I’m so grateful for these recordings. I was told by my mother that these amazing women are my cousin.
You are part of a wonderful family!
You have big boots to fill! Hope you do they were wonderful 😊 caring ladies Rest in Peace
You have 2 fine cousins. So beautiful and hearts so full of love. I hope you are well. God Bless you!!!

What a blessing and legacy to have such great women in your family.
❤❤❤❤❤❤... I cry every time I see the movie. My Mom just turned 100 years old. I'm so blessed that she's still healthy and happy.
I hope your mother and you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Christmas and a healthy and Happy 2024!!! XO ❤❤
@@AMERASIAN12 , Thank You so much. But, she doesn't really eat meat anymore. She'll just have a couple of bites. I will not post a video of my Mom on KZhead. Because she doesn't like it. But, she doesn't mind me recording her voice and telling people her age Her birthday was October 31st 1923. 🙏🏼
🙏May God continue to Bless your entire Family and Heaven smiles upon you all
@@velvetjackson8233 , Thank You 🙏🏼 Amen. May he bless your family as well 🙏🏼
💘
I went to go see the Broadway Play and their movie “Having Our Say”. I sat down and visited with the two DelanySisters, they were wonderful. My Great Grandmother lived to be 112 (1859-1971). My Grandfather lived to be 110:(1877-1987) My Grandmother lived to be 103 (1905-2008). My parents are entering their 90’s. I grew up with respecting and enjoying the company of my elders. Even volunteered in a retirement home in college. I loved hearing their stories. People have no idea what an invaluable education you can obtain by sitting down with your elders. Do not toss aside an opportunity to hear about your history from people that were there, before that opportunity is gone.
My grandmother passed away in November, just weeks shy of her 105th birthday.
@@lynx70123 - Wow, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m certain that the memory of your grandmother will continue to live on for many years to come. I still quote mine, so wise. May your grandmother R.I.P. & you have a long life 👈
@@ask4theupgrade359 Thank you! And back-atcha!
Absolutely well said!!
God bless your family! Take care of your body and embrace your family's good health and longevity!
I saw the movie and read both books in 2003. These women changed my thinking and my life.
Mine too, when I saw the movie one late night during black history month, I said YES ladies, I've been eating garlic every since 😄,everything about them was inspiring.
Can you tell me name of the movie?
@@tik_tak7481 Having Our Say
They didn't need to get married because they had each other. Beautiful souls. R.I.P beautiful angels.
Men would have killed them fast!
They had the advantages of marriage (companionship, two incomes) without the disadvantages (repeated childbirth, being told what to do).
@@FilmerOfBobcats being told what to do? Women are single and happy.
@dumarnimohiilnaag4316 Yes, even being happily married to a sweet, kind man, it's annoying to have to keep mouth shut out of love. And I've never been healthy after getting married. It was hard on the "female parts." 53 years later, I still fragile "down there."
❤️❤️❤️❤️I don't even have words to express how high of esteem I hold these beautiful elders. No words. ❤️
I didn't just read "Having Our Say," I internalized it. God bless these magnificent sisters! I cherish them in my heart.
These sisters are so sweet! I wish the world was filled with more like them. ❤
I miss these two. I read "Having Our Say" as soon as it came out. Beautiful souls.
Outstanding black women 💜
This book changed my life as a kid and has influenced my work today as a producer. I did my first monologue as a theater kid based on Dr. Bessie’s opening chapter: “People learned not to mess with me from day one.” Me and my classmate did a two woman play based their dialogue and had our classmates laughing. I also had the gift of seeing it on Broadway as a kid. It changed the way I view the concept of “old people” forever and for the better, I believe. Thank you for your work Ms. Hill Hearth!
Our neighbors. Rest In Power.
I was blessed to get a front row Complimentary Broadway ticket to see them many years ago. They were Extremely Smart, I continued "Clapping with Joy" May God bless their family.
I cant help but smile and get teary eyed, whenever I see them. Thank you.
Awwwww they are / were ADORABLE DARLINGS ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
So funny♥️😃😃😃😃😃
Watched again. Tears and smiles, again.
Tears and love just watching these beautiful women. I love you lord❤
Their book was given to me in the 90's awesome.i think I should read it again...2020
I read their book in college. I still have it today. Ms. Betsy was a spitfire honey !!😊
Can you imagine having an hour or two with them, lunch and talking? It would not be enough time with them. Bless their hearts.
Wow now I want to learn more about these wonderful ladies 💕
One of my favorite parts of their story is how they did NOT want a telephone-even if someone was paid to be in their home to answer it. I remember chuckling, at the time, about that statement Well, I too, am now at the age where I don’t want another electronic gizmo of any kind; I’ve had ENOUGH, even if I had unlimited IT support the answer is still NO! God bless, you Two, for leading the charge: No thank you! Don’t need it! Don’t want it! 😂❤️
Ever notice that everyone wants you to have a smart phone? I refuse to receive texts on my Jitterbug flip phone! My MDs have been told to contact me via the home phone, period. "Don't call me, I'll call you. Maybe. Maybe next year...."
Having our Say is one of my more treasured books, smart and charming ladies.
They were inspiring to know.
Bessie @2:57 “they liked ta dropped dead….maybe it’d been better if they had dropped dead” 😭😂 she reminds me so much of all my aunties that have gone to glory. ❤️
Woah... I had no idea that they were doing yoga at that age.
I saw the Broadway Play based on their life story and read their books Having Our Say and On My Own at 107. All 3 were very good!
Love this. Makes me want to reread the books. My aunt Mary Alice played Bessie on Broadway☺️
I read their book and saw the play. Remarkable women.
"If it helps just one person,it's worth doing".Mama Delany sisters. Just love them,God rest their souls in eternal peace, they blessed mine.
Just read their book again after many years: such National Treasures are the Delany Sisters and their family
Just stumbled up on the movie of these two sisters THE DELANY SISTERS!!! It was awesome!!! I am so PROUD of their story and life!!!! As they say colored and educated!! May they R.I.P. together forever! ❤
They're truly amazing
I don't know why I just heard about the Delany Sisters but I am so glad I did. I Am a Southerner's and I want have it any other way! 2023. Thank You Delany Family!
I know it used to be an anomaly to have 100 year old people walking around in their right mind. But, today it's very common. Let's cherish and celebrate those that have reached an advanced age with grace and dignity!
💐💐RIP Sarah Louise "Sadie" Delany (September 19, 1889 - January 25, 1999)(aged 109), and Annie Elizabeth "Bessie" Delany (3 September 1891 - 25 September 1995) (aged 104) you will truly be missed and my prayers go out to you both and your family. 💐💐
I would have loved to have met them. I'm reading their Book of Everyday Wisdom right now.

@@PHlophe Unfortunately, we are not able to post our production on KZhead. We pay for the rights from the author. Thanks for your interest.
Amazing ladies, truly inspired by their wisdom and love of life. Great play as well, adapted my none other than Emily Mann.
Love the Delany Sisters ❤❤❤
Beautiful. Very wise and intellectual ladies. Thanks for the post. It is important to know that a person could live a good life if they take it one day at a time. Success comes with how an individual chose to accept it being good or bad.
Beautiful ❤
It's Raleigh North Carolina. But beautiful documentary. I live about 20 minutes from Raleigh. I read the book and saw the movie, awsome family from here in North Carolina.
I just finished watching the movie and I'm upset that I've never seen it until now. These women were amazing!
Yes, they truly were amazing. If you haven't had a chance, please read the book -- it's even better than the movie. 📚
Thank you their story should be told for history month in February. I will order their book May they rest in peace!😎

I watch their story, one late night during black history month, it came on like 2am in the morning, anyway I was so amazed at them Dianhann Carroll and Ruby Dee, played the sisters....I said my I'm going to eat a piece of garlic a day and exercise to..... I have never seen it since, so here I am looking for it again. Beautiful ladies.
That’s so beautiful 🎉
AMAZING
Loved their book. I am impressed with these ladies and their families.
Ive read their book. Very intersting read
I remember my mother giving me their book when I was a teenager and I was just so intrigued by these women. They came from an era so long ago and they were different as night and day. But how beautiful it was for them to have each other for over a hundred years.
These two wonderful 💎💎💎💎 is a repository of living knowledge. A true historical treasure. Than you beautiful sisters for there historical lesson. True salt of the earth.
I so enjoyed watching the movie about their lives and keep saying I need to get the book, which I will order today. These two ladies had a long and decent life, even though they went through some hard times. They will never be forgotten.
Read their story and enjoyed it! Phenomenal women!❤
I remember reading their book in the 90s, the Delaney Sisters.
I loved this book!
Wonderful to see.
I never read the book, but I saw the movie and I fell in love with them. I recently took my daughter on a tour of HBCUs and had no idea that the Delaney building at St Augustine’s was named for their family. I really would love for my daughter to go there. We went to Shaw also.
I went on a black college tour also. St augs was a lovely school. I saw Shaw also. I wanted to go to spelman. Couldn’t afford it so I just went to a state school.
I actually St Aug and when I saw the movie so many memories flooded. The ladies that stayed in there when it was a dorm were called Delaney Delights.
Such a poignant story. I loved following and watching these two for years.
What a beautiful story! ❤❤❤❤
