Then I found out more about him and The Rose and I had already heard one of their songs before but didn't realize who sang it but loved the song. But, Woosung as a person is so f-ing impressive. I love intellectual men, and I love Indie rock, so Woosung is like my hero! I mean he is the coolest, the way he expresses himself is amazing. What a human being, he is beyond a great artist, musician, lead of a band. He makes me jealous that I am not like him, or that I am not in his circle of friends at least!

  • Man, Woosung doesn't even know how deep he struck me with that talk about his music career. I was a top student in my high school. Got the best SAT scores and graduation exam scores out of everyone in my year. People were telling me "OMG, with these kinds of results, you can go anywhere you want, you'll be unstoppable" and stuff. They've been honestly telling me that for almost all my life, so I was kinda numb for that at first, but when high school came around all that talk made me think maybe I can get into some good universities and put these grades to use. However, looking back, I know that deep down I didn't really believe in that dream of going to the best colleges and getting the best education to get the best jobs, but I felt obligated to have that kind of a dream. I didn't really excel in my applications to the best colleges, which was a big blow to my self-image, but I didn't want it to affect me that much so I arrogantly plowed through. In the end, I got into the best university in a foreign country with the pressure from my parents, but certainly not up to the standards that I thought I had, so I was very bummed out deep inside. Fast forward, it's my fourth year in what was supposed to be a four-year degree but now has extended to five and that's in the best case scenario. My grades steadily declined semester after semester with so many fails with 5 Fs and a single C in my recent semester. Yesterday, I got an email from my university about how they cut me almost half of my scholarship. I had a 100% scholarship with a free dormitory when I started and over the years, it slowly went down to this. I turned into a recluse, became super lazy (not that I wa particularly hard-working before), bitter and depressed, gained 30-40 pounds of weight and am just sitting here being nothing but a financial burden to my family with 5 kids. I know that if I look objectively it's all really my fault. But at this point it feels like there's no point in anything. I can't really tell that to my family cuz they support me a lot and it would be cruel to tell them about all my dark thoughts, and I don't have many friends as a result of isolating myself and ghosting everyone I knew so not too much sollace there either. So what do I even do? People had so many expectations of me and I was a too much of a coward to admit to myself, on time, that I didn't want to or didn't have enough strength to deliver on their expectations. I came to know this guy for the first time in this video (I remember listening to a bit of Rose here and there but nothing too major) and already see so much of myself in his earlier years. I hope I find the same kind of strength in myself that Sammy found through his journey because there's no other way at this point

    • I hope you're doing better now, you deserve to feel free, honestly. I have quite literally the exact same life story as you, down to the social isolation, weight gain, and falling behind in uni after being good at studying all my life. I hope you understand just how badly depression can screw people over when they aren't living a life authentic to them, it is by no means your fault or weakness. Thank you for sharing your story, sad as it may be, it made me feel lighter.

    • I'm sorry to hear that you've gone through this, but tbh for a second there I thought I wrote this. I have gone through the same thing. I dropped in my thesis cause I really was blank. It wasn't that I didn't attempt it, but I just couldn't process what I wanted to do. So yeah I do on getting my degree but I really needed a break and i honestly didn't know how long of a break I needed. But I just decided to give myself time and not punish myself for something I never really wanted to do in the first place. And so I just worked on "healing", realising that I've got so many people who love me and care for me and that I too have so many things/people that I actually do love, and trying to grasp the idea of life having its ups and downs and it being different for everyone and that I have every right as a human being to fail and every right to pick myself back up again. So I hope you're doing better and hope that you'll eventually if not sooner find whatever it is that puts you at ease. :)

    • Your not alone. I went through the same thing except I started spiraling senior year of highschool. After my mom told me I was a disappointment for having one B+ in one class the rest were A’s. She always held me to a higher standard when it came to academics because I was a girl and my brothers were expected to act up since they were boys. They never graduated highschool. Senior year, My dad ended up passing away because of cancer suddenly too and he was my person at that time. He was the only one I felt that tried to understand me and made it clear that I was more important to him than my demons and struggles. Anyways that took a blow from my identity and happiness when he left so suddenly . I was in weightlifting sports and was fit. After barely graduating: I really tried to go to college even with banged up grades and no support or push form my family. Just plain pressure now. My dads last dying wish was for me to get a degree in something so life isn’t hard for me. He suffered first hand being a man without education and worked on a boat for months at a time sometimes years. He hated being away from us. He said his biggest regret was not finishing school to choose a job where he could stay home and letting my mom take me away from him when they separated. I ended up spending 2/3 of his insurance death pay off in moving back and forth from cities and trying to get a medical degree. Along the way I gained 70lbs. My family always made fun of me. For example on my 18th birthday my brother made it me to lie by asking the water park personnel if I was alright to go on the slide VERY loudly infront of all the guest, he said “weight limit is 300lbs, she’s not gonna break it right ?” And laughs. Everyone got silent and just looked at me. I felt so ashamed and embarrassed. I cried in the hotel room the rest of the night while drinking. A handle of honey jack. Anyways I’m 24 now & have a cosmetologist license I was floating around in life. I’m married but I still felt empty. Sadness was in me everyday. I struggled to keep alive. Keep friends. I ended up finding true joy by having my baby (accidentally) when I laid eyes on my little girl. She was so small. So fragile. Pure. And I knew she was my world from then on . I knew I wouldn’t let her go through the things I did. That I had someone that would love me unconditionally now nd vice versa. She saved me. I hope you find your true happiness someday.

The way Josh and Ollie were quiet and him speaking and his presence overshadowed the food, as soon as Woosung came on stage it overshadowed the pain in my feet from standing and the clammy hot air in the room.
