  • I am so glad to see a video talking to a true farmer over a production farmer. I agree it is not the greatest way for mass production but it really is a best meat to taste ratio. Having raised and sold cattle this really does bring a good view to the table for those that have never done so. Keep up the awesome videos and keep smoking them meats!

    • @entistBBQYea I just started the video but I already know this meat is better than most of what's on the market in the US, because I ordered from them for the 4th of July last year and it was FANTASTIC. I will be ordering again for the next 4th if nothing else, since I have to ship to California and it's not the cheapest. I wish I lived closer, so I could order from them more often.

Theres a big difference for taste, quality of meat, and health reasons for pasture raised pork and beef! I liked what he shared about the aging too! Very slick marketing term, 'wet aged'! Thanks for sharing Jeremy!

They only mention purchasing calves, which isn't uncommon but probably adds a quality control element that you don't get with live births. • Industry standard after slaughter for beef carcass is hanging or “dry aging” 10-14 days. Kind of misinformation that JP is implying commodity beef does less than that. You should really be going for at least 21-30 days before you notice a meaningful difference in flavor and texture. PR using the term dry-aged for 14 day carcass hanging is on par with the labeling issues JP points out for natural or wet aged IMO. They are doing some great stuff, just wanted to draw some attention to the marketing play.

  • This is great for folks that can afford the cost of these free range cattle. To feed the masses of people this would not be feasible for the large meat packers. Most Americans want to go to the store and buy an affordable product. To produce meat for the masses they are much more confined and the chances of illness is much higher and that's why they give the antibiotics that they do.

  • 15:00 - 16:00 This is actually happening everywhere. Now is a good time to undo some of the harm that was caused by corporate greed. Those that remember good food is still alive, and can push for food to be good again. If we wait too long, no one alive will know good food from bulk manufactured food. I grew up in a time where food was of high quality. Fruits had intense flavours. These days, all that I remember is mostly gone. My kids (both teens now) grew up with bland food that causes health issues. I can only pray that by the time they reach my age, the industry has changed so much that they can taste food as I tasted it in the 80's. The way it should be. Unfortunately, Porter Road is not available to me. But being in South Africa, I do have access to quality meat from time to time from small independent farmers. Downfall is I need to buy a whole cow. From time to time we do club together and do that. At least our meat is vastly cheaper than those countries in the north. Locally it is easy to spot the mass producers as we only have 2 main brands. Beef Cor, and Karan Beef.

  • I really like the idea of farm to home meats, naturally sustained. There are two barriers, im willing to pay more for a better cut of meat, the price sometimes is an issue. The other is sourcing, while I live near many many farm counties, i can only find the farms at the market on Saturdays, from 7am-2pm. Makes it a touch difficult to actually buy local. Not sure if its some weird regulation or something the govt has in place, or they just cannot compete with the massive meat ... farms, for lack of a better term, and get space on the local grocery store shelves. If it's the latter, i hope someone gets their head out of where you think it is, and gets more sustainable products readily available to a schmuck like me. Vegetables included, i don't care if a carrot, or onion looks a bit strange, does it cook and taste like either of those? Good. That's all i need it to do. Society seems to really hinge on perspective . Ugly Vegetables are just as good. Use them the same way as you would "pefect looking" ones. Anyhow. Rant over. I hope you all enjoy your day, take care.

  • I grew up on a corn/soybean farm in northeastern Ohio. My Grandfathers farm. We always had 2-3 cows wandering around 30 acers with 6-8 pigs, 6-8 goats and 20-30 chickens and rabbits. We had the chickens and rabbits separated because otherwise they'd be killed by the other animals. But past that they all lived together and looked happy about it. I have never had meat anywhere that could compare with what my granddad raised and slaughtered on his corn/soybean farm. OC I can't afford wagyu or the high end stuff but I've spent a few hundred dollars on a dinner for my wife and I that I was disappointed in because it just wasn't as good as my granddads was.

    @jabbott6748@jabbott67482 ай бұрын
    • Honestly it sounds like your granddad's beef was more similar to good feedlot finished beef today, though probably with less chemicals. The stuff that is regarded as higher end today is 100% grass fed, which is fine if you like it but typically is leaner meat with less fat. Our family's ranch pasture raised beef and then for the last step they went to feedlots to eat corn and soybeans to get a kick up in fat/marbling. I think some of that distance is being closed with genetics in the beef industry, but again that is going to come with a price. I have a friend that runs one of the big cutting edge ranches (the type that restaurants brag on the menu they use your beef), and they've sold cows for $500k+ as breeders. And that was 2018-ish. Again, makes for a great product, but your average rancher can't come close to spending that kind of money on a single heifer.

As someone who grew up in a trailer and then government housing, I have a deep resentment for elitism of any kind. So I get why you could be put off by their philosophy. I would imagine that they have never struggled to put food on the table and therefore assume anyone who doesn’t think like them is somehow morally a bad person. This is obviously not true, and people who think that way should take a long look in the mirror before casting moral judgments. Regardless, I didn’t intend for the video to shame anyone. I wanted to highlight what they do because they support local farmers and make good food. Buy what is right for you and don’t worry about people moralizing your budget decisions.
