  • I believe you're literally the only person on KZhead explaining this in such detail! My exact problem is the stupid small seal because it's filling the motor with fluid. Both my motors are shattered inside around the 12 torx gear that spins the caliper side and I just replaced them with TRW motors exactly one year ago. I am not sure if the fluid is causing the shattering but I can't find a rebuild kit that includes that seal. I do have the auto-hold function ON every time the car stops because I love the function. 2009 VW CC vr6 4motion

  • I have to question Plantary gear sets automatically reverse. I would think they would just reverse polarity

    @michaelpinkston4628@michaelpinkston46282 жыл бұрын
    • I agree, surely if it reversed when the piston encountered resistance ( pad hitting the disc/rotor ) the actuator would run back, releasing the parking brake. In fact it would never stop running. What tells it to stop? I imagine it's more like an electric window motor that stops when its closed/opened the window because it measures the drop in current draw. I've seen guys connecting 12v to the terminals of the motor to wind it back and they have to make sure it's the correct polarity otherwise the piston is pushed out. Still a great video to see inside one of these epb calipers.

  • excellent presentation, thanks a lot, so if you don't release first the electronic park brake caliper and go straight the depressing piston you will ruin the seals. I saw in some video, you can release pressure from electronic park brake by using 12 volts battery applied to caliper side of the electrical terminal after first removing the electrical connection from electrical harness and then proceed as usual mechanical way of doing brake pads replacement.

    • Vehicles are being engineered more toward engineer type people and making dealers money planned obsolescence, lack of repairability by the normal user. Manufacturers are looking to phase out the backyard mechanics so normal people bring it in to a dealer. For those in technical fields IT and Engineering this is no issue.

  • Great video. I was looking for an answer to see if the actual piston needs to be spun back in to the caliper while compressing. Almost every how-to video I've seen on a MK7 Golf does it this way. Based on this video, there's nothing that spins the actual piston, meaning it just needs to be pressed back in like any other models. Someone chime in?

  • I have a toyota camry le 2012 and EVERYTHING on my car in up to date and in order except, lately when I reverse and put on the brakes, it makes a moaning noise. I've gone to three different toyota dealerships and no one can hear it make the noise when I need to duplicate it. It only happens when I back out and ready to go everyday. If I'm parked anywhere, anytime of day. It makes me nervous because theyve all checked my brakes and have three diagnostic tests. Can you help or give any advice or ideas to what it could be? Thanks

  • Good video, but the words(and the dark bakground) are blocking what you're showing!!! I just repaired parking brakes on a vw passat recently and you can actually drive the motor forward or backwards just by changing the polarities of the current from a small 12v dc battery. Just make sure you have a fuse in the circuit to protect the motors from damage. Check the fuse box inside your car to see how much amperage the fuse must have. Mine was 5 amps fuse.

  • first off that is not how a planetary gear set works it does not self retract if it did it would just keep going in and out. the module reverses polarity on the dc motor that runs it. the torrington bearing or thrust bearing gets lubricated by the brake fluid its submerged in thats why it has no grease.you shouldnt be explaining things you dont know anything about to people these are a very simple and reliable parking brake system way less failure and expense to cable type ebrakes.

      @zchen1994@zchen19946 ай бұрын
    • @@zchen1994 - not quite the same comparison. Most people - vast majority - don’t use emergency brake - most everyone uses power windows. Plus you typically don’t use your power windows every day. Imagine your power windows going down when you start the car and going up when you turn off the car. Every day in and out. I don’t use my parking brake. I don’t want it to automatically turn on and off every time I park the car. That’s just additional wear and tear on some thing and I have no desire to replace or to get repaired for some exorbitant amount.

  • Why, oh why, did ANYONE think replacing a faultless device such as a Hand operated safety device, with a Terminator operated electric device, was a good idea?!?!? It's because electric handbrakes cost more money and no-one can fix them. So you have to go back to the manufacturer and pay millions of pounds/dollars to fix "their inbuilt" fault. Easy money car makers. SHAME ON YOU. There should be a movement against " profiteering by design to a captive market". We all NEED vehicles for work. That is how humans have evolved and expanded. Without vehicles we go back towards cave-man local tribes and exclusivity. So why is the cost of maintenance of vehicles not tightly controlled by Government.???

  • How stupid. Of a design. Why not just put a line lock on a brake line. That is how I park my 53 Chevy 5 window truck. Mine is a manual one. You put your foot on the brake and push it done. then you push in on a mounted button and let off of the brake. It locks the the line going to either the front or back or both if using 2. When you want to release the brake just push the pedal again just a little harder than when yo set and it releases. They work for ever and use zero electronics. Some times simpler is better.
