In this video I'm making two ping pong paddles to go with a custom ping pong table we're building. The paddles are made from mesquite and Texas pecan, with walnut burl handles.
- Be on the lookout for an upcoming video showcasing how we built the ping pong table you see in this video!

Everyone in this comment section is either an admirer of his woodworking or a triggered table tennis player and I love it cause I can relate to both.

Love wood working and ping pong🏓
put tenergy rubbers on it.
FANTASTIC USE OF THE CAPTIONS, really unique way to use them. Love it
Beautiful work awesome videography thank you for sharing
Keep em coming!!!
Your videos (especially with the captions) have that Primitive Technology vibe to them. Love your work as well as your editing.
That's the best hand made paddles I ever seen . Great work .
Great work Andy! You are truly a craftsman.
I can't get enough of his shop, that band-saw is like looking at a old Model T. Love it
control: 4/10 spin: 0/10 finish 10/10
Only tt players would understand this thing
@@mithileshlokhande no even they wont. Trust me.
haha well played. At the end I was like "why on earth would you finish the faces underneath the rubber? Oh.... he's not adding any rubber."
But I think it would be in reverse Control: 9/10 Spin: 0/10 Spin reversal : 4/10 Finish : 5/10
@@phillipstai7204 he should make his own Sriver or Mark V :D
What a beautiful woodworking!
Beautifully made
beautiful work , so nice you use hand tools for things
Video: Hand made table tennis racket. My mind: this racket definitely cannot be used in public competitions.
Why not?
Made out of at least 85% natural wood? Check Faces thinner than 4mm combined? Check
@@cachorrolegal8156 I think it's because it needs some kind of competition aproved certificate.
@@johnnyandersson5622 No, that is only the rubbers, the blade has to be at least 85% natural wood and same tickness all the way :)
@@sindre1984 So, what happen if this is challanged by someone, do they cut the blade open?
I have to say first WHAT A SANDER!!! That thing is a beast....like the band saw! Great video, your editing is spot on and the whole transgression from beginning to end is superb!! Thanks so much for sharing and keep these videos coming....PLEASE!!!!
At least 3 times now, I make something at home that I wanted/needed. Then about 2 months later you post a video of the exact item that I made. Only difference is you make it a whole lot nicer than I do. I made some ping pong paddles sometime during spring break when I got bored at home. I didn't have wood enough to finish the handles so right now they are just flat boards in the shape of a paddle, but they still work fine.
Nicely done as always! Love your videos
Thanks!
Great video! Its really awesome to see the bandsaw up and running! Have you thought about adapting the incre tablesaw fence system for the bandsaw?
Very well done!
Wow... I'm interested to try that paddle you made. ...
I've never thought about using captions like that,I like it
Most people would press the easy button, myself included, and use a spindle sander to refine the shape, while you take the road less traveled and use hand tools to give it that handmade feel and look. Outstanding as always!
I have seen that before. Nice and so simple
What beautiful wood!
That was awesome!
Been watching it vids since almost the start, love the way that bandsaw works!!
Good project
You like woodworking, baseball, and table tennis. I do too. Probably in that order too, maybe swap WW and BB when white sox lineup is hitting.
Ahhhh this looks too cool!
Always a good day when I get a notification that Mr Rawls has a new vid.
Great video. When you make this good videoes - then you can make what ever you want. I would still see all of them.
be still my heart that band saw.
Cool ping pong 🏓 racket🎉
great vid!
Man you are amazing
Nice build and soothing to watch. Your shop is awesome! Now the paddles need a rubber or sandpaper surface so you can generate spin.
Just what I thought 🤔
2:55 that drop tho ;)
Satisfying the first time I saw it. Satisfying when I saw it again thanks to your comment.

Very nice
Hi, I loved your shop and the video making your own veneer to make the material for the paddles is probably the right way to go. my shop just made 4 hardwood ping pong paddles made of cherry and maple with walnut grips. mine ended up penhold style and were on the heavy side. going to have a video out on it at the end of the month. I loved this video and I subscribed to the channel thanks for sharing.
Ohhh, you DID make a ping pong paddle video! Ha! When I get a table, I’ll definitely want you to make me some!
thank you
Hey great work, congrats. What glue did you use to apply the veneering? That brown one Thank you for sharing! And once more, congratulations for the work!
Excellent !! 👍
That big old bandsaw has made me all gooey inside
Awesome!
Handmade plywood ! Why not eh ! I love that resaw fence. A fine pair of paddles there bud. !
Love it!
Nice shop. What a great place to relax. A few questions. What are the woods used to make the blade and the glue mix you use to laminate them together. On the handle it seems you used a simple wood glue instead. A beautiful product. Thanks for sharing.
I have never seen such original racket construction in my life and I have never had such a racket in my life. I wish you would send it to me if you made it original like this.
Love this idea. Def going to make some now lol
Good use of the captions ☺
Does this dude have a remote start for his planer that is like a huge woodworking flex
Artesanía y cariño en estas palas serán para toda la vida
É uma terapia assistir esses vídeos...fico perdido no tempo, rs
Was that a sneak peak of the Ping Pong table at the end? Great video as usual! By far my favorite woodworker! Everything you build is incredible! Thanks for putting out videos!
Justin Brandon Yes it was. If you follow him on Instagram, you'll get to see some behind the scenes stuff.

Is there any way I can start I wood making apprenticeship to learn how to work with wood like this? Really love all of these videos
Hey! I'm happy you used my suggestion of captions that I gave a few months back! And great video!
Wow the old band saw is spot on! Did you use Carter accessories for the blade alignment?
HE CALLED IT PING PONG!!!
JupyJones and?
@@tggfocus5911 I think of it to be disrespectful.I call it table tennis.
This racket might not even better than YE, however when it comes to handcraft, it means more than any racket that you could see on the market. Well done Rawls!
#Respect #Svaka ti čast na dizajnu.
What a great idea, I need to build a live edge ping-pong table & I gotta find a video on weaving my own net, lol
I built the ping pong table at the end of this video and it will be featured on my next video!
완전 최고의 장인!!!^^
The panamera 4s is one of the safest cars out there
Awesome 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Do you change blades on that bandsaw for resawing vs. cutting relatively tight curves?
The lighter coloring looks better imo but the darker one has an awesome pattern in the wood so I still favor it.
Hey Andy just saying your the best
Enjoying the work is more important.
Have you ever tried to work with old skateboards? They usually have really neat colored plys put together. If you go to a skateshop and ask if they have some used decks they will probably give you some for free. The skateshop i worked at had a huge stack of probably 100 old decks in the back room. We gave some to a guy that makes weird art. He made some super sick frames out of the old decks.
i luv how the handles turned out, is that walnut with mineral oil by any chance ?
Hey man, nice job! Now you can make a wooden ball too! :D
Love him.
awesome I liked this video
i want one!!!
yay
Big fan
Nice
Looks like a lot of work, how does Yinhe sell their paddles for $15?
bushed alatnya canggih2 bener
This is so awesome, you have inspired me to woodwork, and it has become a passion. Out of curiosity, how do you keep your chisels so sharp. I have a grinder but it doesn’t seem to get the anywhere near as sharp as yours. Maybe I am holding them at an incorrect angle?
I think the trick is to sand them with sandpaper using something like 100 and working your way up to like 7 or 8 thousand. The grinder is gonna be pretty rough and leave those little imperfections that take away from the sharpness.
You are a pro
Yay
What wood were used in making these blades? And how many layers?
Good
How many shots did it take you to hit the camera lense? Lol Excellent video Andy!
At least 10!! Thanks👍
wow. i love to have one of your racket blade. . .
Andy great video...loved it Try a wodden chess board
Could you tell me which glue was used for the layers al the beginning?
Andy excuse my ignorance for not already knowing this, but I'm curious. Did you already have a regular woodworking business, or did it spring up from your YT videos ? thx
can I get one like this? i love to keep one real solid wood table tennis blade. Its looks real cool
Saludos desde 🇲🇽❤
What an awesome bandsaw. If OSHA walked in they would have a field day on that unit.
Yeah it’s not very safe...
How much did the blade weigh before gluing the rubber sheets on. The one I play with is about 3 ounces. That is about 85 grams
Now all you need is the rubber pads that go on the paddles so you put spin on the ball.
I would buy these xD
Vamos Ginóbili!
Croquet set next. Hula hoop out of laminated strips? Badminton rackets.
All great ideas👍
Is the handle made of walnut?
wow
