You probably are being watched. Mining is and was the most dangerous profession next to rough neck oil rig work on oceanic pipelines. But the amount of people who died in mines throughout the years, be it from underground fires trapping miners or falling to your death after working 16+ hour shifts. Then there's equipment failure, or accidents in general. Cave- ins and death from miners getting getting black lung from the coal and ash depending on what they were mining.

That was something with front facing glowing eyes standing up... it's one of those pale humanoids that comes out of caves at night, it has tapetum lucidum for night vision. Yeah it's fake and all but I think the reaction is what makes it at least somewhat believable, I mean let's say this was real. They have steel guarding the entrance giving them enough time to get a decent distance, and for all they know the thing didn't see them only heard them. Screaming would just alert the creature that you saw and are terrified of it.

That was something with front facing glowing eyes standing up... it's one of those pale humanoids that comes out of caves at night, it has tapetum lucidum for night vision. I've been here and I've seen the creature that makes this scream. It is actually quite large (170 kg) and resembled a Silverback gorilla which didn't seem to be very fast. Of the four times I've visited only once did I see this creature. AMA

Yeah it's fake and all but I think the reaction is what makes it at least somewhat believable, I mean let's say this was real. They have steel guarding the entrance giving them enough time to get a decent distance, and for all they know the thing didn't see them only heard them. Screaming would just alert the creature that you saw and are terrified of it.
