All episodes: • 1812. Napoleonic Wars ...
On 26th August, 1812, two huge armies were doing the last preparations to one of the bloodiest battle of the epoch near the village of Borodino, 124 kilometers away from Moscow. A quarter of million soldiers, over a thousand cannons. Here, near Borodino, the fate of all the military campaign, the fate of Moscow, the fate of all Russia was being decided.
With the first streak of dawn the drums roared and pipes sounded in the French and Russian camps. At about 5.30 a.m. over 100 French cannons started bombarding the positions of the Russian left flank where the Bagration flèches were located, while the first distracting attacks were held by Napoleon on the right flank.

    • @fullmetaljaco , This conversation was saved memoirs of Balashov

      @fate4395@fate43954 жыл бұрын
    • @fullmetaljaco, In Leo Tolstoy, this is well described in War and peace. Napoleon asked Balashov several questions, which he answered with great dignity, all the while dropping impertinent hints. For example, when asked which road leads to Moscow, he replied that there are many roads, and one of them goes through Poltava. And in response to Napoleon's remark that there are many churches in Russia and the population seems to be religious, Balashov said that this was true, and added: "As in Spain." Tolstoy's description of this is quite remarkable - he tells how Napoleon's entourage pretended that nothing special was said, and if it was, it does not deserve attention, and so on. According to Tarla, a good part of the conversation between Napoleon and Balashov was simply invented by Balashov, and L. N. Tolstoy, who used Balashov's memoirs as the source material, was mistaken, and the entire "mise EN scene" that he skillfully constructed, namely the mise EN scene, is pure theater, which never actually happened?

    • Look anybody who conflates the Scottish flag with the Confederate is someone whom is obviously a troubled individual... I couldn't give a crap about what Russia was doing when Napolean marched through there. Sure, they were aggressive, but, hell if I had Napolean running around wouldn't you be? As for the WWI piece I haven't seen it. Mistakes can be made in documentaries... so what? It still does not detract from the quality and indepth nature of the series. I am muting this conversation. However, have a good day.

    • It's actually really important to, Caesar himself said something along the lines that the biggest moments of war are often caused by minor actions. Whole armies might engage in battle due to a single soldier or a group skirmish and small actions. WWI is probably the best case, be it the ANZAC at Galipolli or the Germans in Flandrers, more than once an army broke through the enemy lines but the soldiers were so used to the small gains and losses, so hungry and tired, thinking of just surviving the next day, that they settled out and lost the initiative until it was too late.

  • I am passionate about learning everything about world history, as much as I can, of course. You have just posted two of my many favorite aspects of world history, Napoleanic wars and Russia. ^_^ There is something special about Russia.. I always turn towards back to her. Being so big, it can be mistaken as its own continent, not just another country. If we can change our solar system and make Pluto no longer an official planet, than why not change Russia into a continent? Unfortunately, western nations are obsessive with the number 7 and will never want to change the list of continents into 8, which by the way is a lucky number for most Asian countries. Anyways thank you for increasing the videos about Russias' history. I love your style of narration and execution of facts. Please keep it up. Would be a wonderful world history collection series. Thank you so much again. Your channel is the best for history knowledge.

The is a two part French documentary about Napoleon's Invasion and Retreat which is very good as it mentions a rank and file Old Guard along with major players like Kutusov, Alexander I, and Napoleon (of course). One new name I've never heard before was Napoleon's staff Marshal Coloncueier. His Excellency ignored his advice and the Grand Army was destroyed.

This makes sure that the target language sounds normal. In other words English subtitles of Russian movies are better done by English speakers, while Russian subtitles of English movies are better done by Russian speakers. Very simple, no conspiracy, no counter intelligence, just the possibility to follow the narrative optimally. Привет из Греции.

  • The Grandee Army were already in hell without firing a single shot in the first months of invasion because of the Russian heat and the vast country they needed to march. Russian Generals are wise to retreat :) Even if Napoleon can turn back time I cant think of any possible way how he can defeat Russia. 600,000 men is still too small for a Russian invasion

    • +Mr. C. My only problem with foreign language narrators is that some times they talk too fast forcing you to read the subtitles quickly to keep up with what he's saying, meanwhile, you miss some of the images on the screen. If the pace is reasonable, I don't mind if the narrator speaks a foreign language as long as there are subtitles.
