    • That would make a great film. Skunk Works develops some kind of technology that manipulates gravity. They use it to cheat in sports. @1:30 kzhead.info/sun/mrF6fcx_rJqOd68/bejne.html Come to think of it that would fuel too many conspiracy theories. None of the media companies would make a film like that.

    • Medalling? Try _Gold_ Medalling. Palacios is the only one with a shot of beating her in the snatch (with a _perfect_ day on her part, and likely also requiring Reeves to miss). And no one who will be in the field is in the same league as Reeves in the clean-and-jerk. I'm just praying for good health for her between now and Paris. Nothing else will stop her.

    • She had the world record snatch in her today, and another 5kg+ in the clean-and-jerk. And she'll likely be better in Paris. Her _trajectory_ would have been enough for the Chinese to not send Liao Guifang, even _if_ she'd made her lifts to win today. Now? There is no version of reality in which the Chinese will send Liao. Also, this qualification process, and the corresponding athlete-pool restrictions are an absolute travesty. This World Cup will end up being _TEN_ times the competition that the Olympics will be, and that's just wrong.

      @alistairwillock7266@alistairwillock7266Ай бұрын
    • Have to agree - this World Cup is, for weightlifting, the competition the Olympics should have been. That Liao won't get to go to Paris, for one example among many, is a crying shame. With only 3 athletes China certainly won't send her now, which robs us all of the rematch. I like the top 10 qualifiers process. I do not like the 3 athlete cap, or the one per country cap. Only one of Rahmat and Rizki? Why ruin this for all of us?!? Olivia certainly looked like she had a 121/152 in there today. That said, her caution and execution kept all the pressure on her opponents. (I doubt she'll be opening at 112 again for a while though 😂)

  • While I love this result for Olivia, it's almost a shame that this happened here, in front of a relatively small audience of weightlifting fans. While this does make her a strong favourite for gold at the Olympics, and an Olympic gold would be amazing regardless, imagine the hype if this sort of battle had happened on the Olympic stage.

    @ironchin17@ironchin17Ай бұрын

    • @@jeffw1267Are you on crack? She just crushed the strongest field of the quad here, and North Korea and China won't even be in the Olympics now. Who, exactly, is going to beat her at the Olympics? Seb and Max both said during the session that Reeves is likely to win both the snatch and C&J in Paris _on her opening lifts!!!_ Leaving Seb aside, do you think you know weightlifting better than _Max?!?_ I think Palacios can make Reeves need to make a second snatch for the win in Paris... Other than that, no one in the field will be able to trouble her even that much.

      @alistairwillock7266@alistairwillock7266Ай бұрын
    • @jeffw1267 North Korea are ineligible for Olympic qualification. China have the number one ranked lifter in all five Olympic categories, but they can only send three women, and the other four Chinese women are more dominant in their respective categories, so China will almost certainly not send Liao Guifang. Olivia totalled 268 here, the next biggest total from 2024 is 246. Of the remaining eligible lifters only Angie Palacios and Loredana Toma have surpassed 250 this cycle, Toma did it with 256 in 2022 and has been steadily downhill ever since. Angie is Olivia's biggest threat, she did 261 a year ago and has mostly been around 245-250 since then, possibly saving energy. Regardless, Olivia has consistently been on an upward trend. Anything can happen, but my money is firmly on the American.
