like 57 to 73 W/O VC. You still upgrade your player through VC when your player is in the NBA though.

@DOM what do you think of offline play of 2K? I play an offline Franchise or Season mode with my bro every 2K. I think the offline is good but not great. We try to play good realistic simulated basketball. I do rage sometimes because those computer glitches happen the more difficult the level of play. I try to play Hall of Fame but I feel like you have to play a perfect game. The cpu shoots 60%. They make contested shots. I think if they had a happy medium with that and fixed some of the other issues they might have something. What do you think bro. Great videos bro can’t wait for your next video. Peace

I agree with everything you said. Especially about the lag. Its absolutely crazy. 2k is the only game that lags for me as well which is one reason i stopped playing my team and park (also my park is so toxic)

Micro-transactions is what killed this game, when you make more money in micro-transactions than you did in actual sales of the of the game why would 2k feel the need to improve their game every year because no mater what they put out people will buy it & spend money in the game as well..

But who do you guys have as the 2nd best PF of all time? KG, Dirk, Karl Malone off the top of my head are the ones that seem like the best candidates, what do you guys think?
Probably Dirk at 2. Charles Barkley at 3. People think Malone was better but Barkley was flat out unstoppable for 6 years of his career. I personally dislike Malone, he's a terrible human being and he had the luxury of playing with Stockton, but you could put him as high as 2nd really, still KG was a better defensive player so I'd go with him. Malone 5th, or you could slide in McHale who most players very much respect as an unstoppable post presence. I really hate Malone as a human being so I guess I'm biased.
2k15 was great except for the fact that it didn't have Pro am. The role players in my career are the reason I don't have fun with it anymore. I want an actual superstar player, not someone who is really good at one thing and only average at best at everything else. The pay to win aspect is also a big problem. Edit: It's boring grinding the same thing year after year.

One thing I don’t like is the deep range shots. Everyone 3 pointer shooter doesn’t have Curry range. I shouldn’t have to try to contest half court shots.

I went back to 2k14 and don't regret it.
All i play is my league, and im constantly mad about the unrealistic salaries some players expect 3-4 years into a run, where good players retire early because im not trying to pay a 73 overall 15 mil a year. That and the computer builds teams with 5 centers, and somehow is still super good, or the tendency for teams with 2 80+ overall centers on a team makes them unbeatable while a team that plays like a modern team cant win on its own (the Bucks for one).
I personally don’t play the play now online mode because of the lag, part of it is my internet and part is the game. Due to both being a problem it’s really bad, I can’t even take jump shots because of the lag. I can only use the Bucks (who are a shooting team for the most part) and I just drive to the rim with Giannis.

also the A.I. man leaving shooter open not contested shots, letting cpu walking to the basket and take a shot, three teammates under the basket yet cpu get the rebound or putback. that's why i can only play three games top a day

I stopped buying the game 2 years ago. Waiting for the game to stop resetting my progress every year. I dropped $400 on 15 and $250 on 16. My friends stop playing and I always loose my progress. When I play League of legends I have skins and stats from 2011. Think about that.

I uninstalled and it hurts and im sometimes bored because of it but being a truck driver im not home often so Im not online and the 2K mycareer offline is unbareable. You cant level up your badges in a gym, if you do work a badge in game it might hit a peak. Got my limitless range badge to 4,920 xp but need 5K to get bronze badge and the xp meter wont move anymore
Aye all I'm saying is 2k 16 and 17 did have the same parks but thats the key. They had "parks as in plural meaning they had more than one park. Back then I didn't have to stare at the same park every time I got on or go against the same comp. I could switch parks and play new people.
the only reason i even play 2k at all these days is either vs my brother offline or the NCAA mod that infamousNY makes

Yo dom I really thought about making a video myself about this topic but I absolutely don’t as big a voice as you but I really might have a solution for online play at least on park, pro am, rec, play now online etc... obviously fix the matchmaking to fix overalls , play style & skill level, they try to but it doesn’t work. I think they should have neighborhood seasons with people in your overall level. If I first get the game & I decide to play park I should be able to have fun with the mf who paid to win to beat me. Ok you can say rep up & get to 90 , play with friends to have an advantage yes that does work but you gotta think of the less fortunate who also plays the game bruh it should be able to let everyone have fair fun online experience if they keep the pay to win features they should also had my idea to make the game better

i have some of the same issues. wide open layups not falling, often have to rely on 2nd chance layups which regularly do not fall as well. why do layups have the timing now? i understand it with hook shot. but timing a layup is a pain in the as especially when you expect a dunk. total garbage. 2k18 and 19 my FT% went extremely down....i am lucky if i have more than 35 % (despite tryin points in the paint most of the time). 2nd main thing in my opinion is the defense. it is way to hard to defend manually and stay with your opponent. I hate it when my friends let the Com do the defense. that's not playing against each other. and as the attacking player i can't pass the CPU defense in 2k19. other issues: uanessacry passes across the field, bump steals at least the chase down blocks where you a fast breaker who took the ball behind his head are over. it seemed like as far as i can tell All in all i got frustrated and decided not to play anymore. First time ever since 2k8

Never was into online play, only played with my friends or siblings at home
2K is a grindfest and they aren't even trying to hide it. They know players mindset and that people will keep on grinding even if it isn't fun. In the 2K11 days I could play multiple seasons of mycareer just like that, but now it's an uphill struggle to go through even one season before it gets really boring.
The one thing I despise them taking out for no reason was the create a legend or whatever it was called where you got to play as an actual nba player on career mode, I think nba2k13 was the last to have it and I used to finish up kobes career
They should only use vc as a way of buying packs (like madden does with their game)
