To top it off, they are still independently owned family company to this day. A long time ago I was participating in a watch forum and this same statement came up, to which I replied as I just did. Much to my surprise, I received a reply from Nicholas Hayek Sr, pointing out that I was indeed correct, and jokingly ended with they still won’t sell the company to me. • Problem is Rolex likes this situation. Despite many models being valued now below retail prices, it’s still fueling hype, scarcity and manufactured prestige. The most desired models are still vastly unavailable. It allows Rolex to raise prices systematically and therefore increase their profits. I’m afraid in the next 20 years we’ll see a decline in the industry and no one will land harder on their ass, than Rolex.

  • Brilliant, just brilliant entertainment, as well as informative. You should be, hopefully will be, at 1 million subs soon. I view many watch channels, yet yours is still the most enjoyable and informative. As for the content on this vid, damn, the Breguet, as an owner of a special piece, plu my second favourite brand, that has a marketing attitude as frustrating as that woman you love, yet is always causing havoc in your life. Then to Blancpain, which, for all its good product, is lost in the forest. As for the others, you have described them perfectly. Cheers!

  • My favorite worst brand is Piaget. The make some fantastic watches, have a great history and undeniable luxury credentials. And what they do with all that greatness? Literally NOTHING. When they came out with the Polo 79, I was quite enthusiastic, but the pricetag of 73K is simply ridiculous for what you get (a no complications gold watch). Who the heck is this even for?!

  • "It's like David Lynch drank lead paint" 11/10 video and very insightful. I wanted to say Universal Genève, but its recent acquisition by Breitling might revive the long-dead brand over the next couple of years (Breitling CEO estimates 2 years) and I'm very excited for that.

  • Lots of fun, this was a great list. Wasn’t there a certain legendary KZheadr that used to own a U-Boat? Who wore it while riding (and crashing) a motorbike?

  • I'm a budget-watch man. (Over £200? Not interested.) However, I'm also a fan of stand-up, and comedy in general, so I watch your channel, about watches I'll never afford, simply for the giggles. You are, if you'll forgive me saying, funny as fk. Thank you.

  • Great point with Rolex, I've been fortunate enough to not have to deal with waitlist, both watches I was able to get within two weeks of asking. Love the brand but like you said, you shouldn't have to feel like they are the ones doing you a favor of owning one. A big cause of all of this is the secondary market.

  • I just took delivery of a Rolex Sprite, it took me two years, five months and four days but I had zero purchase history, I was just annoying and stopped in every month or two to play with the display model. That being said I had a great purchase experience when my time came and it felt like a dream, the sprite was the only model Rolex has made that caught my eye and it will be going in many adventures with me.
