In 2009 we got our very first fully fledged HD version of Tekken on the 7th gen consoles. Would it keep the high standards set by previous games? or would it struggle to find its feet in a new online focused world?

the fact that Tekken 6 came out on Xbox 360 back then was a huge announcement. The names Tekken and PlayStation were almost synonymous, at one point
Yeah I remember seeing it in a magazine as a kid thinking it was typo 😂
Same for Ace Combat 6.
I feel like every Tekken had it's distinct aesthetic and vibe, but Tekken 6 oddly just felt like another entry in the series that didn't do much.

Tell me bout it. I really didn't enjoy Tekken 6 much. But Tag 2 felt even worse
Exactly. The game just felt like T5 but with shinier graphics and longer juggle combos. Mostly the same roster as T5 outside of the newcomers - and while I don't like character cuts in general, I feel they could have at least changed up the character's appearance in some way. 99% of the cast looked exactly the same as they did in T5 and 99% of the same animations and voice samples. Then there's the fact that outside of the Jin, the story and motivations for each character were just copy-pasted from T5, but with even less effort put into the writing. Even the FMV ending sequences felt lazier and even looked graphically inferior to the ones in T5. Stages were less in number than T5DR and were still the same old simple square or octagonal shaped arenas. I was hoping they might have gone back and looked at T4's more interactive and unique stage layouts and try to do them right this time, but no, it's just the same boring stuff as T5, but now with 'floor breaks' which looked ridiculous and only served as yet another juggle extender.
I miss characters like baek and bruce
Yeah the one thing this era of Tekken games had was a stacked roster those two were two of my favourites all the way back in Tekken 2

I actually really love Tekken 6. It was really fun scenario campaign offline and online, plus i still play this game to this day on ps3
Yeah I still had a lot of fun going back and playing it I don't think they're any bad games in the series but this one felt like it was missing something
@@DANNYBYT23 yeah it really is. I think Tekken 4 is the most underrated Tekken game of the franchise, but is still decently good

12:14 A small correction. You forgot about Raven, who was introduced in Tekken 5. Lilly, Dragunov and a new Armor King was added in Tekken 5 DR. Great retrospective, btw! 👌

Damn it!! I knew someone would realise 😂😂 honeslty the BGM for that stage was in my head the whole time but when it came time to edit the video I just couldn't find the footage so the tomato festival stage took its place😅

The console port of this game had a ton of problems from a technical standpoint like load times and running at native 540p lol. But man competitively this game was the bomb. All the majors, MLG, tekken crash, what a time if you loved watching comp tekken. This was by far the most successful Tekken in Korea and the most popular arcade game in Japan during its reign as well. This game was where Tekken legends like holemen, rain, and knee made their names...
Yeah I remember the load times being crazy 😂 and yeah the one thing I can't knock about Tekken 6 is its gameplay
For me Tekken Tag 2 is the best followed by Tekken 6. The online was amazing back in the day. It had the story mode, RPG and tons of unlockable. I would have so many friends that would stop down on Wednesday and we would battle it out all night. I've been a fan since Tekken 1 in the arcade.
Yeah they really put alot of effort into the online which is something you definitely can't take away from these games
@@DANNYBYT23 Yeah, I would say Tekken is the best online fighter. Number 2 for me would be Killer Instinct.

Yeah I looked it up to get on my ps4 and for some reason I managed to download it for free!! didn't pay for it and no longer have a ps plus subscription so I have no idea what I did 😂

Yeah I can definitely see the change of approach to gameplay in the games after this
@@DANNYBYT23 yeah it's a bit sad that ofc it's still at the core tekken but the soul of the game has been changed.
They should've called it Tekken Sucks instead of Tekken 6. Tekken Tag Tournament 1 is still my favorite even after Tekken 8.

Yeah it was like they tried to just upscale the Tekken 5 models and it's not the best
Personally, I think 6 is better 5. I can't even remember 5 that well!
Yeah I don't think it's a bad game at all and considering it had a bigger roster then 5 in some ways did things better. just felt like there was something missing in this one
Tekken 6 was a low for me in the series because of 2 main things. 1. Introduction of air juggling in combat. Worst shit ever! 2. Introduction of Azazel! Fucking worst boss ever! Everything else was good to mediocre! Id play TTT2 a million times over 6.
