    • For the most part the US did. Sure we kept bases there but that isn't unusual for the US even with Allies we haven't been to war with and defeated. The difference post WW2 in Japan vs Germany is the US was in charge almost solely on post WW2 Japan. In Europe the Soviets, British, French, etc all got a vote on what would happen with Germany. For Japan it was 98% up to the US and Australia got a 2% vote. So Japan ended up with a new Constitution, new "friends" and became a global technology and manufacturing superpower in less than a decade.

The northern part was given to the soviet Union, USA occupied the central japan and southern japan was given to the UK and a island was also given to the chinese however as UK was broke after the war they gave their territory to the USA as it was getting too expensive for them specially when there economy was in ruins chinese also faced similar situation and handed their territory to USA and kept manchuria and stalin thought that Japanese were very anti- communist thus they also gave their territory to USA.

Even when we give examples like Western Europe compared to Estern Europe or Japan/South Korea vs India, etc all this is only form just a couple of dimensions especially the material one. ... These countries by the minute are losing their ethnicity, no matter what they say...A simple street in the city of Japan looks so like one in a western country, only and only the physical appearance of the people (with all respect) which is a mother nature's gift, only that makes them close to their ancestors, nothing else.... The amazing Eastern culture has always been a subject of abuse by western world... And we can see the richness depleting... I am not at all saying that India did good (we have our own complicated story) but it's true an Idiotic Effort is being made to color the whole world same, which for long run of Humanity is dangerous,...Diversity brings bit of challenges with itself (so are we afraid of little hard work?) but the fruit of extraordinary makes up for it. With diversity the culture is like a intricate, colorful tapestry or else it's just mass produced goods of same size. Don't we see how slowly and slowly the taste be it your clothes or food or automobiles or gadgets or anything you use is becoming so Damm same as every one. These cultural heritages of any country for that matter is not a simple social aspect but gives the unique soul to the people following and nurturing it.

  • Yes, very true. Germany and Japan are in a similar situation. Both countries lost the 2nd world War and have been ever since been militarily occupied by the US. It is common practice to demilitarize a country after defeat. In this case the US established military bases and politely dictates their foreign policy. I live in Germany and most people are not aware until the citizens don't agree with US policy and want to divert from US guidelines. Then somehow our politician always give in and comply to the US.

Djibouti is military base of many countries , Madagascar has a listening post of india and many african countries are bases to many others. Nowhere are they as closer. I think it required more explanation regarding other factors like economic integration , lurking threat of China and Russia to japan , no allies in its surrounding (even south korea is antagonistic to japan ) etc. So more exploration required in answering this

Just the difference is that, USA provides some level of sovereignty for the sake of it and they don't want global population to know about it just to keep up their good fame. Is this true?

    @Warhead_007@Warhead_0072 жыл бұрын
    • Not really. The US is based on banditry, just like Britain of the 19th century, for sure, but they go about it very differently. The US is based on consolidating bandits into one group in order to avoid competition between bandits. Immediately after World War II, the United States launched huge rebuilding effort in the countries they destroyed during the war. This is completely different from what happened after World War I, when the defeated nations were required to pay war reparations to the victors. In order words, the Axis powers lost the war militarily, but they achieved their primary objective for launching the war: gain access to resources and markets for their economic growth. This ensured that they fit neatly into the US alliance. Of course, the US did not extend the same "generosity" to those it couldn't absorb into the bandit alliance. The British, on the other hand, didn't believe in creating an alliance of bandits. They wanted to be the sole beneficiary of banditry and constantly battled other bandits, like the French, for supremacy.

Usa made provisions of US military bases on Japanese land, and forbid japan to maintain army. This may seem like occupation but this was in fact a symbiotic relationship between Usa and Japan USA got military bases to project power in Asia. Japanese people, who were very much oppressed by japanese ruler, got democracy, an open capitalist market, economic boom, access to USA market. Today 84% japanese see USA as a favourable country, thats even higher than how Americans see USA. If japan were occupied by usa, it explains the presence of military bases but how can the Japanese love usa?

    @user-oh6bu1vl4i@user-oh6bu1vl4i2 жыл бұрын
    • Yes I think that is true. Also, I have questioned the fact of continent creation. It is in favour of the West. But Asia is the most disadvantaged. As it has Russia, China, India, Middle East, all countries that deserved to be superpowers of their own and have their own continent because our culture is all so different. But we are all dumped together in a single continent Asia and they are having their own clean-cut continent where they are the superpowers. I think it is made in such way to produce conflict between the Asian nations for power. So that we keep on fighting against ourselves.

And also USA is bound to give Japan its nuclear umbrella, as Japan has hostile nuclear arm neighbor China, so if USA doesn't give protection then Japan will develop its own nuclear weapons which again USA doesnt wants

  • All NATO bound allies have close military connections with US. Some have bases in their countries. Another reason Japan is so close to the US is because of US aid that helped Japan rebuild after WW2. In fact in the 1980s Japan was about to overtake the US (like China is doing now), Republican senators started to protest (supremacist, neo-colonialists) and then came Plaza accords, which resulted in Japan allowing its currency to appreciate. I'm not convinced by the argument that it was because of US, that Japan stagnated, because the bank of Japan also made some big mistakes, such as lowering interest rates, to such an extent that a real estate bubble started to form. Which burst, when they increased the interest rates. From then on, stagflation has gripped the economy ever since. This is why I actually support China in the US-China trade war. Because when India rises to challenge the US, it will receive a similar treatment.

  • Japan was an ally of the US from 1860 until 1939 when the US unilaterally broke the treaty. The first treaty was called "Treaty of Amity and Commerce Between the United States and the Empire of Japan" ratified by US Congress in 1860, which was nominally a trade treaty, but with clear defense obligations. This was replaced in 1899 by "Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between Japan and the United States of America" which omitted the extraterritorial rights given to US citizens in Japan and restored customs autonomy to Japan in exchange for more open trade and more robust military obligations. When war broke out between Japan and China in 1931, the US did not want to participate on behalf of its ally Japan and unilaterally broke off the alliance.

  • Dude the US has bases in several countries via providing aid and giving them money to be in their country, so are you saying that every single US base, in all these different countries means the US is owning them? No…

    @jessejohnson5595@jessejohnson55957 ай бұрын
  • Since you asked the question "Does a sovereign nation ever allow a US base on their soil" ... yes of course they do and there are many. As an example there are a dozen or so US controlled bases in the UK ... a country the US hasn't been at war with since 1812. The real question you are purposefully avoiding is why a sovereign nation would allow the US to have a base on their soil. The answer is simple .. security. At this point in time there is only a single country that can be considered a true global power and that is the United States. No other country on this planet can project military force or political interest as much as the US can (72 hours and an entire US carrier battle group can be anywhere in the world just waiting for the order to send some city or country back to the 1800's). Outside of nuclear weapons, no other country has the ability to operate enough of a military force outside of their regional sphere of influence. Does China have a huge and mighty military? Yes they do but are limited to their region by capability. Same goes for Russia ... they're only a global power due to the nuclear weapons the failed Soviet regime left them but as they have shown in Ukraine are barely capable of sustaining a regional conventional war against a lesser trained and equipped home team. The US is in a class of her own. China and Russia are regional superpowers where the US is operating as a global hyperpower. No individual country or even the rest of the world combined at this point could challenge the US in a conventional war and have a chance of winning. Specifically with Japan post-WW2, we (the US) defeated them militarily but we chose to keep their emperor on the throne. We didn't defeat the people, we defeated their government. I don't believe that the Japanese people hold any malice against the US for ending a brutal war that they and Germany started. Best part is both countries turned out better after WW2 (well Germany did ok for a bit but much better after the Soviets let them reunify). And you're wrong ... actual US occupation of Japan (and Germany) ended in the early 1950's once new (democratic) civilian governments were instituted and able to self govern. You're making videos about where US bases are and assuming those countries are US occupied. Again a huge stretch and faulty conclusion based on the limited information you choose to present.

  • As a US tax payer I'd argue the occupational cost out way the benefit in terms of considering the US an "Empire." But it's debatable in terms of mutually beneficial stability in certain regions. In the roughly 50 years leading to the end of WWII Japan had been at war with virtually every country in that region. In their weakened state following it's conclusion it was probably in their best interest to stay under US "occupation" the same could be said for Germany. As a US tax payer who leans towards isolationism, the biggest mistake the US made was getting drawn into WWI(First world war). All we got out of that was a footprint to the great depression and the industrial military complex that needlessly prolongs wars to enrich investors, many of whom aren't even US citizens. If you want a really crazy theory. I'd argue if you look at the way the US has become entangled in wars beginning with WWI. The USA itself is just as likely under occupation. The only war I can think of in modern times where we should have acted like an Empire was the Spanish-American war. If the US had managed to fully control the Philippines and Cuba we likely wouldn't be dealing with many of the issues we're facing today. Instead it gave the military industrial complex excuses to bog down in other places with no real long term goal.
