  • It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

  • 1350 Miles in 24 hours in a 2018 Model 3 AWD LR. We got the call, my mom was in hospice, only a few days to live. After a couple of bad overnight drives, we have always stayed at hotel. We decided this trip warranted an over night drive. The Model 3 and the supercharger network performed flawlessly. The two things that stood out was autopilot and how comfortable the seats where for the passenger to sleep. We averaged 57 MPH. It was mostly in the Northeast and the Midwest, where the speed limits are 65-70 versus 75-80 for the race. The faster speeds might change the average speed.

  • Have you considered using the updated a better route planner (ABRP) and super charger info webpages? The best ABRP route planning for the Model S Plaid appears to be Beaver, UT (250 kW for 30 minutes), Green River, UT (150 for 21), Parachute, CO (250 for 13), and Edwards, CO (250 for 19). (83 charging minutes) In dire contrast, the Tesla Trip Planner suggests St. George, UT (250 for 15), Beaver, UT (250 for 10), Richfield, UT (150 for 25 ONLY 4 STALLS), Green River, UT (150 for 20), Grand Junction, CO (150 for 25), and Glenwood Springs, CO (150 for 55). (153 charging minutes). That is an extra 70 minutes of charging and 2 more stops (est. 20 minutes of driving time) using the Tesla Trip Planner. Clearly the Tesla Trip Planner is not ready for prime time trip planning.

    • It seemed like Colton had ABRP on his iPhone for backup but didn't deviate too much from Tesla's trip planning. Agreed on ABRP being pretty good when it comes to calculating charging stops. For me in an EV6 with no route planning, ABRP is a godsend.

  • Kyle....first off...THANKS SO MUCH!!!! for the content you create and what you do for the EV community. I love watching the Out of Spec channels and your content is very informative and entertaining. Second...I have an idea for you. Now that we have seen what expert road trippers can do in these cars, I think the public and I would love to see what would happen if this race was done from a different perspective. That is, making the same trip but doing as a Non-road tripping expert. Just punching in your destination and following the car's trip planner. Let's see how long it would take the car and the charging infrastructure to get just your normal Joe that knows nothing about EV road tripping to the destination and/or back. After all the goal of most, if not all, EV manufacturers is to make it as easy and simple to travel with these cars as possible. I hope you will consider my suggestion.

    @michaelbarbieri@michaelbarbieri9 ай бұрын
    • Unfortunately trip planning is a necessity for any EV driver. If you choose more budget options, some EVs don't even give you a competent trip planner at all (like E-GMP cars with Gen 5W infotainment system). The best solution I'd say is just to use ABRP (a better route planner) and not bother with most in-car nav or trip planning.

  • What a fantastic series guys. Incredibly educational and this is the kind of content that will really help with EV adoption in the future. EV companies need to downplay the “total range at 100%” number. I understand that marketing wise it is what ICE drivers understand but the usefulness of the driving distance on a 100% charge is interesting at best and misleading at worst. I hope they focus on and improve the overall charging curve of these vehicles. How fast my EV can DC charge from 1%-80% is a far more important metric than overall miles. The longer an EV can hold 250-350Kw during a charging session creates far more time savings on road trips than the extra mileage you may get one time off your 100% home charge. When I roadtrip in my EV I still never charge to 100% at home because I charge up as much as I need to to comfortably get to my first charging stop and then begin the charger hopping experience. I get that for serious road warriors stopping every 150 miles is not acceptable, but for those of us with kids and pets it’s hardly a sacrifice. I just want those stops to be 1) filled with reliable charging infrastructure that delivers the kw it advertises, 2) the car charging curve to accept that max power for as long as possible before massively tapering off (up to 70%-80% would be amazing), and 3) there to be some minimal amenities where we stop for food and bathroom breaks. Can’t wait for your next series like this.

  • No criticisms here, totally fair assessment of DCFC on that route. The only conclusions that can be drawn though is that with THIS particular style of road tripping (trying to make a trip in one day as fast as possible with minimal breaks) is that the Lucid and Taycan are within 6 minutes of a Tesla even with the bad charging infrastructure. Also most Tesla owners don't have free supercharger charging like you do @outofspecmotoring , so I think one must consider the big picture, that the Taycan is a super cool Porsche with better than EPA range but less comfort and space and range than the Lucid, and the Tesla is the tecchy noisy bumpy car that has great charging experiences but otherwise lacks the elegance and relaxation of the Lucid. So would most road trippers say "wow, I'll say forget the Taycan and Lucid cuz the Tesla won by 6 minutes"? I sincerely doubt it.

  • Entertaining content! But If these cars were so close in a 12hr race, then it doesn't matter in terms of which one is a good road tripper. All of these are good. Kyle was complaining about Lucid most of the time. But I would take the comfort of lucid any day on such long trips.

    • Kind of surprised me how good the Porsche did. I figured the Tesla would do better simply due to charging statons. Like significantly better. I'd take the Lucid myzelf. Hopefully they don't go bankrupt as for all intent and purposes I have read they are the better cars, but Tesla can pop out new cars faster with newer innovations. Now I want to see other EVs. Seen a new vehicle on the road a month ago. Didn't know what it was as the vehicle had a logo I've never seen, but it was an EV due to the acceleration, and looked absolutely sick. Turned out to be a Kia EV6 GT and I couldn't believe it. I detested Kias my whole life. Cars of uber woke college kids. Crap range, but it is ridiculously fast for the price. Yet I would buy it just cause it is supposed to be really fun to deive.

    • @dianapennepacker6854 The lucid had a pile of issues while they filmed this, crazy unreliable. Also Kyle needed an encyclopedia of knowledge on charges to keep it close. This is why Kyle said tesla was the best at the end.

The style of editing really helped us viewers experience what you three did on that epic day. I'd like to see a redux video and maybe do one with a $60k price limit. I'd so love to see the EV6 pitted against the Model Y.

  • Epic race, I'm from France and finally has the same feeling, tesla superchargers make your life so easy. I did 1200km in 2 days with a small model3 sr+ and it was a nice and smooth experience. Your 3 hours video required me to split the viewing in several times but it is nice to come back to it as soon as you have a break and enjoy that race. Good job... I was listening to the tires screaming on arrival, was really fun and suspens was there, I was even afraid of an accident occurring with these powerful cars... Take care, and once again, good job.;-)

  • Great video! Back in July of last year these were the three cars that were on my short list. Lucid was #3, Porsche was #2. The Plaid was my selection in large part because of the superior charging network. I've done 9,500 miles of road tripping since then, my longest road trip was 4,700 miles during Thanksgiving week, and not once did I have to wait for a charger. I don't know about the other cars, but the Plaid was so smooth and comfortable I've had four 1,000+ mile drive days.

  • Great race overall. I think maybe next race you guys should do a 2023 ID4 and a model 3 LFP race to Vegas. I feel like with the faster speeds of the ID4 it may stand a little bit of a chance against the model 3 LFP pack if the charging network is working well.
