  • Dear Nicole, What a joy to see you again, as well as great sadness about your lovely Marcel… We dog lovers go through this, don’t we? When I see you, here with your friend Sarah, I feel like in spite of everything the world is fundamentally a good place. Thank you for reminding me that every day is a new day, and that there is a new make around the corner !❤

  • So glad to see you again , Nicole!! Also, very very sad about Marcel. I loved the glimpses you showed of him over the episodes. He was a true gentle sweetheart of a dog, and was blessed to have you as his mother!!! Good luck with the weaving...my friend who weaves says it's very satisfying because it goes so quickly! As always, your new yarns, projects and outdoor footage of the woods are so beautiful! Glad to see spring is coming your way.

My dream is to one day bump into you at a fiber festival and give you a big hug. Thanks for being you ❤ I'm so so sorry about your beautiful pup, you gave him a great life. • Hi Nicole! It’s funny how we share the same yarn preferences… My favorite ones are Léttlopi, of course, Briggs & Little, and a very local farm yarn just 20 mn from where I live, les Brebis du Beaurivage. In fact, the East Frisian breed you mentionned is I’m 100% sure from them, as Les Arts Textiles du Témiscouata died alot for them, until recently. You really should love their fiber. I’ve made a Darkwater in Petite Frisonne and it’s in my top 2 favorite sweaters, with my Riddari in Léttlopi! It’s hardwearing, no peeling, medium soft (but love it) and very warm. Right in your tastes! If ever you can try the Frisonne, in any weight, I am sure you will LOVE it as I do. Thanks again for your hard work getting this content out, it’s very much appreciated. And, oh, I must add I’m completely with you about dear Marcel. I own a 11 and a half year old Labrador and can’t believe what I’ll do without him… Take the time to greave him, and eventually another will not replace, but take another part of your heart. Love 💙💙

  • Nicole, such a pleasure to see you again. I’m not sure if you’ll see this post, but if you do, you may be interested in a book titled Wintering (2020) by British writer Katherine May. She explores natural cycles of what it means to “winter” for living things - plants, animals, some insects (bees), and people both physically and metaphorically. We are in and of the natural world in ways that offer us opportunities to deepen our understandings of self. I won’t say more as May’s book deserves individual consideration.

It’s funny that your preferred palate is faded, soft colours, because when you wear dark grey, dark blue, and that beautiful blue-red you totally pop. They so suit you. • Re-weaving at home. I have a woven textile degree and may have a few tips for you. It is quite a financial and time commitment investment, therefore, to minimize costs, and later disappointment, I recommend having a go on someone else's loom first, perhaps a weaving and spinning group, just to see what sort of weaving you feel drawn to. The warp threads have to be strong and resilient, therefore they are best bought. Hand spun is just fine as the weft. You will need a warping frame and know how as to calculate and get all of that together on to the loom, threaded up and so on. This is where the second big consideration comes in. Many people who weave at home are very happy sticking to plain weave or a simple twill pattern, yet, if you become really involved in weaving and wish to expand into more adventurous weave textures and double cloth designs such as "summer and winter", then you will need a loom with at least six to eight harness, pedal floor loom type. Floor looms, where your feet lift the the harnesses that carry some of the threads are far easier if you are weaving any lengths of fabric. Third big consideration is, for what purpose do you wish to create fabric. Knitting is self explanatory, yet weaving takes things further where perhaps sewing, and garment design come in. Most home weaving is heavier in construction and therefore makes thicker cloth. I do not wish to put you off, far from it, weaving can be very addictive, and has a strong mental calculation component which is wonderfully challenging. Not only that, the fun you can have playing with colour and textures is amazing. If you have the space, the where with all, and local learning facilities (because there is a lot to learn to weave well), and you have a real purpose for what you create, then just dive in and enjoy every second.

  • So good to spend time with you again, Nicole. When you have a moment, could you add a link to Sarah's channel? And cannot wait to see what you make with those beautiful yarns from the show. I am a weaver and highly recommend getting a loom. If you have space, I would go with a floor loom - very grounding and there is something calming about the rhythm of throwing the shuttle and using your feet to work the treadles. Happy to chat with you if you want.

  • I especially enjoyed your nature at the end. It reminded me of the Bible verse...Faith hope and charity and the greatest of these is charity, ie love. We have faith in God and just believe he takes care of the big things and still the spring comes, hope, as you said look closely and look up as it's there if you slow down and take joy in the simplicity of life. Love, the greatest, we are surrounded by our loved ones, near and far, those who love unconditionally as Jesus did. Our greatest comfort is love. I went through the most horrible year. Every single day my 2nd son who is teenage sat with me on the couch and just played funny cat videos. It wasnt the video, it was his faithfulness each day. Small things. Big hugs from N. Ireland xx

I could always hear the love in your voice when you spoke of him. Loved hearing about your favourite yarns shared by your guest today. A few just happen to be mine as well. I’ve always wanted to try the Alice Starmore. It’s fun watching you trying a new craft… it’s looking lovely. A table runner would be gorgeous. One question off topic… is there a pattern for the “linen” type top you were wearing? I love the lines on it. 🥰

I’m an upstate New York, USA , fiber producer for the past 22 years. For most of that time, I have used Custom Woolen Mills to spin my wool. Such nice people! They do an amazing job. Sadly, in the mills renovation and update, they have increased their minimum amount of wool needed for processing and I am struggling with that. These people were like family to me. • really enjoy your podcast Nicole. And as 'mom" to 4 fur babies, I send my condolences. Each dog we let into our hearts finds their own special place. I have a question though about the song you sing in the opening. I still retain a bit of my French but cannot quite understand all the words. Could you put the words in your notes? Thanks, and keep up the gentle knitting. I do hope that you find another dog. One does not replace another, but in my experience each dog is a lovely soul that would love nothing more than to share your world. They give back so much more than they ever ask of us.

  • I have been watching out from early March for a new podcast from you and am really glad to see you are back. Hope you are in good health and will continue to so throughout the year. So sad to hear that Marcel had to leave you. It brought tears to my eyes as we too had to part with a much loved dog of a similar age and for very similar reasons on the last day of the year. Enjoyed listening to you and Sarah and seeing all the lovely garments. Thank you so much.

  • I absolutely love the Hawthorne Tincture shawl - I can’t wait to make one. I also love your poufy sleeves, they are very pretty.

  • So happy to see you back. Sending condolences on the passing of Marcel. I really enjoyed this "top" yarn segment. I have a fond place in my heart for each of your yarns! I really miss Rowan Scottish Tweed - that was a great yarn back in the day. Peace Fleece and Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair are wonderful wooly wools. Even Cascade 220 for affordability, crisp cables and hard wearing. Oh gosh I could go on and on! Happy knitting!

  • When I saw your post about uploading this video my heart leapt! It is so wonderful to see you again after some much needed time off. Losing a dear baby is never easy, it took my husband and I 6 months before we felt we could be ready to open our hearts to a new family member this winter. She has brought us so much joy, and reminded us how much light and love our first girl brought to our lives. Marcel is so loved and his memory will be cherished forever🖤

  • Very sad to hear about the loss of Marcel. I too lost my knitting companion in November last year and I've found it very hard. Pets are so special but knowing we rehomed them and gave them a wonderful home makes it all worth while. Take care and I hope your making brings you comfort.

  • Oh Nicole! Such a beautiful episode. I’m so inspired by your Hawthorn Tincture shawl. ❤ What a sumptuous colour. It will go well with your colour palette and I want one, too! ☺️ A big hug from the Yukon. Thanks for the visit!
