Hi from Australia, I have been a heavy diesel mechanic for almost sixty years and the first thing that you learn is to clean everything BEFORE you pull it apart. It prevents any crap from getting inside while you work on it, and you hands and tools stay cleaner.
Spot on. I've been wrenching around for little more than 3 decades. Same, same. Even "restoration" projects, fancy name for saved from the scrap! The first thing they get is a decent bath. Including Q-tip cooling fins. LOL 😂 😂 I told many people if dirt, was any good for performance, efficiency, etc. All cars and bikes would reach us covered in OEM mud. ;-)
Here's one piece of advice, you should do the majority of your cleaning and blasting with the old seals and piston in place. This will help seal and protect the piston surfaces far more than anything you can apply.
Good point
that depends, they use a lot of salt on roads where I live, so the biggest problem with these calipers is the corrosion of the piston AND the seal seat in the caliper, so if it has corroded bad enough around the seal seat (and I mean the hydraulic seal, not the dust cover), then the caliper is scrap, since there is no way to clean that area, if you do a really thorough job, and perhaps use electrolytic rust removal (or chelating rust removal solutions), then grease to fill the rust pits when seating the seal and dust cover, then it might work for couple of years, but if water gets in, it will corrode and seize in a matter of months not sure what they make calipers out of these days, but I don't recall them rusting this bad 10-15 years ago, just had to repair a caliper on my 7yo VW that seized on me suddenly, dust cover was intact, but when I pushed it off, revealed heavily corroded piston, chrome flaked off etc, and visually, there seemed to be very little chrome on the piston compared to cars made back in 1990ties and they talk about sustainability and green etc, and produce these cars that are junk in less than 10 years...
@@dsfs17987 sustainability talks is a joke... the only thing that matters for the BIG fellows is profit... and that's why they make your car last maximum a decade... 🤮🤬
Outstanding work! Your explanation of all phases of the rebuild is very easy to understand! I was a pleasure to watch such great work! Thank you for posting.
You are like the Polish version of ChrisFix! Good tutorial and I love the home-made sandblaster - definitely going to build one for myself. Dzięki!
Thanks, I really appreciate it ;)
"Like so" ;) would bet Ive heard that before... - Driven By Madness ;)
Buen trabajo 👍
Great video. Also I can tell English probably isn't your first language but you spoke so clearly. Thank you for your hard work. Good job sir.
This sandblasting box is amazing!!!
Very clear and detailed video without unneeded talks.
I was able to rebuild the 2 front calipers for my VW after watching this video, the part about putting the dust cover on the cylinder was particularly helpful, I'm sure it would have taken me 3 times as long if I had not watched. Again Thank you very much for the helpful tips contained in this video Thanks / Ed
You remind me of Peter Cetera
Not every aspect of life needs a soundtrack...love the tutorial 👍🏻
wowowoowo is so very nice you are good .
I agree ? Soundtracks are generally annoying.
Great job. I like sandblasing box 😊
Łoo panie kurła, co za geniusz z tą komorą do piaskowania. Biegnę do szwedzkiego sklepu kupić sobie 😜
I always replace the calipers... never knew it was this easy. And it looks brand new! Thanks for a nice and easy guide :)
it looks easy, we always repair them, because the repair kit is 1/10th of the price of a caliper, but when something goes wrong or it's not repairable( very rare cases, because of wear) we have to buy a new one. in some cases the pushing mechanism of the handbrake gets destroyed when the piston is siezed and you try to remove the piston, we can't get a replacement kit for the interior parts.
Yep. That's right. Where "rebuilt" calipers are available. They pass trough a similar process. Of cleaning, rebuild and re-sold. Quite honestly virtually "as new". In what the end client is concerned. Totally worth.
its bether replace all caliper then take a crap part and ruin all job :D
I leave the piston and seal in the caliper until I have sandblasted the caliper.Save taping and makes it easier to clean up.No chance of getting grit in bore.Very good video.
Always struggled getting the dust cover on....now I know how!
Love the sandblasting box
Thanks for the very good video, we need another good one for the sandblaster.
thanks for a great show, also you speak well as we can hear English is not your mamas tongue nor mine either. bravo to you Sir
Very well done video with good clear description of the job. Thank you.
That is an awesome caliper work man!!! Thanks.
Nice video really easy to see what you were doing!
Great video, nice pace, very informative AND entertaining!
Za piaskarkę masz plusa chłopie, pozd.
well done mate, i'm planning to refurb the genuine BMW calipers i replaced with OEM recently and refit.
Congratulations on a good video! The greatest point is the DIY sandblaster box! Please do a video on it! On the less than good parts, please let me comment on your use of too much high-temperature grease on the piston seals. I believe that it is better to just use new clean Brake Fluid to assemble the piston seals, as any grease will contaminate the brake fluid. In respect of the many comments saying not to use grease on guide pins, my experience is that pins MUST ALWAYS be well lubricated with high-temperature grease because it is the design of a FLOATING CALIPER! If NOT well greased, one is certain to end up with very different wear on the internal vs external pads, a less than good pad retraction and more noise! That is the reason to use rubber sleeves with caps! Just do not over grease them to prevent ANY grease to migrate to the rotor or pads. The sliding contact points on the pad backplate must be also lubricated with Hi-Temp grease, but not more than a match-head blob of grease will suffice.
Thanks :) As you said, everything goes straight to the point Regards :)
Superb, I never managed to sort the seal and now I see where I was going wrong. Very helpful thanks
Yep, the outer part of the seal is held in place by the piston so unless it's set correctly you'll never get it in!

oh am I happy to see a K2 product on youtube 😍😍😍
superb! well done great job and looked very satisfying to do 👍👍
Good job man, greetings from Italy
real nice complete job...Well done....
Thank you! And please do a video about making the sandblast box.
Take a big transparent plastic box and cut 2 holes for your hands, then use long rubber gloves.
You clean work earned you my subscription and, of course, a big fat thumbs up!
Oh aye, let me just whip out my compressor and sandlbaster. Good simple and informative video bud.
He did point out that you can: 1. Pull out the piston with a clamp (with some effort) 2. Use sandpaper and a steel/wire brush instead of a sandblaster (will take about an hour per caliper) There is no need for expensive tools, though they make the process much easier and faster obviously.

What man even changes oil and doesn't have an air compressor? Like 4 real?
u can put caliper into acid leave it over night and its clean then just let it dry on sun and you are good to go
@@bufordmaddogtannen5164 Brave of you to assume I change oil. Auld boi.
DIY on that sandblasting box. Very nice Job!
It was indeed a nice bonus to the video!
Clear explanation. Great video. Subscribed.
Beautiful. Great and clean job.

Very nice job. very good video. Nice work with the sanding box.
AMAZING!!! Wow!!
Your sanding box is AWESOME idea!!! totally going to build one for myself
+1
Great instructions
Dang dude?. ... You're AWESOME!! Two thumbs up, GREAT video!
Excellent job👍
Thanks for the video!
Very useful video mate , congrats
Many thanks for doing this and really good film, and all credit to you. Instead of compressed air at 3.26, I used a stirrup bicycle pump to get the piston out. I used the Schrader end over the bleeder valve which fitted the bleeder valve end and which was partially open to allow air in And covered the other end with my thumb Pumped the stirup biciyle pump and the piston came out
Haha that's awesome.
A Superb video Mate. Fantastic workmanship. An Inspiration for my 1970 Cortina mk2 Caliper rebuild which i plan to work on soon. 👌
Bellissimo lavoro!

Very good! You could prime the caliper before painting it and you could grease for the bleeder screw thread.
Excellent 🧨
Thanks a lot! Big help!
Fantastic and amaizing Job

Excellent job, it would be interesting to see how long the paint will last 👍.
Chris Bailey did mine with hammeriitr smooth 6 years and still looks like new Car is on my channel brakes can be seen 1993 Golf GTI with audi s3 engine and brakes
@@kells77 That's amazing, never would have thought to use that paint, in case it set on fire. I'll give it a go next time, cheers👍
Chris Bailey if u look on my channel in the videos of my black golf the gearbox is also painted in hammerite ( spray version ) The finish is like a power coat once done and very good I also did the rocker cover agian this has been on 10 years and still like new - gets very hot too no issues at all Another brand to use is the rustolium paints
Good Job Bro.
Fantastic!
This is awesome. Great job. Where did you get the rebuild kit? Cheers
Great job. The finish colour is the natural colour of the bracket after you sandblasted it and you just lacquered it?
Thanks
Top job
nice job..that's the way to rebuild a caliper
That’s what they used to do years ago. But not no more. These days all garages prefer to just scrap your old calliper. And replace with new. Costing you a small fortune.
Congratulations!!!
woa! Great job
