It’s time for Atlas to pick up a new set of skills and get hands on. In this video, the humanoid robot manipulates the world around it: Atlas interacts with objects and modifies the course to reach its goal-pushing the limits of locomotion, sensing, and athleticism.

    • last year I repented to God then begged for help, "I was an Atheist." I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed because I never read the bible", and the love I felt from Jesus when I held him in my arms was unlike anything I've ever felt before - A lifetime of joy every second - It brought me to sobbing and it changed my life, forever. I've had other miracles since, a Few being a light turning on in answer to deeply needful prayer over a Dozen times, seeing a orb of light pass across my face hours before a major surgery, seeing an Angel in a dream the night my mother prayed for me to see one, "Without telling me", and So much more. Know that God and Jesus ARE real and that they love us deeply. Let go of your hatred and Imagine yourself holding the people who've hurt you. Tell them you love and forgive them and I believe we should do our best to follow the 10 commandments. Always have hope, I believe Love Is The Answer.

It looks instantaneous in real time but you can clearly tell in slow-motion that it’s gradual with no edits made. Same with the flip, it just flicks the bag backwards.

    • @@user-eu7hk7mv9j Absolutely positively not. I reviewed the video a few times. Another area of interest is the robots feet throughout the video. They had a very VERY slight glitchy-ness to them. It's particularly clear when the robot jumps from box too box. Furthermore, these guys have made lower quality versions of the robots doing things as well. It's obviously intentional. By having videos with super high quality animation and then others which are obviously fake, you can play it off as if you're just parodying the "real" videos.

(Example .1 at the 30 second mark right as the bot grabs the tool bag off the ground the right side of the tool bag very quickly changes and gains a very noticeable crease along the side that emphasizes a now visible shadow along the underside of the now prominent crease. It jumps from one shot of the bot approaching the bag to when it starts to manipulate said bag. Example .2 just before the bot hands off the bag as it walks from the plank to the first scaffolding platform, the bot casts no shadow while making it's way to the recipient of the bag and once again casts no shadow when walking to, jumping 180 degrees to toss the bag (the physics of the bag are off as well as it has extra hang time in the air [a bag heavy enough to make the bots "hands" shake just before the throw but light enough to hang in the air to make several revolutions just before landing]) and landing back down on the second scaffolding platform again without interrupting the sun rays coming through the window directly next to the platform. Probably not entirely produced but this footage definitely has some movie magic going on.) Very cool anyway; the technology will be truly perfected soon enough. • @@dougaltolan3017of course it could have been totally accepted. You knock the box over a few times, mark it's position and have the robot land so that it would have been successful for every time it was knocked over. That motion and gravity are going to have a pretty easily predictable location. The box wasn't randomly thrown, it was pushed over to fall a very short distance with a very flat and predictable landing. EASILY SCRIPTED.

    • @@DeepDeepEast Yeah. some of it is definitely scripted. A robot wouldn't just do a backflip for no reason. It's to demonstrate specific capabilities, in the case of the flip, two axes movement. There's a behind the scene video that talked about what's scripted in the scene and what's not. For example, the robot was only given a general area to look for the utility bag, it has to scan the area, identify the bag, figure out how to pick up the bag and pick it up anticipating the weight. Each one of these steps require some kind of algorithm / AI. The run up part is all scripted. But that part is showing off the physical capability of the robot, running across that narrow plank smoothly is something that many humans can't even do (or are afraid to do) When it tosses the bag up to the worker, it has to adjust the force applied to the weight of the bag, to make sure it lands at the right spot, without hitting the worker. Then after that it's just style points.

    • I don’t think that process is actually complicated enough to need custom written code behind it. PID loops are very good at getting motion control applications to move incredibly smoothly. That whole process can be accomplished within a dedicated control board contained within the servo actuator. The only information or code it needs is where to position the actuator, and the control loop will handle itself, though the terms would probably need to be manually tuned before running a program reliably, and the programming environment would need to be mature enough to prohibit impossible commands (like say, attempting to move an arm 180° instantaneously -among other things.)
