I think the thing this episode forgets is that the government has a pre-existing evacuation system in place, that gets used the instant that a relevant danger is detected. It might seem unrealistic to assume that a large number of people could be moved in an instant... but one, it's an anime... and two, there are scenes where an entire city is evacuated in minutes after a threat is detected.
Exactly! Beefcake fell on an evacuated city.
And don't get me wrong, love the video, entertaining! I just think that the premise is wrong. Like, calculating the meteor impact, the anime itself both shows and says what the result of the punch against it was. No one dead and a city fairly well destroyed, though not on the level this episode says. So the takeaway is that the anime world has different physics than the real world. Thus the premise of this episode changes to... "What if Saitama existed in the real world?" or something like that.

I always thought it was weird how they never took him seriously, considering that if he turned to villainy, he would be their highest tier of threat.
I mean, they also didn’t pay much attention to Garou, the overly-violent strongest disciple of S-Class Rank 3 Silverfang, until he started causing them issues; so nothing new here 🤣

Beefcake would have destroyed much more if not for Saitama, he killed a lot of people but saved thousands in the process
Matpat is basically complaining that Saitama saved the planet 2 times when he stopped the meteor that was close to the one that killed the dinosaurs resulting in 0 deaths and stopping an alien evasion that was planning to destroy the planet.
Unless Tatsumaki stepped in and floated him off and compacted him just as she did to another giant monster.
Saitama being so powerful that he ends all life on Earth as a side effect is pretty on brand for the character tbh

Matt, I think you forgot one thing here. By the time Beefcake got far enough into the city that Saitama finally did his punch, pretty much the whole area was emptied of people. Unless Beefcake fell on top of the evac center they all went to, he basically fell on a bunch of buildings with no one inside them (Except for any idiots who stayed inside)
And the one building the evacuation buildings is metal knight which has a really indestructible metal in his arsenal.
If anyone stayed inside after a confirmed monster attack, then its not even Saitama's or the monster's fault at that point
Not to mention, not like Beefie was tiptoeing around- he was flattening city blocks by the second. Dropping him, even with the collateral damage, probably added a minute to the damage BC would've done on his own. (Sure, he should've went for the "punch into the sun" option, but still caused less damage than ignoring)
Literally about to comment this. The hero's association can evacuate people really fast think about the episode with deep sea king, everyone was already inside a evac center, and you would think that something as big as "beef cake" would be slower then deep sea king.

It took 2000kg of propellant and several gravity assists to get a 50kg probe from Earth to the sun over several years to just get into an orbit swinging within a few gigameters of the sun. Beefcake obviously had more than 50kg of mass even before he became a towering giant leaving deep, 2.2km long footprints and Saitama's punch has to impart escape velocity + earth's orbital velocity instantaneously. Assuming Beefcake scaled up in mass proportionately and was the average bodybuilder mass of 74kg, that would be the equivalent of 296 Mt or nearly 6 Tsar Bomba's going off at the point of his fist.
Can i just say that when he hit the meteror and it broke up into pieces,the anime even says that no one was hurt except for peoples house bills.
Here's the thing, people evacuate before he kills the monsters, we know this because they've indirectly told us in the anime.
If this man reads the manga or webcomic, Matpat is going to make a 5 hour video on it.

For the Beefcake one, it’s likely that everybody evacuated as soon as they heard that Beefcake existed, so Saitama most likely killed nobody
did mat pat forget that they had a episode dedicated to this concept? one punch man destroys a meteor and the fragments deal devastating damage to the city and killed many people, with the ultimate resolution being that it was better than the asteroid hitting without being destroyed but with Saitama accepting the hate to give the people a scape goat for their trauma.
No casualties, btw. Just destroyed a good portion of the city.
The anime actually has an explanation on why the city is almost always a ghost town when monsters attack. 1, the government/hero association has a comprehensive/thorough evacuation plan that takes about minutes for a complete evacuation. 2, the have super durable evacuation site(houses? Dome?) With underground passages for faster movement. 3, the heroes also help(and they more likely than not have super human stats) lastly i think the one punch man universe has a more durable version of earth considering all the supernatural occurrences on the daily.

@@princerawat4297 You are assuming the moon is the same size as our earths moon. A larger moon tidal locked to a larger planet would take more force to move it. Matpat figured the size of the crater but not the size of the moon. The crater did not look like 10% of its overall size.
Boros and Beefcake would have definitely dealt much more damage if kept alive, so Saitama getting rid of them was necessary.

Saitama punching the meteor and beefcake actually helped, beefcake was only about 270 meters tall and if you look at that scene where beefcake punches the area he destroys is much bigger than he is.
You know, seeing the lunar devastation based on this, I kinda wanna see a theory from Assassination Classroom. The thing that nearly totally destroyed the entire moon did basically nothing in the anime, but I wonder if with some research we can figure out how immediately lethal that is

Genos in the show does state that Saitama 'Killed the Meteor's momentum,' implying that the force from Saitama's punch essentially not only fragmented the meteor, but put the entire mass of the meteor to a dead stop, only allowing it what looks to be ~1km of altitude to accelerate from, vastly decreasing the meteor's energy output.

Yeah, there's the evacuations, and the bunkers, as per all the announcements. Not to mention, that by his own admission, Saitama always arrives late. So plenty of time for them to reach safety.

Cities cannot be evacuated like that in any timely manner whatsoever. The roads would quickly be stop and go, thereby clogging any and all exist points for not just hours, but days. Monsters attack so fast that the only places that can reasonably be said to be 'evacuated' are the downtown areas. To say otherwise is to make up magically reasons why "no one died because of magical evacuation rules."
Now if only Matpat looked at the official height of Beefcake which is 270 meters tall. Much shorter than what he calculated

But even so, two, if Beefcake is like 13,000 meters tall, then Saitama must be closer to 50-100 meters as we can clearly see him on beefcake's shoulder. Saitama's Canon height is 1.75 meter so the thought that we could see that on 13k meter creature is like seeing a flea on a person's shoulder from 30 feet. But yeah Canon says he is 270 meters, so he is 270 meters and this theory is way off. Just like how his hazbin hotel theory was terrible
@@lauritsskovgard well in manga he was way shorter, and manga guide said he was 270 meters, which fitted him. But anime sure buffed him giving kilometers of height. I think he's still dozens if not hundreds of kilometers tall in anime. Anime guide and manga guide are a little different, for example anime guide stated Boros could destroy a star with his final atttack, and manga guide stated that Boros can only destroy the surface of Earth.

In the first episode they said they were evacuating, Saitama's stalling would give them much more time. Plus there's the factor that in that city are many villain, criminal or monster attacks, meaning they have special ways to evacuate large amounts of civilians. They also saw Beefcake so they probably categorized him as a highly dangerous individual, therefore evacuating many more then we would be led to believe.
Also why didn't he use the same calculation of city blocks he used for the footprint on where *he actually fell* Idk, but it just feels incorrect to not use the actual image of where he fell.

Well in the manga Saitama was able to punch so hard there was a void in space left, Jupiter was cleared of it's gas and even went so fast he broke time itself by throwing a punch and having it land before the punch was even thrown. Sidenote, he went that fast by literally farting in the first place.

Just to let you know, as a peer in reading the manga, Saitama did not break time by farting. 1. He farted due to the Sun's heat and used that momentum to catch up to Garou, since he can't fly 2. Saitama didn't break time through moving, he TIME TRAVELED using a technique Garou taught him then ended the true battle before it started

I actually love this theory, the only thing that bothers me is that people are complaining about him overestimating, but that’s what a theory is right? Not sure if the impact on the meteor from Saitama's punch would be the equivalent to that meteor exploding with the same energy of it falling from space.
They explained in the manga that most of the meteor disintegrated so only like a small area got caught and a few minor injuries
It might had been even higher than calculated. Though the actual devastation might be lower since he did go thru the object, meaning most of the energy released should have gone up with him. It's like two cars slamming head on, the heavier (or more powerful) would move the object in the same general direction as it.

In the manga and web series it’s said that the people in that world have it in place so that cities can be evacuated easily during events like this, and one of the S class heroes has an entire robot army that is able to rebuild all the damage

The cities are evacuated and they tell you that less than 5 minutes in to the first episode. Also, Saitama is well aware of the dangers of his capability. This is why he actually sub cautiously chooses to end his fights in 1 punch. Its our own fault that this concept is funny.

You should suggest what he could have done differently in that situation. Questions like: How else could he stop beefcake? What better way could he deal with the meteor? What other way could he get back from the moon? These kinds of questions could work in a lot more theories
Isn't Saitama need to more cruel against villains if he can punch that strong enough to push the guy whose hight about where people can see head from plane mean he can actually push or lift the guy to take away from city no he just punch in his face so he can show how strong he ya it's really true that he never think about his action what are the consequence of doing those things

I've been coming up with thoughts myself based off your past videos and my mind is giving myself chills
All the situations he just told are true and the damages are massive. But the casualties are probably pretty little since almost each city in the one punch man univers have a evacuation center made by the hero association able to withstand almost anything like a meateor or a falling giant. The hero association also evacuate citizens fast. The beefcake one might have alot of casualties but the meteor situation probably doesn't even have that many. The moon situation is the real problem though.

Nah I think it's better off he'd stay away from it. Not that I don't like the idea. It's mainly the fact that some of these shows requiring to read the comics/novels. I mean it's clearly like the same thing as reading comics/novels for marvel, but the lengthyness of the comics and novels that japanese authors make are more tedious. Again not that I hate the idea. It's the amount of research and time management he would need. Yes I know FNAF novels are also long but you know what I mean.
I'd like to see him do the calculations for the recent events in the manga and what theories he could craft based on that arc and fight

I have a theory on why Saitama is so strong , Maybe it's because he is actually an unintentional reality bender and he is so strong because he thought he did a lot of training , none of his feats have a serious consequence, because he thinks it's okay

btw there was a line in the anime about the meteor (cant remember who said it but) "Atleast No one died" kinda unbelievable but this one line decapitates the meteor incident
They explained the meteor pretty well in the show, the damage it would have cause would have wiped the entire city of the map and everyone with it, his shattering cause the meteors smaller fragments to impact with less velocity and volume causeing a wide net but not entirely wiping everyone out.

I forgot to comment yesterday but I remember one thing I wanted to mention was that you can't accurately gauge the size of that moon crater that way for the same reason that Africa seems to take up an entire hemisphere from low orbit. Also with the way he impacts the meteor, he would have significantly decreased its momentum, like shooting a fastball with a high powered rifle

The evacuation plans in the show somehow empty a city in minutes so the casualties are pretty much closer to thousands from him killing beefcake As for the meteor part , Saitama likely also created a massive pressure wave with his punch which aside from vaporizing a good portion of the meteor also massively decelerated all the chunks , so it may be like 2 million chunks falling but they probably have vastly slowed down The moon is tidally locked to the planet in its current state , if saitama did enough to really change much then the moon should seem to start rotating so either his damage was significantly less or that moon isn’t exactly like ours

@@_Emrakull this is true , but I was thinking more like when he punched the ocean king he literally stopped the rain for a bit from the pressure wave pushing the rain back up , I think the mass lost to burn up would be much smaller then a small meteor though because only it’s external surface is heating up (and only the forward portion at that) So I think it was safe to safe this was negligible almost

About the meteor...in air explosion. 1. Wasn't really an explosion. Was more like the meteor broke up in the atmosphere. 2. The force of the impact (when Siatama punched the thing) was going away from the Earth. Any explosion would have been directed upward..

I don't think the calculations for deorbiting the moon are accurate. A force applied to deorbit the moon would be calculated as a retrograde force. Since he was jumping directly from the moon back towards the Earth he would have been applying a normal force. Normal forces tend to have a far lesser affect on the height of the orbit (apoapsis and periapsis) and tend to rotate orbital periods. Since the force is incredibly missive I don't doubt it would create a more elliptical orbit, but I'm not sure how elliptical. Off to kerbal space program I go. :)
Keep in mind that not all of the downward force was in that initial explosion, just enough to destroy the structural integrity of the meteor, at which point the smaller chunks flew out with the remaining energy, with their greater total surface area meaning more bleed off to atmospheric resistance before they hit the ground. Similarly, Beefcake likely would have done more damage than his fall did if left to his own devices. A couple dozen steps would still be more than the surface area of his body.
5:40 while that tends to be a reliable number for american metropolitan areas, japanese cities tend to go by smaller blocks. Tokyo averages around 100-200 m, making him somewhere between 4-6 km tall, a bit shorter than the everest

Not to mention Saitama's area of activity is usually empty due to past monster activity throughout his journey to getting stronger, the few people that lives in his city is him and his disciple. This is mentioned earlier on when the government talked about how nobody lives in Z-city, save for the 4 heroes in here and possibly a small number of civilians that would immediately evacuate.

well, if the meteor had imploded on the ground It's shockwave would probably be larger than a spread out airburst. I think it would be similar like laying on a bed of spikes, meanwhile one spike. (One spike will pierce through you, while the bed of spikes would lay out the forceish and you'll probably be fine). Idk just my thought, I mean the world didn't end from the rocks scattering, but since the meteor is basically a dinosaur one if it landed it would have done something similar to world extinction probably.
You gotta give Saitama some credit though. Beefcake would have killed a lot more people without Saitama doing anything, and him doing that probably lead to less people dying. Sure, it could have been avoided, but it was better than him doing nothing. For the meteor, in the anime it literally explains that no one died, although there was a lot of damage to buildings. I am pretty sure we can all agree that, sure, bigger area was damaged, but no one died, which is a lot better than everyone dying with less area of damage. Again, if he had done nothing, a lot of people would have died. In this case, it is not negligence, he literally saved everyone. And in the last case of him jumping from the moon, again, him doing that was neccesary. He could not have gone back to Earth any other way. If he hadn't gone back and changed the Earth's tides, or just not have fought him, the whole world would be dead. In the anime, it is described as a God level threat, and we see S-tier struggling with Dragon threat levels. They wouldn't be able to beat a god-level threat, and so the Earth would be gone had Saitama not jumped from the moons. Again, tidal waves and not having a moon is still bearable, while not having a living planet with humans, yeah I think that is a bit worse. Not only this, we basically see no change in human life at all. Also, usually all of the cities are evacuated, so he actually does minimal human damage. However, I do not want to fully discredit MatPat here. This would be what happened if it was in real life, but since it is in an anime, and the fate of the earth is decided by the producers, I do not think they would add tidal disasters because Saitama jumped from the moon. TL;DR: Best Case: He basically saved everyone. Worst case: Sure he did some reckless things but still saved more or killed less people by doing it.
About the moon jump, I really thought the problem would be the force of Saitama's landing at 10% of lightspeed on earth. Interesting theory twist !

You totally forgot the worst part about the jumping back from the moon, which is that once Saitama is on the move with his great kinetig energy you calculated he has to stop on earth too. Delivering a powerful explosion of the same dimension. Also pushing an orbiting object tangential to its orbit is the efficient way to increase the orbits radius, which means just because saitama pushed the moon a little away doesn’t make it fast enough for the bigger orbit, resulting most likely in an ellipse which would propagate the tides.
That meteor destroying most of the city is kinda Saitama’s fault still if you think about it. If Saitama just did a slightly more serious punch to that meteor, he could’ve punched it hard enough to where the entire thing would’ve been disintegrated without any debris left to destroy the city.
I think punching it harder would have made more shards leading to a wider spread of damage tho

@Just Some Guy without a Mustache yes in that chapter he was strong enough but not in the earlier chapters. Garou actually kinda explained it that (with the limiter graph) no matter how much he gets stronger, Saitama gets exponentially stronger than him. Meaning that he always scales higher than whoever opponent he face. Obviously, Garou is the strongest opponent that he has fought so far. If they cannot take Saitama down in an instant (which is probably impossible), he will just adapt and get even stronger.
I think MatPat forgor to check his calculations against the energy required to propel Saitama from the moon to Earth nearly instantaneously, didn't take into account the depth of the crater Saitama created, and highballed all his variables to heck. Also, despite using a picture in which the moon is clearly still in orbit, he still claims the moon is de-orbited.

I didn't buy the meteor's distribution of damage argument as well as the estimation of the giant's size 3. a more accurate estimation of the cities' population density would be anaverage of japanese cities. many cities are as huge as shown in the animation 4. also the evacuation of the city was not taken into account (as Raktus commented)
