Should footballers go to the gym and lift heavy or light weights?!
Use a weight that you can do 8-10 reps with until you've developed a good amount of muscle mass and definition. Then after approximately a year you can start using weight for which you can do 12-15 reps with as you don't want to get too bulky as a football player since it will slow you down.

After you have developed a strong base, you need to start to develop explosiveness from doing weightlifting with 1-5 reps+ do plyometrics so you can transfer over that to the field🏋🏻⚽

Zak during off season you should bulk up and build muscle and once season starts coming up start cutting a month or 2 before.
