WHY THE W140 S600 WAS THE GREATEST S CLASS EVER MADE! *V12 PAGANI ZONDA MERCEDES*

2020 ж. 8 Шіл.

On this episode of Savage Garage, Jimbo gives us a walkaround of his 1997 Mercedes S600. AKA, the W140, or "The most Mercedes looking Mercedes." It's The S Class That Has the V12 Pagani Used creating the Zonda!
Jimbo has a deep love for these cars. They're big, boxy, opus, and they're proud of it. It was the last generation of Mercedes that had a VERY high build quality and was built to last. The generations following feel cheap comparatively in many ways.
Although hard to find with good service records, they're an incredible value for the money. They're also quite reliable, all things that you can't necessarily say about today's Mercedes Benz products.
New this car was well over $200,000. But unlike some cars with extremely high MSRPs, this one was worth it.

    • Sin is ruining man. Lust, and all the sexual pleasure, love of money and very expensive houses and cars over GOD, pride, blasphemy and everything. Man is setting himself up for judgement and is going to perish in hell forever because of it, where will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Repent and turn to Jesus today, and accept his gift of eternal life. For Jesus is coming and we can see it: wars and rumors of wars like the Third Wolrd War(Matthew 24:6-7), the earth's axis in 2011 tilted 10 cm, which is the size, of woman's you know what place' right before birth, and that's how we know we are in birth pains(Matthew 24:8). River Euphrates is drying up(Revelation 16:12-14), and people heard those demons/fallen angels in caves under tge Euphrates river. Repent and believe in the finished Work of Jesus! Amen.

  • The early (pre facelift) W140 are of superior build quality. At facelift time (1994/1995 models) M.B. did over 1,700 changes to the S-class, Most of them had the original purpose to lower manufacturing cost (hence: quality!) and to simplify many complex engineering systems which tended to be unreliable. To begin with, the W140 was the most expensive vehicle ever developed by Mercedes-Benz in terms of design and production economics. The original development engineer and most of his staff were FIRED after production started due to alarming over budget costs. The first four years of production the W140 only produced losses to M.B., until the car was facelifted and production costs were lowered (along with quality and final consumer price, which allowed to raise sales proportionally).

    • @@omostim2385I’ve been doing research on this generation of Mercedes between the W140 (coupe and sedan) as well as the R129s. I’ve heard of the pre-1997 biodegradable harness issue. Are there any other major issues that they’re known for?

      @frankieguinto8121@frankieguinto812111 ай бұрын
    • @@frankieguinto8121 Sadly I don’t have much experience or knowledge on Mercedes of the early to mid 90s biodegradable era. I’ve owned older (91 560SEL, 89 300CE, and 77 300D) or later (2000 E320, SL500, and 03 S430). I especially love the later R129s and 140s for having the 722.6 5speed and or the M112/113 engines. They are just easier to work on and have lots of parts available. The W140 still used the M119 and M120 engines but from what I hear they are great engines. Paired to the 722 trans makes it even better. It’s a faster smoother more modern transmission I’ve heard the older 4 speed autos having a problems with reverse(and experienced it) So even if you find an earlier car where the wiring harness was replaced you may run into more issues along with parts availability. My R129 it has had some problems like the hydraulics for the top not working properly. The strut mounts rubber falling apart, a radiator that gave out, egr valve rubber hose that cracked (easy fix) and a blower motor wouldn’t spin at high speeds but it always ran and drove. I say look for something around 97 or newer with either the W140 or R129

There is nothing quite like the feeling of rolling along at 80 mph and dropping your size 10s flat. The surge of power is ethereal; the near instantaneous climb into serious triple digits, just simply amazing. The last of the BEST 600s; still a very real contender several decades after it's low production ended

I've driven some newer s-classes and they don't have the same feel to them. W140 is full of insane features like double glazing, it is so quiet you wouldn't believe, and it is so well insulated that in negative 10C after like a half an hour you come back to a nice and warm interior, lovely. One of my favourites was heated washer fluid bottle AND jets(by engine coolant, not a peasant electric heater :) )!! • I love old Mercedes Benz I have a W123 300D Turbo Diesel they are solid cars but the thing with old Mercedes is they don't cost a lot to buy but they are expensive as hell to repair as I have found out...

    • My first car was a W123 and it was before I knew much about cars, if you learn how to do anything on them learn valve adjustments and it will run forever.

    • @@durtnasty that is true but with a car being 35 years old now and its also my first car. The W123 is amazing but in due time everything except the engine really starts needing attention plastic clips that break rubber seals etc its a amazing car but people who have replacement parts mark them up so much its hard to justify making it a first car

  • Great video and awesome car! Couple things though: Pretty sure the E32 7 Series (which debuted in 1987) had double pane windows before the w140 and the start up sound on the E32 is very similar to the w140 too. Even though that cell phone powers on, the phone networks that it used for service are no longer in commission :-)

  • I’m the proud owner of a black on black s600 coupe. The most amazing car I’ve ever owned. For anyone that’s never driven one, you have no idea. After owning this car nothing comes close. I will never part with her. I’ve entertained 2 offers of 40k and turned them down. Depreciation is your friend on this model. Wish I could include a couple pics you’d love it ! Amg staggered 18” chrome Aero lll monoblocs ! Lorrinser exhaust and 2 recent high flow walker catalytic converters CARB approved for Ca. Sounds amazing...love to share some pics with you guys, and I do all my own work 100%.

  • No one ever mentions the 'Suede Headliner' ! Definitely one of the greatest visuals a guy casts his eyes upon when looking upward. The same suede is also on some of the console surrounds. My '97 also has just turned over 80,000 miles and the one thing to watch for is if you get a bit of coolant on the floor from the back of the engine, there is a small pipe that will need to be replaced. They are only around 120 bucks, but a bit labor intensive. By the way when mine let go, only one was in America in the middle of Montana. Wow.....
