  • My favorite part is at 9:13 when the loadmaster reached down and yanked that hook out of the way to stop him from hooking in the wrong hook and killing everyone.

  • Why don't they install a cable-periscope on submarines. You can have it float up from say 100 metres even. With a floatation device attached to the upper camera part, you can have it rise half a meter, or what not, above the surface. You can turn it and look around, scan the surface. Not as reliable or good as a regular periscope, but still.... you can scan the surroundings top side from a deep.

    • My understanding is that they already have an antenna cable that they can release to the surface so they can communicate with command while not revealing themselves. Also some subs have a towed array that they can deploy or retract behind the prop so they can track ships/subs behind them. As far as a “periscope cable” I’ve never heard of that, so it’s a good question, but with how much militaries around the world have spent streamlining and improving their submersibles, I find it hard to believe that someone hasn’t thought of it yet, and if they have, I’m sure extensive RnD was done and it was found out to be either not feasible or not practical. Interesting thought though, one I’ve wondered myself.
