I think it was a reference to her song Red. “Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street”, and I think she wanted to portray that it deserved a grammy. It actually deserved one, it was a masterpiece.
I think so too. I see it as her way of portraying how being canceled felt. She made history winning AOTY for 1989 and then Kim and Kanye completely abruptly wrecked her reputation. Instead of people coming to her aid, everyone just gawked over the catastrophe. But she walked away in the end.

Break down: The grave said "Here Lies Taylor Swift's REPUTATION", The tilted stage, Kanye sings from a tilted stage, also in his song he said "he made that BITCH famous" that is why it is said at the end, and why she did Reputation, by Kim and Kanye lying about the phone call saying Taylor gave permission for him to say that (the bitch part), but when the song came out, she stood up for herself and said no she did not. By now we know that Kim edited that tape, and they were calling Taylor a snake. The bathtub scene with diamonds is about Kim getting her diamonds stolen in Paris, also there is a dollar bill on top of the diamonds from her lawsuit against a radio personality who grabbed her butt and she sued him for one dollar. The gun is a metaphor also. The car crash is about Katy Perry (look at the hairstyle), but at the very end of MV it shows the back side of her, when asked what she was doing and she said something about receipts and going to edit them later, that is Kim and about the edited tape. Taylor in a bird cage, there are several things it could mean, Kanye, he has done her dirty 3 times, the 2 previous times she had forgiven him and welcomed Kanye into her life, also if you think bird cage and the old saying singing like a bird, she is (calling Kim and Kanye out). The majority of the Taylors are from her old music video's, old shows, the old Taylor is dead because she lost her reputation when Kim and Kayne started all that lie stuff and were calling her a snake. The money burning thing was about the Streaming co not paying the artists, the part where Taylor in in the sexy black, and all the other women too, were about people calling her out for only having female friends with perfect bodies, there was Squad flashing signs. The motorcycle part was about Big Machine Records not letting her buy her discography. The snakes were pouring the tea, she spilled the tea didn't she? For future MV's remember Taylor always uses a lot of metaphors. Also, now karma is now biting K & K back.
This song references her feuding with Kim & Kanye - the whole Taylor is a snake thing. But the song is also referencing her record label not allowing her to buy the rights of her previous albums back. They were only interested in her “earning” back her old albums with one new album at a time.

She got slammed for revealing that after she broke up with Calvin) - jewelry bath tub: reference to Kim Kardashian's robbery incident + 1 dollar on top of all diamonds referring to her sexual assault lawsuit which she won but got bad rep because "it's just a grope, no need to make it big" something like that. - Queen of snakes: she was labelled as "snake" by the entire internet community, a trend started by the Kardashians. On the armrest of the throne was written "Et tu, Brute", meaning "you too, Brute?" a quote by Caesar who was betrayed. - car crash scene: reference to a lyric, "driving a new Maserati down a dead end street" from RED album, Taylor was holding a grammy. She was snubbed, Red album was a masterpiece yet it didn't get a single grammy. Tho some people interpret it as a shade towards Katy Perry because of her hairstyle + leopard from Katy's Roar + the fact that Katy doesn't have a grammy. - cage scene: not very sure about this one but could be the media as you said. - cat mask robbery: Taylor pulled out all her album from Spotify as rebellion because Spotify wouldn't pay the artists as they deserve. The media played her out like a "greedy person robbing a streaming company" but she did that to fight for the new artists who were struggling. For me Taylor and the airplane wing means her álbum that was in process when all the kim kanye drama, if pay atention the plane says TS6 (which means taylor swift 6th álbum) she cuts the wing and writes reputation, her actual 6th studio álbum. She had an album every 2 years. 1989 was released in 2014 so in 2016 it was almost ready her 6th, but all the drama happened and she came back on 2017 with reputation. So, to sum up, look what you (the media, kanye, kim, etc) make her do (she deleted her TS6 and had the best come back of history of pop music)

This video is a lot to take in 1st watch. It was definitely a pop cultural reset for her cause no one expected this from her from the song to the video. Its also full of a lot of Easter eggs that once you understand everything about her up to this moment you can pick the more noticeable ones but there's apparently still many detective swifties have yet to uncover.

Yes the outfits and the different representations of her are all from past videos or stage performances. At the beginning of the video when it's written "here lies Taylor Swift's reputation" it's literally how much people hated on her how much people had to say on her. Her rising from the dead is a metaphor for her coming back and not letting the haters be the end of her. She has gone through a lot. And her music has evolved and changed according to what went on in her life. I'm proud of her.

it was a very sad and uncertain time in Taylor Swift‘s career when she released this song/video. Basically someone blatantly lied on her this lie made her look like A bad person and ruined her career and reputation. luckily about nine years later a video came out that indisputably proved Taylor was innocent of what she was being accused of.
This was the promotional single for the Reputation album. It was released after she spent a year “in hiding” after 1989 when she got too much criticism from the media. A lot of the song is anti-Kanye, for the emotional damage Kim/Kanye did to her. “I don’t like your tilted stage” refers to Kanye’s Life of Pablo tour. The snakes is because Kim called Taylor a snake. This song is supposed to be a cultural reset for Taylor, she is basically telling all the haters to F off.

Historic! Reputation is her 6th album 2017. So much to unpack here, I won’t restate all the meanings. It’s genius. What to do next???? If you want to stay in the Reputation era, try Endgame and Ready For It.. MVs. If you want to switch it up because like you said, you never know with Taylor, she kinda does it all. I will suggest 2 live performances that are a shift from REP but not that big of a shift to go back to her country roots. Something recent, 2019. Cornelia St live in Paris. And False God live on SNL. Two completely different sides of Taylor and two very different sides from Look What You Made Me Do. Two prime examples of her recent versatility. With LWYMMD, these would represent 3 different genres of music.

The origin of that actually started with Taylor getting cancelled first after Kim and Kanye edited the infamous phonecall to portray her very negatively, and the general public believed it and "cancelled" her. She literally disappeared from the public's faces for a whole year before suddenly returning with "reputation", her 6th studio album. It is worth noting that last year the actual unedited phonecall was leaked, showing that Taylor had been innocent all along!

In the motorcycle scene, it is like the media talked about her famous squad and as if she had a "gang". In the scene of her being buried by herself I think it's a metaphor for Taylor's whole deal with Kayne because after that the media said she was "dead" like her entire reputation.
