Man that stuff smells so bad. The smell on the highway most people are familiar with is NOTHING compared to a fresh, concentrated blast, that highway smell is just like an afterscent. It almost smells like dog urine, but like an overwhelming amount of fresh dog pee, old dog pee mixed together, like a dog pound almost, but times 1000. And it takes forever to go away no matter what tricks you try. I live in a small town with a lot of skunks and stray dogs and that's a bad combo, stray dog going after a skunk right in the tree line by my house happens 2-3 times year and it takes days just to fade into that highway smell.
The difference isn’t even comparable. Out in the country skunk smells almost farty, where as up close it smells chemically and HORRIBLE.
We have no skunks here so I don't even know what you're talking about. Sounds gross though.
Try getting a whiff of 21 dead skunks in a three mile stretch of road… me and my dad had to run up to the cabin one weekend to finish closing it for the season and by the time we were on the last leg of road before starting up into the hills it was well past late evening, and then then we smelled them. Once we were past that section, we quickly opened the windows to get some fresh air in the car.
What is funny is, I'm from Amsterdam and there's a marijuana called skunk, I was driving in Texas in the USA and I suddenly smelled this and my girlfriend smelled it too. I yelled out omg someone is smoking fresh weed and she thought it was a real skunk. They smell so similar, it was a weird experience.
Smells like burning tires and death to me.

My father grew up out in the country. He said when anyone got sprayed by a skunk they'd tie their clothes to a rock and sink them in the creek and leave them there for a few days. He said it got most of the smell out.
There has to be an easier way, right? Lol throw your clothes away! But yes, I know. You don't throw anything way back in those times.

Yes I have a pet skunk and he's just a little bean, he chirps for my attention and drools on my neck when he's enjoying snuggles haha. Plus He loves baths especially when you scratch that perfect spot and he kicks his leg like a dog! 😂❤

I was hiking with a nephew when his path and a skunk intersected. John wasn't looking where he was going and walked to within three feet of it. Told him to freeze, then slowly back away. Skunk just looked at him. Never even did it's warning thing. It finally just ambled on off the trail and out of sight.
I had the same thing happen to me. Was crossing through a field and it was dark outside. I stumbled upon a 🦨. It just stood there on its hind legs looking. I kept walking right past it but didn't get any closer. On the way back 20 minutes later, it was still there in the same spot. I didn't bother it & it didn't bother me

I occasionally encounter skunks in my job as a night security guard. Fortunately, I have always seen them and gotten out of range before they knew I was there. The most tense skunk-related incident I have had was when I had to get through a narrow place between the side of a building and a highway embankment, with a skunk hanging out in the middle of it. Fortunately, there were some of those decorative pebbles beside the building, so I stood a safe distance away and lobbed pebbles near, but not at, the skunk until it took the hint and left.
The Mythbusters couldn't get one to spray when they needed one for a "Detox" experiment. I do recall their solution that worked best had Hydrogen Peroxide in it to help bond it to Oxygen for faster removal though.

hydrogen peroxide , baking soda & dawn dish soap mixed together and used right away ..it works amazing!! for pets ..lather them up good with solution and let it st a few min then rinse them and shampoo them . :)

I saw a dog get sprayed under a street light at night, skunks put out a CLOUD of that stuff! There's no escape once they've decided to stench you!

@@TheUnderCoverMother2020 The orifice that yellow oil sprays out of atomizes it into teeny droplets which were highly visible due to refraction from the light of the street lamp.

Been there, done that. Mild chemicalburn whre i got sprayed. Which he did while facing me directly as i picked up the cage! As an adult i realized my dad proba ly should have thrown a blanket or tarp over the live trap before i got close🤨 edit thank the Lord for vinegar and tomato juice!

I had a skunk come beside me once while i was fishing. I looked down and there it was. I backed away. I watched it for about ten minutes. It foraged around for ten or so minutes. Found it some old bait. Ate it and left back across the golf field. Never bothered me. Never bothered it either. It would have won.
Now that's the get-up-and-go of a man expecting the *skunk* to run but the skunk deciding that it's the *man* that should run.
The skunk smell people are familiar with, is not the same smell as a fresh spray. It smells more like someone just shoved a highly concentrated vinegar, isopropyl, or ethyl alcohol soaked rag over your nose. Burns the nostrils. Use a tarp, either cover the trap ahead of time (I recommend), or hold a tarp up, and walk up on the trapped skunk. Use tarp as a wall inbetween you and the skunk. Then lay tarp over trap. After relocation, just open trap with tarp on it, and run! Trick is always keeping a tarp in between, it mean only the tarp will get sprayed. We used to make loops (on the corner of the tarps) so that even are finger were protected from spray.

If you’ve never smelled a FRESH, concentrated skunk spray up close, you really just can’t comprehend how overwhelmingly terrible it is lol
A fun fact about skunks: they can’t spray if they can’t raise their tail. When you’ve got them in a small enough live trap, they cannot spray you. Caught one that was rating my pigeon coop or I kept the birds I trained bird dogs with and I didn’t know what to do with it. Called an animal rescue service by the name of animals in distress. They sent their skunk lady. She Sweet talk that skunk out of that live trap into a small cat carrier. I said how in the world did you do that without getting sprayed? She said they can’t spray if they can’t raise their tail. She drove away with that cat carrier in the back of a small pick up truck and I guess she took it somewhere and released it. How she did that without getting sprayed, I don’t know😂
literally just got sprayed last night at like midnight. couldn't see it until it was too late and that smell is no joke. it's really really really bad. I don't think I'll be able to fully get it out of my truck

My dog got sprayed full on by a skunk. I gave her 2 full tomato baths, then 2 dish soap baths, then several dog shampoos. The smell didn’t go away for over 6 months!. Every time she sweat or got wet in some other way the smell would come back strongly. Also, the towels that I used to dry her never let go of the scent, even after so many soaks and hot water cycles in the washing machine!
Tomato bath is a myth, it doesn't actually work. There's some hydrogen peroxide combination to use that is a good solution

Exactly and they don't spray unless its last resort and life is in danger. I have videos on my Channel of them coming right up to visit me on my porch. I've never been sprayed! I've seen the warnings thou and they give a few before ever trying to spray.. unless under direct attack. This skunk here just did the warning false charge but his butt is facing the camera lol. In my videos... I've got skunk butts facing right at me and nope not sprayed once. I even got to pet a tail. These videos Crack me up and so many myths about skunks. They love the raisens I feed them 😋 We live harmoniously on my property. I have a family of 5 skunks that live under shed

Doesn't work. LOL use Hydrogen peroxide and Dawn dish soap to cut the grease. Skunk spray is oily. The tomatoe juice doesn't break it down adequately. 😉 the peroxide breaks down the smell.

I have some on my Channel if you want to see wild Skunk encounters. They come right up to me for raisens. LOL. I have a family of 5 I interact with. Even got to touch a tail and a skunk kiss on my toe. They are really cute and don't spray often.. thats a myth. Only after warnings and in fear of life. They have limited spray and it takes 3 or more days to replenish...leaving them defenseless those nights... one of my skunks save me from a Wild Lome wolf. Pretty cool little creatures. Check em out. Our dog got sprayed next to our front door last summer, and we couldn’t get rid of that smell from the house for months! Then dealing with the sprayed indoor dog at 10:00 at night was a nightmare! For months, if the dog got wet we could smell the skunk smell.
Peroxide, baking soda and dawn dish soap.. its oily so the dawn breaks that up. Tomatoes juice doesn't break it up..bath the dog in that mixture next time. 😉
