56k dial up survivor here. Couldn't hide the internet connection in my house as the BT box used to give out a single 'Ding' as the PC sent it's handshake to the phone line. The day I had 256k ADSL put in at my house was a winner. Made all the difference playing Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam at the turn of the Millenium
good old dial up days, my first month I got a connection I paid 20 times more because of data rate. Now people exagerate with competitive games and dont have fun

Ok, these dial-up modem times are almost pre-internet. I remember how long it took to just download a picture on that old proto-internet. Back then we were still using the old 386 and 486 machines before getting to pentiums...

Gods Battlefield Vietnam was such a good game!
TOG II is the best tank in the game for a couple of reasons (1 & 2 are most important): 1. Tier 6 and mm+1, so you don't see all the BS with tier 8 premiums (yes, game got this much toxic lamo). 2. Excellent gun for the tier. Good dmg & pen, so very often you don't even need gold ammo (only for Japanese heavies and British & Polish TDs) 3. Enough HP to survive long enough to kills stuff. 4. VERY slow - which is its biggest weakness - but that means that enemy will focus on other tanks in your team cuz they will arrive faster. 5. HE & HEAT ammo nerf was a Huge buff for TOG II. KV-2 for instance is no longer able to hit you for 70 - 90% of HP, unless they are EXTREMELY lucky & will be allowed to aim for the side. Arty also seems to do less dmg (unless it is LeFHB2). 6. TOG II is the KING of reverse side-scrape (but it requires time to do).

I'm 30 years old. Growing up in my country, video games weren't as accessible as they are now. The only gaming consoles we had were imitations of SEGA and other big names. Those ''clones'' were incredibly cheap and didn't work half the time. In fact, I didn't even know about SEGA's existence back then. Everything changed around 2002 when GTA Vice City was released, and my mom bought me a PC from UK just so I could play it. Life in post-Soviet countries wasn't exactly fun for a kid like me....
Are you from Turkmenstan or something? I am 33 y/o from Mongolia, not actually soviet but was still a puppet of Russia. My parents used to run sega/sony cafe when i was 6. Few years later, PC came and kids were playing cs 1.3 and ra 2. Our country was and still is poor ass half nomadic country and yet we had gaming consoles before some cccp states? no way.

That steel wall medal reminds me of my steel wall in a Cromwell. The start of the game involved a M5 Stuart bouncing 2 mags worth of 37mm autocannon AP and I survived the battle on a sliver of HP
Back in the day I used to play TOG as a sniper kemping bush, even got some scout and patrol duty medals with it. After some update the accuracy spread change made the gun not reliable enough for long distance sniping and that was kinda that... I mean, you can still play it that way, but it's nowhere near as effective as it used to be.
@pipboy2k7, I definitely remember those days. If you were top tier, you'd push up with the other heavies. Bottom tier, you'd snipe. Although it has changed, I still love it!

Hi QB! I wasn't really a kid, but my first modem (1994) was a 1400 bits modem. Here in Sweden a phone call could never interrupt when you was connected to internet with a modem, the only thing happens was that the caller got a signal that the line is occupied.
I lived in Indonesia back in 1990's and the only internet that was available for me at that time was like you said, dial-up. Although I never got into online gaming until very later on, once someone rings the phone and cuts of the internet connection that took couple minutes to connect, it can get quite frustrating haha. It took ages to load a webpage, so offline and games that supported LAN connections were fun to play with friends. It's amazing how technology develops really fast for the past couple decades...

I just played single player games back when internet was bad lol And my internet at that time was so limited that you would really have to be careful how long you "surf" before you spent all your MB haha
Good old TOG. He suffered terribly at the introduction of the line from O-I. Then the Japanese HT took a nerf, then the HE was nerfed, and TOG has a chance to regain its rightful glory. I remember wild actions with this tank, like hitting the mission on the cap, Pascucci (when it was necessary to kill 3 artillery), or deflecting the shot of the then king of the VI T-KV-1S in an reversed sidescrap 😂. Funny actions, like the surprise of the IS player that he died while trying to ram the soft TOG, or the attempt to drive around the LT and the surprise that the HT can keep up with turret rotation and firing. Three TOGs in a platoon is my unfulfilled dream of having a good time.

QB I grew up on playing Sega Mastersystem 1, Mastersystem 2, Megadrive 1+ the Chipped version , Sega Megadrive 2, then the PlayStation 1 +2 , and then the Xbox 360 up to the new Gens👍✌
Some simple math. Crude, but somewhat accurate. More than half of all tanks in the game can go about 40 kph. By going 20, you miss out on alot of action=less influence on the board. Slow can be really frustrating.

Ahhh, the Dreamcast. I remember it well. I was a SEGA child from about six years old. Started with the Master System, which most people never even knew about, and I was all SEGA until the N64 came out, but I still had every SEGA system right up until the bitter end. Memories of dial up hell indeed, 🤣🤣

Like the British Td's ppl don't take seriously as well, when i played AT 2 for the first time i had a good crew from my Cromwell i wasn't playing anymore, retrained them to have repairs and and more chassis rotation and man that thing is a beast at T5, you just have to hide your cupola when you can do or use some gun depression and bonk everyone! Did the same on the entire line up to the Tortoise and stopped there. Liked so much that i got myself an AT-15A from the recruit system using another acc.
I remember 300 baud dial-up modems. But the data transferred was almost all text, so we got by.

If your playstyle is very aggressive then the raw power of the rammer is just more popular than the flexibility of vents. Just look back at the M6 engagement in the first game and the KV1 engagement in the second. You sat in front of them for so long.
We never managed 56,we could only manage 28.8k connection. It was enough for netstorm and diablo 2 lod. Good ol Australia!
For a supposed arty magnet, I managed a "critical hit" and no damage against the side of a TOG II* with my leFH.
When i was a kid, there were no internet... but I did have MSX Goldstar computor to play on. Thats like 1986. LOL.

Still have a Sega Dreamcast. It's a great system that came out at a bad time just like the Nintendo Game Cube. The PS2 was, and still is to this very day the best selling game console in history. It beat out everything and it wasn't even a contest. It's the only reason the Game Cube and Dreamcast were considered failures.

Well ... I'm familiar with the whole dial up deal but, as a kid, we were so poor, we didn't have a TV for most of my child hood lol. At about 10, the mom married someone who owned a home and had a TV so yay! got TV ... All whopping 2 channels of it. Still didn't get console or PC ... Still to poor lmao .. at around 17 years of age, Finally managed to scrape together enough to get a Nintendo from a yard sale and Mario. And finally, as an adult, once I had a career and my own source of income and NOT poor, I finally got myself a PC. ALL that said, growing up, I DID have friends who had all the gadgets and gismo's, PC's and Console and I took every opportunity that was presented to me to spend a night at their place so I could play on them lmao :)

I found the tog to be a strong defensive tank.
Wouldn't use the turbo on TOG, it's so slow it doesn't matter anymore. Definitely gun rammer and vents for my taste.

I still think playing specifically for marks is toxic and dislike how it makes me feel about competing with the team for dmg/spotting. Nevertheless, having done 90% of the tech tree T10s, I know there's enough people out there who are interested/need help with them.

All very good facing same tier tanks but your average player will not be facing same tier tanks he will be facing tier 7 more than likely with arty from tier 5 to 7 having a meal deal on the tog.
QB.. if you were online with a modem, people couldn't call because you were using the line. so I think you remember wrongly about people calling you and your parents. but if your parents called and they picked up the phone, your memory matches what happened
