    • Give me a break. Ukraine is sovereign independent country that can do whatever it wants. Russia which has one of the largest armed forces in the world and the largest nuclear arsenal in the world has nothing to worry about. The justifies what Putin has done in invading Ukraine. This is a war of choice for that facist.

    • It worked reasonably well for Finland. The younger generations abhorr of those times, but they erroneously judge it without taking into account the context and hard times in all the WWII postwar world. It allowed it to remain independent and self governing, and not be occupied, like the Easter EU countries, although it was forced to sign a Mutual Assistance and Friendship Pact with Moscow . CIA Memorandum for the Director. Subject: Finland. Between East and West, released in 2005: "... ... [Finland's] policy gave first priority to the necessity for correct, friendly and cooperative relations with the USSR while keeping its ties with the West ... became associate member of the EFTA in 1960 ... This Finnish success story was due in large measure to deliberate Soviet policy. Moscow calculated that it had much to gain by retaining Finland as a showcase" to the world, and as an example of how two countries with conflicting social systems and disparate power can co-exist side by side. ... the Soviets have restrained from openly bullying the Finns in fear that such moves would cause certain countries, particularly Sweden, to move closer to the West ... ...."

Russia is growing faster economically, and it is not plagued by the woke agenda of socialism we in the west are suffering from. Time to wake up, our enemy in the West is not Russia but our own government that oppresses us with high taxation and loss of our standard of living as inflation makes it poorer by the day. This is not the 80s when the West were the good guys and the Soviet Union the bad guys, today we in the West are the bad guys.

I think these governments in the West are in for a day of reckoning, people will not put up with falling living standards and endless wars by our leaders, who are completely out of step with the people. This is not going to end up good for the West, we may see a reverse of the fall of the Berlin Wall when communist regimes fell, this time around we will most likely see western governments falling like rotten apples.

  • This war is and was totally unnecessary. When a large portion of your people is close to russian culture and people one should discuss around a table and not prepare war. The ukrainian leaders were not mature enough to handle such a problem.

  • Different US president doesn't change anything. That's not how US foreign policy is determined. The arms industry dictates-- sorry, "heavily influences" US foreign policy. If a GOP president is elected, they will make a deal with the arms industry to continue sending arms to Ukraine/funnel money to the MIC.

  • The day the Azov battalion was subdued and Mariopol fell is the day Ukraine lost the war. Bakhmut resistance was an attempted come back for Ukraine. It's fall sealed the fate of Ukraine. Weapons deliveries and personnel mobilisation will hardly change the battle outcome. Russia will re-draw it's western borders.

    • I agree boots on the ground is the answer, by trying not to escalate the war by avoiding direct confrontation with Russia, Russia only gets emboldened to take what it can since it sends a clear signal their troops won't be eradicated and no Russian land will be lost so what is there to lose except some Ivans yet so much to gain by taking it from Ukrainians.
