This is what I love about old movie : animatronics. As good as CG is, there's something about cinematronic that CG can't duplicate
Yeah but animatronics are outdated. The only reason he looked real because literally he was there physically. You can't fake that but then you got animations that completely kill the vibe.
@@endangeredmexican9644 if done right is really good, check out krampus animatronic from the horror movie
@@endangeredmexican9644Maybe animatronics from 1995 are outdated, but modern animatronics are very good, and have been used to brilliant effect in several recent movies.
To those that ever said this was a “B” movie or crap…the amount of work that goes into these movies is really amazing. The talent and skill to make something like this. Incredible.
Not to mention, how many B movies have incredible and MEMORABLE fight scenes?
I think that they spent mostof their budget on Goro, lol. Most about this movie is indeed "B" level, this however is amazing.
PLUS IT WAS THE 90S FIRST MOVIE WITH SUCH FEATURES.
It is a b movie, but it's so bad it's good and I love it
@@ComicBookGuy420 nah
i wish i could like this million times, i always love how this movie put so much effort into it without huge budgets, really the labor of love
Goro legit looks real at 4:37. As if he's a conscious being taking notes from the director.
I had no idea how complex this animatronic was. I assumed they just used two people's arms with prosthetics for a lot of those shots. I thought the animatronics were mostly for the face. I never questioned for a second if he was real when I saw this as a kid. It totally convinced me.
This will Always be the Original Movie for Mortal Combat! Best one!
Mortal Kombat not Combat
Imagine what they could do with modern 3D printing, wireless controls, AI, and miniaturized actuators. +CGI to iron out the kinks. But no, they went with full CG instead.
Yea doing like what you suggested would He awesome
I love how they do most of the things practical.
Just amazing cinematronics. It really shows how impressive this was put together.
How did the second set of arms look so convincing by the actor just moving up and down mind blown repeatedly
Definitely prefer this Goro to the 2021 one!
Absolutely, that's one of the few areas in which this movie was superior to the 2021 version in the 2021 version, Gora was just a big CGI goon with very little personality to him. In this version, in contrast, girl has personality, intelligence, and is well-spoken. He actually acts like the prince / warlord that he is supposed to be.
My brother Angel took me to watch Mortal Kombat with my best friend at the Cloudio. Great time watching the movie as a child.❤❤️🔥
This is so great before this movie you'd only see these characters when playing the arcade game so on a little pixelated screen and the artwork on the outside of the machine. It's kinda crazy how one's imagination works with whatever it's given and in the early 90's that wasn't much. This is so neat.
The new mortal kombat movie is looking good so far!
This is mad impressive
These people were talking Virtual Reality at the end. This was long before VR was a thing...bruhhh 🔥🔥🔥
VR was a thing in the 90s it was a short wave but I played the same games when I was a kid.
@@JamaalMalikArt Virtual Boy, for example.
I was born in 1990. This is the Goro that Haunted my dreams growing up. The new MK movie did him no justice 🤦🏿♂️
Disagree.
@@Yuvsme Respect. Nevertheless it just wasn't it. It felt rushed and was lacking in some areas. My main problem is Goro. I was looking forward to seeing him. Too much CGI, They made him look like shrek with muscles and the list goes on.
@tfrankest1990 i partially agree and partially don't. They never really explained his backstory and never let have muxh dialogue so to the uninitiated, he just seems like a big, dumb oaf. But he doesn't look that bad honestly, I just HATE that Cole killed him, mostly because I hated Cole, both as a character and as a fighter. Without him, the movie would actually be pretty great.
@@tfrankest1990 100% agree with him feeling rushed. He also lost to some random dude made for the movie
@Welovetetee_ this one is actually there in real life. You can actually see him, touch him, and whatever else. The new Goro is completely CGI. Completely fake. Not there, can't touch him, or anything. Just the actor playing him.
This is absolutely incredible.
Watching 2021 movie I thought to research original Goro. This is so impressive and stunning! Really cool!
So much hard work. Innovative ideas beyond computer tech. Gotta love creativity of good old days.
That animatronic face could carry a horror film
Finally before mortal kombat 2021 realest
This is amazing. 🙂
The Goro effects are the only part of this movie that aged well. Go figure that they were well-crafted animatronics (stacked on top of a good human performer and a gigantic team of expert puppeteers).
0:26 - It seems that sculptor referenced himself for goro's head.
This Goro was far more game like authentic and scarier than the new Mortal Kombat Goro.
Impressive stuff
I was 5 and when this came out. Goro scared the shit out of me every single time me and my older brother wstched this. I watched the movie lately and was afraid to go for pee in the middle of the night anyway. That’s how you make characters😅
CGI can NEVER replace animatronics..
If i ever become rich, like johnny or nicholas cage rich, I'm gonna buy that animatronic goro puppet
I'll take practical effects any day over CG. Even though CG has come a really long way since then.
Based on this torso length he should have been 9 feet tall if his legs matched his torso but still definitely cool
I love this animatronic
Impressive and creative effect today obviously better than cgi 😅
4:48 LOL!
Undertaker be looking like 2:19 😾
How does this goro still hold up after all this time? I was afraid of this guy as a kid! Some how he's more intimidating than the 2022 version.
Because the 2021 version is completely CGI. This one is awesome because you could actually wear a suit and walk around as Goro
It’s as much to do with Goro actually being a character and not just a jobber as it is you’re less easily scared as an adult
Me vuelvo loco 😍
i wish CG would use waldoes like this more often, for natural movements, instead of just pure recorded mocap. let someone be puppeting it live so it can react. The upper arms look so natural, the way they swing around and bounce in perfect time. I've never seen the likes before or since that said, the torso ends up too long and skinny in this configuration. The only way to get an ideal, proportional goro would be to A) get a taller actor with a really broad torso and long legs, and B) have his head inside Goro's neck.
Cinema são Luiz em Recife 👍 demais 👏👏 época boa
1995! Wow!
Im scary to see Goro bcoz it looks a life without CGI
I thought lower arms were special effects and upper arms and face were actor wearing make-up. I guess I was wrong. Damn impressive thing.
animatronics over CG any fuckin day (and i love CG)
How is he moving the top arms?
Tooop
the really did a good job i think Method's one is better but hey for the time he was good
New one gonna be all CGI
@@fuzzyfrog8861 yeah i know it is and it looks better i mean Method Studios is a VFX Vompany so yeah and they are really Great
ITS SOMEHOW BETTER THAN THE GORO IN THE 2021
The og MK were the best
Very interesting I was just rewatching the old MK films after watching the new one. The CG has come a long way but the old Goro looked animatronic, this is impressive. Almost better than the new CG version.
I thought Goro was actually handled better as a character in this one than in the new one (Which is otherwise awesome). In that one, Goro comes across as just a big dumb goon, but in this one he actually acts like the intelligent, articulate prince/ warlord he's supposed to be, especially in his first scene when he's talking with Kano and Shang Tsung.
@@Adamguy2003 you hit the nail on the head. In the old MK Goro was built up. In the new one he's just a groaning goon.
ALMOST better? you must be joking. so rather than this objectively authentic looking tangible creature you preferred the blatantly fake high fantasy orc wannabe version in the 2021 movie?
Back in the day I was wondering HOW they did it.
If only they done it with scorpion king in the mummy.
looks like thanos at first
Yeet
How he is controlling 4 hands?
Actor has lower arms and walks around carrying that big animatronic piece and technicial operates upper arms with motion capture operated remotely. It is complicated.
One actor is IN the suit, controlling the bottom arms, and the other is in a robot suit, off to the side, controlling the top arms and the head, matching the actor in the costumes movements.
Four arms
CGI just can’t make surfaces and textures look real in lighting.
Thanos brother venos
is old cuz it was made it 1995
Finally BTS is now available 😊😊
His legs are way too short
It was 1995 and they had to use a real human in the costume, it's gonna be short.
lol this is 10 years old
It's older than that, this is 28 years old.
This movie SUCKS!!
