Seeing Selmar driving off made me remember the day he first got there, at the beginning of lockdown last year, and Stephanie wasn't expecting him and wondered who in the world was driving into the courtyard in that big camper. What a fortuitous arrival that was!

If you really like this year's cucumbers I would suggest saving the seeds from them for next year. That way you will be sure to get the same variety.
Wait until they turn yellowish before picking, this way you know that the seeds are at their fullest.
Not if they are GMO.
@@ocanadastandinguard6840 saving seeds from the crops from this year does not guarantee you will have the same kind of cucumber 🥒. You don't have any idea what that plant was pollinated with. People who truly save seeds like for heirloom varieties go through a lot to get pure seed. Hope this helps... Good luck.
@@ocanadastandinguard6840you can't buy GMO seeds for the retail market at all even in the USA and they are banned in Europe. You can buy F1 Hybrids but they are not GMO, they use traditional cross-pollination practices to get F1 hybrids which usually produce more crops because of hybrid vigour.

Good morning from Victoria, Australia. Your blgs have been an absolute life saver over the past months. I don't know if you have any idea how refreshing it is to start the day seeing what you and your wonderful lalanders get up to. I lived in France for 14 years until my husband died 3 years ago and my family thought it was time for me to return. However, my love of France has never waned. Philip is an absolute delight and so gentle. In fact all of the team are wonderful. So full of life and laughter. What a happy place so unlike outside your little world especially here where masks are still worn and you cannot see whether people are smiling or not. My day has only just begun but is already uplifted thanks to everyone there. I am an elderly person but so love to see you young people happy and laughing. Bless you all.

@@beciaaus2811 the only people on holiday are Selmar for the rest of the month and Stephanie and Philip just for this week. Anyone else that has left has gone back to their normal lives after volunteering.
Plus all the contractors will be back. Nick, some Ians, Dan, Kristie and others. I love when the French tradesmen are there.

I’m so glad you are making this renovation about living in this grand house you are making into a home again. Most importantly, your interiors are realistic and eye candy at the same time. The situation is once again changing so quickly each day...admittedly a worry wort, I'll be holding my breath until each of you returns safely home. Mummy's been gone for about 1 year now and I miss her so very much, I hope no one else gets stuck somewhere away for the the safe enclave of the chateau. Safe and Happy travels to all of you!!!
I have a great recipe for those over-sized and tough courgettes - we shred them and make a pancake like potato pancakes. For each 1 cup/250 ml of shredded squash, add: 1 egg, 1/4 c or 60 ml of instant potato flakes or breadcrumbs, 1/3 tsp or 1.6 ml salt, 3 tablespoons or 45 ml shredded Parmesan. Add onions and herbs to taste, drop this batter onto a hot, oiled skillet, flatten blobs into patties, cover the pan and saute until batter is set and brown on the bottom. Flip patties, brown the second side and they are finished. We serve them with marinara sauce. They make an excellent brunch.

Creativity, antiques, multi culturalism, shared purpose and loving acceptance for others. Who wouldn't want that kind of life. Who knew. I thought the sherer of the sheep was taking the wool. I have a niece who cooks, knits and weaves. I may have to pack the family up for a trip to England (to see relatives) and France next year. We can volunteer or book a weekend. Most of the hikers and runners of the family might also check out the clamping down the road. I want Roger's room. I can dream.

Kirsty so reminds me of the Vicar of Dibley ! I checked my thornless black berries today after ten days of rain and they are now ten feet high and I can now train them over the pergola ! Had to rip up and burn the dozens of tomatoes with late blight but made five big pots of chutney with the green ones that survived. I knew that this year was an experiment so I take it in my stride. xoxoxo

I agree that Ruby is so attached to Selmar but remember, he is staying with his Mum for two weeks for one thing but also, although I am a cat person, I get the feeling that it is easier to travel with a dog that is trained on a leash. Cats are free wandering (although there is a woman on my street who walks her cat on a leash. Mine would NEVER put up with that sort of behaviour on the part of a human!) and Ruby could easily be lost. So although I am sure Selmar is equally attached to Ruby and probably would rather take him with him, it is likely the best for everyone if he stays at home.

Lalanders- I worked at an antique store with very wobbly floors. We would use stacks of pennies (coins) to level the legs. They worked perfectly because they are small, round, and dark. They virtually disappeared once placed. Just a little tip from me to you!
Yes! I used to have an antiques shop and did the exact same thing. Also used pennies in the hems of curtains and swags to weigh the fabric down.

I've been waiting for this part of Stephanie's life. She's had many people come and go, but there's been overlap and a core 'family'. But this episode was bitter sweet, and showed that Stephanie and perhaps Nati are the only real constants at LaLande. I'm single and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but part of me wants both of them to announce they've found their perfect partner. A Pooh Bear said 'it's more fun with two'.
@Dan Ellis-Jones Yes Stephanie is the Chatilane (SP?) And Owner with Nick and Micheal Potts. Nati is the Manager of the B&B. Philip is PA or assistant to Stephanie per a patron who commented. Many others are contractors like Dan, the Ians and Selmar.
Davy is such a lovely gentle man. The Chateau is blessed to have him supporting the many different challenging projects. He is very knowledgeable yet humble. Come back soon Davy.

Get an abundance of drop cloth to protect future furniture purchase during storage. I hate bird droppings. Ahhhh! You can spray the drop cloth off with a high pressure hose. You don't want that in your washing machine or dryer - ever.
Not sure if the birds were at original storeage site or their carriage house. Plus they have peacocks. Their cars and anything left in the workyard for any amount of time is blessed. Lol
