Adam Henson is excited to introduce you to our newest addition to the team, Gwen, a 14-month-old border collie. Join Adam as he demonstrates Gwen's impressive herding skills and shares some background on his house dogs and previous border collie sheepdog, Peg, who has recently retired.
Discover how Gwen, Adam's young border collie, was trained using a mouth whistle and how Adam is adapting to giving commands in an unfamiliar way. Witness Gwen's gentle nature and remarkable response to commands as she shows great promise as a shepherd's companion.
We're confident that Gwen will become a fan favorite and a beloved addition to our farm, especially as she continues to perfect her herding skills. Be sure to visit Cotswold Farm Park and see Gwen and the rest of our sheepdogs in action!

  • On our ranch we never separate our dogs. Everyone eats at the same time and sleeps under the same roof, people and dogs. We also never leave our senior dogs behind. While still able they help immensely in training the younger dogs. Retirement for our dogs just means riding around in the air conditioned truck watching the youngsters work 😂

  • I'm picking up my 8week old B/C dog next week. Although he won't be working, he will be a regular visitor to the farm, where he was born, visiting his parents, and some of his siblings , to run the fields and socialise as much as he wants. He is from great stock, and his grand parents are still working dogs. ( Welsh hill farmers ) It's taken me 5yrs to get the courage to get another dog, after losing my best mate Max, a border terrier, who was with us for 18yrs. The grief is still bad .but at 73, I am hoping I won't have to go through it again. Thanks for sharing this vid.

She is such a city girl and loves to sleep in. However she gots the smarts, and sometimes, she is in the mood to run on a field and she lets out that dormant border collie part. Love them

    • Long time ago, my family had a ranch house in an valley, and many families in that area had horses, but most people worked during the day, not at homes, so it was a very quite and peaceful valley and attracted wild horses and cayotes(even black bears). We had a border collie whose hobby was chasing those wild horses and cayotes away because he thought that it was his responsibility to protect my neighbors horses, cows and dogs. I witnessed several times he gathered my neighbor's two horses together, so I had to keep him inside of fence since then. I have a new border collie puppy now and also has the instinct of herding. Amazing! 😄😄😄

My sister had a farm in Pennsylvania (USA) and it was so cute to watch at the end of the work session when Kate said "that'll do", the collie would leap across a fence and jump in the pond for a bit of refreshment in summertime :) I'm a city girl and feel sad when I see these beautiful creatures confined to small lots and maybe lucky to go to a park to catch a frisbee occasionally

They also like going to “town” and sniffing all the smells, seeing the other dogs and getting fussed over by the people who admire them. • @@CotswoldFarmPark Someone dumped a border collie on us about 6 years ago, along with a blue healer and rottweiler mixed. They were badly abused and starved...the first time I swept the porch off he attacked the broom, they shake tremendously and run off to the house at the sound of a gun, even way in the distance, they are extremely scared when we burn the trash. I started out slow brushing the border collie with the broom, he is much better now and I can sweep without him shaking, my husband and I are so glad they found us and stayed, we just love those babies! The border collie is a big guy, I bet he is atleast 85 lbs.

My best was so well bred that she made the novice I am seem skilled and had several 1st and 2nd place ribbons in sheepdog trials. I’ve had them constantly since 1980 except for my few short years in the Army. My current 2 year old Winston loved your video so much that he was jumping up on the table in front of our TV to be closer to the sheep and your beautiful girl that has pretty much the same markings as him all through watching this video. She actually paddles a ball with a frisbee but I work her as is she is rounding up a herd by sending her around trees and items on our homestead. It keeps her brain and body on the game so to speak. She also uses her talents to out smart our doodle that can now outrun her but doe not have her agility in all directions. Amazing pups.

  • We have the shetland sheepdogs from Scotland. They are smaller compared to the shetland sheepdogs bred here in the States. Hope to see y'all get some, perhaps. The breed is not big here in the States, unfortunately. Their size is 8 to 15 lbs, fully grown. They are, however fully functional as herd dogs. ❤
