  • My only critique of this performance was that Blaise created the expectation we would see a photo of Penn and Teller in performing in California. If he'd just asked, I'd like you to think of you're favourite state, outside of Nevada, then our expectations would have matched the reveal.

    @wilsonm.d6923@wilsonm.d69232 жыл бұрын
    • It's actually possible that is precisely what he was attempting to pull off, but his confederate sadly wasn't able to locate a photo of that performance, so he had to switch to a simpler trick. Hence what Penn said about "multiple outs". (This is pure speculation though; that could be referring to a number of things.) *If* that is what happened, that's a huge bummer. It wouldn't have fooled P&T ("too perfect") but it would've looked absolutely incredible for the audience.

    • Keep in mind: this is a TV *show* ! Alison talks a while with the magician and the producers just pick a few sentences into the show. Penn & Tell have some time to figure it out, then they describe their idea to the producers so that the producers know if they got it or not, and only after that, the "code talk" is done. I don't say it isn't impressive, just that they have a lot more time to come up with the solution and the respective "code" than the show might imply.

      @snygg1993@snygg19932 жыл бұрын
    • That's cool and all I agree. But that isn't that quickly. The TV show you see cuts around 10min of P&T talking to each other about how the trick is done and he is preparing notes how to say this. But yeah, sometimes its really hilarious haha

    • That's actually not impossible. I saw a version of this effect before involving a microphone, a confederate with a laptop, and a very small printer that was rigged up to print out a photograph directly into a wallet, which you'd then remove from your pocket, and hand to a spectator to open up and examine the photo. (In this case, a photo of that performance would have to be publicly available.) Truly amazing stuff if you set it up right, though that would never fool P&T because it would fall under "too perfect" (i.e. only one way it could possibly be done.)

The card trick is neat but drowns in words. Something fresh is needed. I guess the whole genre is being photoshopped out of existence now that we have real magic in our pockets.

    • it's magnets, that's what pen was saying at the end. he has seperate pictures for all the states that pen could have named and they all have a magnetic strip on them which he attaches whatever the card that was picked earlier was. It looks pretty shit on tv but no one in the audience would be able to tell.
