  • In my work as a carpenter I once got trapped under a beam in a building crawl space, trapped to the point that my breathing was impacted. I never had any issue with confined spaces before that. It took about a half an hour for coworkers to hear me yelling for help and pull me out, it felt like hours. After that confined spaces trigger irrational fear and anxiety. Watching you navigate these extremely tight spaces makes the hair on my neck stand up. I am completely comfortable working at any height but tight, confined spaces is a hard no from me now, you couldn't pay me to do that now.

One time I climbed the highest hill in my area at 3 in the morning with some friends and we sat on top until the sun came up and it was extremely foggy so for about 10 minutes all the fog turned orange and you couldn’t see the ground other then the other hills we could see. It was such a magical feeling to be the only ones who saw that beautiful orange sea. This video reminds of that feeling

Those seem like sad excuses for not going outside and enjoying life. But this is neither your concern nor mine. You're you're doing exactly what you want and you should. • @@CalvinHikes Mines are really neat because of the history. Sometimes you find really old items and some interesting techniques for keeping artificial caves from collapsing. There's always something to learn when it comes to exploring what lays underground. I'm sure you know that better then most of us. Just be careful with mines though, because they are less stable then natural caves. Those drifts were never meant to be there in the first place.

While searching for caves, one is engaged in outdoor activities that most people do as their primary activity. But a caver, does it as a secondary activity. But I imagine yall enjoy all of it. Cavers just love all forms of adventure. You must. In order to like going into small tight spaces.

The sheer levels of adventure alone are enough to make my heart pound, but coupled with the thrill of seeing such alien worlds first hand, I really can’t comprehend it fully from the couch. It’s almost as if you are seeing earths secrets, and paying the cost needed to do so. I’m just so floored and I felt compelled to comment because I see so many terrible comments here and there (yay, internet) and you deserve to be acknowledged with straight admiration. I am a bit of an adventure myself, and I am feeling a pull to try caving. Of course, only with a guide, and only after I spent considerable time teaching myself basics. My last parting thought is this - I am amazed at how bonded you and your son must be after having gone through so many of these caves. It’s a level of intimacy and partnership that I’m betting most men don’t get to experience with their dads. I legit commend you as a dad, your son will forever be your best friend. Warm regards, from Minnesota.
