Patriot Sandwich Co. gives contenders 45 minutes to finish two of their humongous deli sandwiches, 10oz of potato salad, two cookies, a bag of crisps and a granola bar. Do so successfully and not only is the meal FREE, not only do you get a t-shirt, but you also get a pretty nifty winner's coin!

Beard is such a nice guy even though he's doing a food challenge he still talks to his subscribers he doesn't ignore people he's a good man.
The coin thing is a tradition in the US military. Their called "Challenge coins" Usually handed out from top ranking Officers for expressing gratitude or completing a mission. In your case completing this challenge . That's a nice touch by the restaurant!

Another part of the tradition is that while drinking, you can be "challenged" to produce your coin. If you don't have it on your person, you owe a round of drinks.
Also used in military bars, you can challenge someone to buying a round and who ever has the highest ranking coin wins! One of the coolest trophies I’ve seen you receive so far
And it was presented in the appropriate fashion as well.. with a congratulatory handshake. If myself I would then salute said officer. Congrats!

As a native of Dallas, I can say that Dallas is most well known for being one of the restaurant capitals of the world. At some point in the past 10-15 years, Dallas had one of the highest rates of restaurants per capita. All sorts of great food all over the place. We're also known for sports & entertainment, although most of the local sports teams are outside Dallas proper. The Cowboys & Rangers are in Arlington, halfway between Dallas & Fort Worth (the two major cities constituting the "DFW" area).
I hope the fan in the back there sees this comment. I love how he was so sweet and trying not to distract beard too much but still wanted to have a conversation, it was too cute! My guy you look so happy and I hope you had a blast watching that! You rock, Beard! You’re so nice to your fans ❤

Its not just Americans that refer to the UK as being "Across the pond." It works both ways. In regards to the hue of American potato salad, it's because we love eggs and mustard. Basically any mayonnaise-based "salad" dish is very often turned towards the flavor of deviled eggs. As for the bits of parsley/chives in everything, that's just how we get our greens for a balanced diet ;)

Challenge coins are awesome, can have a lot of dimension too, layered making incredible artwork. We very very often make mustard potato salad, that's probably why you notice it has a different color. Amish potato salad has it often too.

The reason they gave him what’s called “a challenge coin” is because it is a military-related restaurant. When I was in the army, you can get various coins throughout your career, usually for going above and beyond other people. They are not really medals, but tokens of appreciation for what you did/are doing.

Great win! Love the videos. The potato salad in America is made with mustard a lot of times - this gives it the yellowish tint
American potato salad usually contains a decent amount of mustard, and sometimes has hard boiled egg yolks as well. Between all the mayo and mustard it tends to turn the potato salad a more yellowish green color.

@@DaltonKY08 From my own personal experiences in traveling and eating, that's completely subjective. The addition of either chopped pickles, relish, or pickle juice. For example in most Southern states I ate potato salad in there were always chunks of pickles. But places like New York, Pennsylvania, and Jersey, I never saw pickles or relish in potato salad at delis. Like my mom makes potato salad, and it's a recipe she got from her mother. No pickles. Fiance has a recipe she got from her grandmother. Pickle, specifically dill, and a small splash of the pickle juice. Both of these two find each others potato salad an abomination against god.

Getting a challenge coin like that is awesome. If you ever do get a commendation from a feller with a ton of fruit salad, they will typically give you a badass coin specific to them in the military. My dad is a Vietnam Navy vet and did some awesome stuff while in the service. He's very proud of his treasures.

so im not sure if anyone explained it to you but there are different kinds of potato salads and here in the south we typically add an extra amount of mustard and pickles which could be giving it the colors you're unfamiliar with. It's my favorite way to have potato salad bc the vinegar balances the creaminess. :)

The hue of the potato salad is because it's made with mustard which is common in most Texan establishments, if it's white or colorless that means it's made with mayonnaise.

Another great video my man. Two quick points, they all wore shoulder pads because it was the 80s and shoulder pads ruled all and it’s yellow because of the mustard. You probably knew both of these, but I just love the way you seem to intertwine US things with British things.

Just a hint on the potato salad being yellow or green, most of my family uses either a type of mustard or some relish (Or both :D). That will give you such results
Yellow definitely comes from the mustard. I like to add dill to mine and a little hot sauce!
Also not sure, but I think traditional potato salad doesn't have eggs, however most american made potato salad does have eggs.

Oi Beardy, American potato salad varies a bit from region to region (Penn Dutch is it's own thing), but it is usually that color from boiled egg yolks, pickle relish and a bit yellow mustard. If you ever come by Baltimore hit me up, I'll take you out drinking and a regular sized meal. Cheers

Technically this is in Denton Texas, which is a small town about 45 minutes north of Dallas! During the massive freeze in 2020 these guys were open and still serving food. It was great to actually enjoy a hot meal and share words of encouragement during that time.
Denton is Northwest of Dallas, not south of Dallas. And yes, Patriot is in Denton, not Dallas.
Yes! This Texan was in N Montana then and when there are blizzards or tourists stuck, the cafes and restaurants all jump in and do the same! It’s a marvelous thing! This shop looks like it could have been in Montana too - a BEAUTIFUL military honoring business!
