  • When my husband and I were first married we were very poor. My parents bought us our first Christmas tree. We didn’t have anything to put on that tree, so I made all the ornaments from baking soda. I had the twelve days of Christmas cookie cutters, and a paint set It was the most beautiful Christmas tree!

    • My wife asked me if we was going to have a Charlie Brown tree again. When we moved into our new place COVID had just hit here and we also had absolutely NOTHING. I MEAN NOTHING... I stayed up all night just so she would have a tree and present to wake up to. I found the saddest little ugliest tree I could find in the woods and brought it home. 😊😊 A few years later, I had no clue how much she loved that day... Also happens to be the day we got together 🤗

    • That's really awesome. I wish I'd come across this craft when my nieces & nephews were still little. Oh well I'll just have to do my own. Maybe I could do a cats pawprint with kitties. They'd probably get annoyed but for a good keepsake that's ok once. I'll just bribe them with canned food.

  • I used to make little dolls from this back in the 70's , I would use watered down white glue after to seal them , then paint them with model paints. My mom has kept them all these years and then still look perfect .

  • We used this recipe to make Christmas ornaments when I was in elementary school, way back in the 70’s. We made them on Friday and left them on the windowsill to dry over the weekend then painted them on Monday, sealed them with a layer of white glue on Tuesday and took them home on Wednesday when we got out for Christmas. Such great memories!❤❤

  • I made this way back in the day, 70’s . My sister reminded me recently that I had made pendants and put beads and shells on them, then put them on necklace cords. She bought them to give to her junior high friends, and they loved them. Ahhh…Distant memories. I recently used this recipe with my granddaughter. It worked just as you demonstrated and what we didn’t use I stored in zip lock bag and stored in the refrigerator. It stayed there for months. This time we had fun make little figurines. Easy and cheap but works fantastically.

  • Nice! You can ALSO put the "soda clay" inside the "cornstarch silicone" mold onto a warming tray to dry it out. This method is handy when the "clay" is still too soft to effectively de-mold it without deforming it... and the thickness of the mold plays a part too... So many possibilities. The silicone-corn starch mold making is a game changer for creating interesting crafts.

I ask because I’ve been using polymer clay, and while I don’t mind baking it (in my craft-dedicated toaster oven) it shrinks unpredictably making cavities too small for what I need.

  • Oh this could be a game changer for me!! Quick question : is it a little bit flexible, like air-dry foam clay? If so, you just saved me tons of money, lol! In any case, thanks for sharing!

    @amaza888@amaza8886 ай бұрын
    • No after dry it isn’t flexible

      @OurUpcycledLife@OurUpcycledLife6 ай бұрын
    • You could make a small batch with pva glue in, that might give you a bit of flexibility. It could reduce how easy it is to paint, so a bit of experimenting would be needed. Maybe split a batch into several parts and add different amounts to each as it cools down. If you cook the pva I think it would go stringy.
