The Real Cost Of Owning An Embraer Phenom 300E Private Jet
0:00 - Intro
This is the Embraer Phenom 300E, a true gem of the light jet industry. Not only is it certified for single-pilot operation, but it’s the fastest and longest-range single-pilot jet in the business aircraft category. In fact, when optimized for range, the 300E can cruise non-stop for up to 2,010 nautical miles, and when optimized for speed, the aircraft can maintain a cruise speed of 464 knots. Today we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about the real cost of owning the Embraer Phenom 300E.
0:53 - Purchase and Charter Price
The base purchase price is $10 million before options, and the charter price is estimated at $3,000 to $4,000 per hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees, and more.
1:09 - Operating Costs
There are two expense categories to consider: fixed costs and variable costs.
1:14 - Fixed Costs
Fixed costs are those that you pay no matter what. Whether the aircraft flies or not has no effect on fixed costs. These costs do not change in relation to the number of hours the aircraft flies. There are five criteria that have been identified as the biggest contributors to the annual fixed cost of operation.
1:35 - Crew Salary
In terms of fixed costs, the crew salary is a significant one. Whether the aircraft is flying or not, the crew will need to be paid their salaries. This is a cost that will vary depending on region and aircraft type. For example, the cost of labor in certain parts of the world is lower than in others. Additionally, larger aircraft require more crew.
2:04 - Crew Training
This is a cost that will keep on occurring every year, whether your aircraft flies or not. Having well-trained crew members is important. Again, they are integral to the safe and efficient operation of your aircraft.
2:25 - Hangar
When it comes to aircraft storage there are two options - hangar or tie down. In most cases, owners are not going to let their planes sit out in the wind and rain. Therefore, it is a safe assumption that most private aircraft will be stored in hangars when not in use.
2:49 - Insurance
There are two types of insurance that private planes must have.
The first is liability insurance, which provides cover against loss, damage, or injury to third parties, such as passengers, cargo, and baggage.
The second is Hull Insurance, which is agreed on the value of the aircraft. Therefore, in the event of a total loss, insurers will pay the agreed value as opposed to the current market value.
4:05 - Management
An aircraft management team provides all the necessary services required to fly the aircraft. For example, sourcing and managing pilots to make sure the aircraft is airworthy, are all tasks provided by your aircraft management company.
4:45 - Total Fixed Cost
4:55 - Variable Costs
Variable costs, on the other hand, are directly proportional to the number of hours the aircraft flies per year: the more you fly the aircraft, the more it will cost you. Because of this, the estimated variable cost is presented as an hourly figure, which is how much extra the aircraft will cost you per flight hour. There are four factors that we have built into the hourly variable cost figure.
5:20 - Fuel
Fuel costs are a significant hourly expense when operating a private plane. Of course, the amount of fuel that the aircraft burns per hour will vary greatly depending on its average hourly consumption. Of course, depending on location, fuel prices vary dramatically.
5:53 - Maintenance
In order to ensure that aircraft are safe to fly they require maintenance at regular intervals. These intervals are scheduled and dependent on the manufacturer's guidelines. Maintenance is scheduled based on the number of hours flown.
6:43 - Engine Overhaul
An engine overhaul is a more serious scheduled event that is essentially the maintenance and inspection of the engine. Again, much like maintenance of the airframe, the more an engine is used, the more wear and tear it will experience. Therefore, the more hours flown the more often an engine overhaul will need to be performed.
7:11 - Crew, Landing, and Handling Fees
Crew fees are those that you need to pay the crew during an extended stay. Secondly, when landing at an airport, aircraft are charged a landing fee, which is usually based on the weight of the aircraft. And finally, handling fees go hand in hand with landing fees.
8:18 - Total Variable Cost

  • The engines have to be insured. The cost for a n engine replacement is exorbitant. This is a separate insurance rider and should be strongly considered.

  • Could you please make a video on the Bombardier Challenger 600 family and the Challenger 850? They are my personal favorite group of private jets!

  • Way too complicated and costly for occasional use. My sister knew a multibillionaire family, even they chartered out their jets. Instead of this heavy complicated bus, it could be a very light composite 6 seater including pilot seat where autopilot does almost all the flying including take off and landing. With computerized ATC we could get rid of the clumsy 100 year old voice protocol stress and inefficiency and flying would be effortless and direct. Instead of 5 ton empty it could be 400kg empty. Engines so small that they cost very little to buy or replace. And service on a simple single piece craft can be negligible. Where is the freedom when you have to battle extreme costs and wait for when crews are available anyway. compare it to a Tesla. You could drive it whenever you want or make it 100x more expensive and wait for your driver to show up in an hour or two. Which is freedom. Imagine you fly 4 times a year. Do you want a pilot crew on guard 24/7 year round living at the hangar for those 4? that's at least 3 crews on 8 hour shifts and more for weekends and vacations. Not to mention the environmental merits of a heavy wasteful bus. When even billionaires charter out their planes the concept doesn't work. It can be done so vastly better.

  • Seems ridiculous to buy one. You could fly 100 hours a year for 25 years before you even get to the price of the initial purchase lol. Then add in all the other stuff. Seems like a no brainer to just charter

    • If you are flying 100 hours a year another option is fractional ownership like Netjets or Flexjet. There are also leases and jet cards. Flying a lot on a private jet can get complicated.

    • No one will buy jets if the rich also thinks like you. Most of them buy jets to pay less tax that will offset ur problem not to mention the bragging rights of owning a private jet
