  • The word SIMPLE doesn’t begin to describe this project. I never seen so much heavy metal cut, a multitude of holes drilled and then taped. Fine piece of engineering.

  • Very nice. Looks robust and trustworthy. Didn't like the green, but that's just a minor detail. Fork cable lugs in that terminal board would be a better choice, but you tight them very well, would do the job just fine.

  • Nice job. Thank you for sharing. I notice your wheels or rollers, are about 3” or 75mm wide. Also, you’re using a 2X48 belt. Did you do this so you can use multiple sized belts? If so, what other sizes fit on this machine. Just asking out of curiosity. I am working on a belt grinder that will run 1X30 and up to a 48” as well. I was only going to make my rollers 2” wide though. I think I like yours better though.

    @coopertichelbaut1231@coopertichelbaut1231 Жыл бұрын
    • Exactly! these rollers should give the possibility to use 70-75mm wide belts (i didn't test that side yet though). I'm already using this belt grinder from time to time and I'm really happy with it.

  • Hello... could I used my electric motor 1 phase 1.5 HP with 1500 rpm? What cons about slower speed of electric motor?

    @kratingdieng@kratingdieng Жыл бұрын
    • Hi! There are cutting speeds which are good for certain materials. If you have a 1500rpm motor you and want to grind steel you'd have to make the drive wheel bigger so the cutting speed is the same. Depending on what material you want to grind - do some research of what cutting speed the material needs and just adjust the drive wheel diameter. Vc=(PI * d * n) / 1000 where Vc is cutting speed [m/min], d = diameter [mm], n = rpm of drive wheel. If you are operating in inches - just adjust this formula to inches or find a formula prepared for inch-based units :) I mean - you can grind with slower speeds but it will hurt the efficiency.

      @GBWM_CNC@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
    • @@GBWM_CNC Your answer with details explanation make me speechless. My primary purpose for this belt grinder project is for knife making purpose. Secondary, for general metalworking. So what do you think about 2 HP with 3000rpm?

      @kratingdieng@kratingdieng Жыл бұрын
    • @@kratingdieng 2HP 3000rpm is exactly my setup. Works great in my opinion and when I was doing the maths for my belt grinder - a drive wheel with a diameter of about 160mm (a little over 6 inches) seems to be quite right to achieve the right cutting speed for grinding steel. The power of 2HP (1.5kW) in my opinion is enough - I wasn't able to stall the motor and at the end of the video you can see that with the right belt it just eats steel like crazy.

There are better alternatives out there, I'm sure you will find them if you google about it, search for lock washer (and ignore the split washer). I think they might still work on soft steel if you really make them bite into soft steel and the corners of the split are sharp. I also thought they are defacto standard until I had to get into that topic and I was surprised to read that they are called to be useless.

¡Saludos!

  • good job,,, no welding,,, good ,that's the way to go because not to many people have a welder machine ,,,,or if have one can't use it ,,,like my self ,,i have one but i live on 3 floor ,,,, i can not use a welder machine on my living room

    @lesstime1678@lesstime16782 жыл бұрын
    • Thats true. Also welding inputs a lot of heat into the machine which may lead to bad geometry. But the question is - can you use an angle grinder in your living room? 🤔🤔

  • You really should learn to weld, if that hinge holds together its a true miracle.

    @JJ79_@JJ79_ Жыл бұрын
    • XD. I welded it later a little more but those had to be spot welds because penetrating through the well of the pipe would result in no possibility to assemble this together :) Don't worry, there past about a year and it is works fine. Thanks for watching!

  • Great build, out of interest did you reduce the belt wander during grinding by adjusting the gas piston?

    @jasoncampbell6222@jasoncampbell6222 Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks! I reduced it by adjustin the screw of the barrel-shaped roller (by adjusting the hinge). Finding the sweet spot makes the belt stay in place until pushed really hard.
