Is he's the one that's *influenced* modern classics! To come on trend. Technically through his influence he's unironically changed back his own demographics to viewer's wanting old cars.

  • That rear console could have come from any of the Big Three American automakers. Carroll Shelby's history with Ford is obviously well known. He had the Dodge/Mopar relationship, as this video and the Shelby Daytona demonstrate. And, at this time, he was also building the Shelby Series 1, which was largely composed of GM parts (Olds 4.0 v8, GM switchgear up the wazoo). I guarantee, Bro was boys with every janitor and security guard in Detroit - anything to get him into any warehouse, storage closet, or parts caddy he might need. Total legend. American hero.

  • Slight correction.... when the durango came out in 1998 it had either a 5.2 V8 or the 5.9 V8. The 4.7 wasn't available until 2000. Also kind of funny is in 1999 ONLY they offered a 3.9 V6 but only on 2wd models.

  • It's weird how they went like 98% of the way there leaving out just a few bits. Such as not just making the hood vents functional (or at least marginally functional by at least being actually vent holes), and skipping a few trim pieces with the carbon fiber replacements (window/lock controls on the door, and the map light area at the top, are a few I noticed). Also Doug mentioning the octane knock warning sticker but not mentioning the quirkier related item right below it. The actual like... Knock guage system that measured knock from low to high (as if any is acceptable). I also would have liked to know if it was RWD or AWD/4WD. Durangos had an option for either, but would have been interesting to know if this version was only offered in RWD. Either way a pretty interesting vehicle. It wasn't even "fast" for the time with a 7.1 0-60mph time. A stock Grand Prix GTP of the same era would do 0-60 in 6.6 for example (and that's not a limited edition, or directly sport focused vehicle). Definitely fairly quick for an SUV of the time though, and the more impressive part is probably the massive brake/suspension upgrades, as well as the interior changes. I feel like they could have went the extra 2% more with getting at least a little more power out of it, as well as finishing out those extra details. Then it could have done the part, instead of just looking it. Still it's really a cool vehicle, and this one is definitely a time capsule version.

  • Love these first gen Durangos so much. This and the Jeep ZJ 5.9 are truly peak 90s SUVs imo. Rugged, utilitarian, AND fast. It’s extremely wishful thinking, but I wish Stellants would someday build a modern Durango on a shortened RAM platform instead of a crossover. Make it a real SUV again. While they’re at it, they should give the JGC its straight axles back too.

    @atodaso1668@atodaso166814 күн бұрын

    • You seem to not understand how Shelby works. They're a massive manufacturer. You keep talking about Dodge wouldn't have made this and that. Dodge made the base of this thing, nothing else. Shelby buys 300 of them then designs and makes (or has made) all the upgrade parts. The center console wouldn't have been in a Dodge, you wasted your time looking for it. Shelby bought 300 of them from an aftermarket company, it's just a random generic van front seat console.

  • Back in the 90s I had a 94 Supra TT , Black with No Wing, with a few mods: downpipe, turbotimer, greddy exhaust, nothing major, but it went pretty good! I was on a pretty empty Toronto neighbourhood street around 11am and was approaching a Stop Sign when a Blue Dodge Dakota (The truck version of this ^^ SUV) pulled beside. We both looked over and decided to GO! All I saw was Truck Bed and License Plate! It was one of the fastest trucks I had ever seen. It just hooked and quietly fcked off! When we got to the next light he told me it had the 5.9 but with a Turbo Kit he put together running 18 pounds of Boost. His BOOSTED V8 wrecked my I6 TT. LOL!
