Super informative, easy to understand and best of all, STRAIGHT to the POINT! A lot of us have 40+ hr/wk jobs and do home projects on evenings & weekends, which means very little spare time, so discovering a KZheadr who is able to cover several critical points quickly and eloquently is an incredible gift! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the praise. I'm just happy it could help you.
Fantastic. As someone who’s about to buy their first mitre saw, this is gold. You may have saved me from hurting myself, you’ve definitely saved me from making scrap wood. Also, style of video is fantastic, straight to the point, no messing
Thank you. There’s a lot to unpack there! At 63, I think my hand-sawing days are over.
Didn't even think about the dado cut using a miter saw, great tips I thank you sir.
New subscriber here. Just bought my first mitre saw for jobs around the house (age 62). These tips were very helpful and I’ll feel more confident making my first cut today with my new machine.
Excellent! Great tip at 4:30 relief cut on stop block so saw dust does not affect the cut accuracy. 7:30 great tip on shaving so can sneak up on the perfect cut.
Wagner makes a portable pro up "tent" foot small painting projects. It has a back panel that hold a 20x20 hvac filter inside and a box fan outside. With a little ingenuity it firms a nice hood for a miter saw. Use a small vac for the dust port in the saw. The combo massively reduces the dust going all over. The tent for up into a small bag like a auto windshield sunscreen.
Thank you so much!! Just beginning with a miter saw
Excellent video for beginners. THANK YOU!
Great stuff. About to make 100 parquet fingers and the ‘stop block’ is going to save me lots of time! Thank you 🙏
The Rabbet cut is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Just bought my first miter saw - thanks for the video. That was informative and straight to the point. You may have even saved me a finger or two! 😂
He's even calling it by the right name. Miter saw. I read posts where people talk about their "Chop Saw" and it really bugs me. I live in WA state and I don't recall the word "Chop Saw" ever being used in woodworking at all, by anyone, until the last 10 years or so where the internet seemed to make the word synonymous with miter saws.
Thank you very much for all the tips. I work with table saws but a mitre saw is new to me and these tips help a lot.
I learned a lot, and I’ve been using one for years
They should incorporate a vice to the saw to hold the piece of wood to keep it from moving that would be a great addition to the saw I think
Thank you so much.. this was very helpful.. i brought my first miter saw.. thank you again for this tips
thank you! I'm new to the hobby and got my first miter saw. I respect the awesome power, but haven't been around power tools like this before. So i'm a little nervous. But i figure as long as i keep my fingers away from the blade, should be good.
Really cool tips. Might never use one but the information you give is good and your interesting right to the point. Love from Scotland 🏴
I've seen a lot of these videos . They seem to have one thing in common, the saw is stationed too high up. You never want the bed of the saw to be higher than your bellybutton. Reason is, your looking over the work piece instead of at it. This gives your face the most protection from anything flying out of that saw. Also, you have better wrist control on the work piece, being able to push the piece down onto the bed, instead of holding against the back stops with just your fingertips. This is just safety talk, stuff I've learned the hard way over 30 years,
That’s the right positioning for actual use, but it’s not as useful for videos - where usually you want to see the tool and the face very clearly.
Chicago Union Carpenter 22 years...your presentation and information are 100% right on! Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
I really like these little tutorials for beginners.
Just got my first miter saw! Excellent tricks and pro tips in this vid. Thank you!
I bought my first miter saw today. I have been wanting one for so long. Thank you for all the helpful tips!
Same here, two years later (2023). I've used them plenty of times for very simple straight cuts. Just never owned one or set one up. I'm grateful for all of the safety and practical tips I was aware of.
May I ask guys is this only for short side cuts? Or you also can cut long pieces in long cuts pushing wood in blade cut in middle line of one meter cut. thanks.
I think you are referring to rip cuts. You won't be able to do a rip cut on a miter saw. @@georgiosladas3106
Tip #17 was exactly what I was looking for help with, great idea! Excellent video for a new miter saw owner! Thanks so much!
Man am I glad I saw this (and rewound it frequently during the video). Just bought one of these and only watched a couple of reviews and went to work! Fortunately, the small piece of wood that I was trying to cut, while pushing it with a slightly longer piece, missed me as it was propelled from the saw (and slightly damaged the plastic at the slot)! Something told me to watch a few more videos today before moving on to the next project, and as stated before, I’m glad I came across this one! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks much! this was super super helpful - especially the zero fence & rabbit cuts!
Thank you, very usefull. I have been a DIY enthusiast for over 50 years but am only getting my first mitre saw today. Looks like the moveable work stand might be my first project! Appreciate your advice and ideas.
Thank you for so many tips! Recently bought a compound sliding miter saw. A friend who is comfortable using a miter saw came over to get me started on ceiling, floor, and door trim work last week. More to come and your extra tips are appreciated.
Thanks so much. I appreciate having the basics. Helps so much
Thank you!!! I could not figure out what my problem was and it turns out, I had multiple problems hahah!
This is perfect for me. I’ve never used a mitre saw and have a few projects I want to do around the house. This was so helpful. Thanks
Thanks for this, it's really useful and very well put together and presented. I'm not by any means a beginner at DIY but I'm contemplating buying my first mitre saw (I'm in the UK and we have that odd way of spelling it 😄 ) and this is all food for thought.
Thank you, useful tips, you are the first to mention depth adjustment!
This is a great refresher on how to do things safely as well.
So helpful thank you!! Made my island countertop and I'm adding the Ideal Edge which will need to be mitered. KZheadrs like yourself have made this project 100% successful and saved me a ton of money :)
This was awesome! Thanks for the outtakes 🤣😂
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. My wife just got me a 7 1/4 Kobalt single bevel miter saw for Christmas, and I'm not much of a wood worker. Just something for small projects around the house.
Just got a mitre saw for the first time. This video was excellent. Feel really confident about using the saw now. Thank you. 😊
Great video my dude! No faffing around just straight to the tips and simply explained. Nice one 👍

Great Tips for Beginners. I am just starting using a Mitersaw and am so happy that I found this tutorial.
Excellent video! Thank you so much!
Nice job. Glad to see you put in the eye protection at the end. Would like to see it at the beginning.
I just found your KZhead channel. Thank you for a great video. I just received a new miter saw, so your videos are very useful. One tip to add to your Safety pointers -- Seriously consider wearing a high-quality dust mask while sawing, as breathing the very fine wood dust in the air can be very bad for your lungs, especially if you do a lot of saw work. Years of using your saw without wearing a dust mask can add up to extremely serious permanent health issues.
Especially if you are cutting pressure-treated wood, e.g. for a deck...
This was so helpful. Thank you!
Instead of using the pencil & eraser use a 12" or longer 1 by board to lay on the one edge and flat on the table. You will be able to hold it firmer and safer in-place and your hand will not be so close to the blade if for some reason the pencil or the project piece should move. Enjoyed the tips! Thank You and keep up the good work with these informative videos. Sometimes it is good for the seasoned woodworker as well as the new ones to go over and be reminded of safety procedures. Blessings my friend!
Good tip, thank you
Thank you for making this video. It helps me for sure.
I stumbled upon this video & loved it.. so many good basic tips I never knew..Thankyou!!

This video gave me more confidence in buying this type of saw. Thank you. Subscribed.
Great tips. I did not know some of them. Thanks for your knowledge
Awesome! Thank you so much for your exceptional tips. Much appreciated
Often when working with small pieces of wood I find that using masking tape to lengthen the piece is a quick and safe way to cut even the tiniest parts. The tape will also protect the wood from splitting,
Thanks for some tips . From Liverpool UK
Brilliant tip collection! Thanks!
Until you put your miter saw on a cart, while still manually moving it around, definitely resist the urge to lift and carry it using the trigger handle. That's a sure way to put the blade and/or bevels out of alignment. Instead, pick up the saw by the base or the extension wings. Most miter saws have low-tech metal extension wings intended to support work pieces. They're usually just metal brackets that insert into holes in the side of the base. Since they're not precision attachments, it's okay to pressure them one way or the other.
Very good tip! Thank you Chris
You Are Awesome!!!! Thank You!!!! I Use Extra Wood & Clamps For Small Cuts(2x4 Block).👍😎😃

A lot of great easy to understand information, thank you!
I just bought the 10'' double-bevel Evolution mitre saw like yours last week... I LOVE it...very clean cuts & the preset angles seem to be bang on... first little test piece I made was an octagon using 8 pieces of 2" X 1" laid flat & glued 'em up... no gaps in the adjoining pieces whatsoever... A great saw for a fraction of the cost of the better known brands... From the Emerald Isle 😎👍☘🍺
I've has one a couple of years. Still going strong. I might change the blade out to a fine one when I can afford it
