    • @kibawhitefang7176 so few anime take themselves seriously and cinematically. It's not a story about a high school kid who can't talk to girls and trips over his own feet learning to control the ultimate power. It's a real story with so many layers. The characters, the government and societal etc etc. It's got animation that was painstakingly drawn using advanced techniques for the time in a way that you likely won't see ever again given modern techniques. The attention to detail is crazy. It never misses a beat, never a stupid one liner, never shallow fan service, always unpredictable. It's a real movie and it's a good movie and the fact that it's an anime is coincidental. All this and it was made 3 decades ago. There is nothing like it and nothing ever will be. Also the futuristic motorcycles are cool and everyone loves the leather jacket with the pill on it. xD

I can see why people like Luffy more as he is a less serious character and just funner. I would say both stories have different tones and One Piece 's fun adventurous one wins in Japan, and also Luffy is funny and silly. So trying to guess and look at it from a Japanese perspective, I can see why more people said One Piece than Naruto.v

    • Naruto is so incredibly popular internationally because for a lot of people it was their first anime, so it's mostly nostalgia speaking. In Japan, since it's not their first anime, they don't have that emotional factor so they judge more on the story and the characters. Although even outside of Japan, ONE PIECE is actually the #1 anime for most countries, Naruto is #1 for most for countries in South America though.

And, now that all the episodes of Shingeki no Kyojin is out, I can finally say that even though I did not like it at first, during the later seasons it slowly but steadily worked its way towards my top 3.

I got my husband into it, and we watched it 3 times in a row with subtitles. To date, we've watched it 6 times, twice in English. It was our pandemic happy place. We've also watched Full Metal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note, Food Wars, and we are currently watching One Piece. Gonna check out many of those mentioned in video. • Lemme go about my top fav animes. (Not in order) Violet Evergarden- it shows about very emotional scenes and how you should cherish and love every moment you have especially with someone you love since you dont know when they might go away. Bungo Stray Dogs - It shows a lot of plot twists, issues and stuff and its just a really good story line in general. (Also bc the designs and characters have really good backstories and designs). Hotarubi no mori e- its not really well known but it also has a really good story also telling about how you should be happy about the moments you have with someone. A Silent Voice- Also a really good story in general. It shows about how what you put into the world always has its way of coming back to you, how you should listen to the voices of what others hearts' tell and how you should consider what someone else is going through first before doing any selfish actions which can cause major problems to others that you cant see. Anyways, these animes are really good and gives you a "a slice of life" kind of vibes and teaches very good life lessons. I reccommend watching these animes ;) Edit: here are some of my other favs but with no explanation since im too lazy to :P Kamisama Hajimemashita, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, (pretty much every Ghibli movie), Tpn (season 2 sucks/could be better), Suzume no tojimari, The Lonely Castle Through the Mirror. Bsd still on top for me.

  • It's hard and it's between Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and Parasyte. All so beautiful with compelling stories and thought provoking premises often. I'd have to give it to Parasyte though. I read the manga long ago when i was 16 or so and immediately fell in love. Then I saw it got picked up and was extremely excited when I saw who was handling the adaptation. Poignant, funny, clever, heartbreaking, makes you think (are we not monsters to pigs) and in the end the unlikely heroes don't even want to slay the bad guy. Migi is number one! I'm partial to my right hand myself but if it gave me superhuman abilities, was incredibly intelligent and insightful (if cold) I'd be so excited!

  • Idk how they can zero it down…my brain has to put them into detailed categories (ex: 80s thriller for young adult male) and I pick the best in that those categories . I’ve watched so much anime that it’s so hard for me to just pick one out of them all😅. I’ve even made a anime journal and ratings…I recommend y’all do it too. It’s interesting to see the anime you’ve watched during the year and to see the trends in your tastes at certain periods of your life.

  • I find it fascinating to learn that Demon Slayer is so popular in Japan that Demon Slayer's Japanese name, Kimetsu no Yaiba, or "Sword of the Demon Slayer" is shortened in common parlance among the japanese public to simply "Kimetsu" I caught several speakers in this video simply calling it "Kimetsu". What I find more interesting about that, is that, "Kimetsu" would just mean "Demon Slayer", so the American name fits really well.

    • "not the deepest, or the most serious anime" bro has not been paying attention. "Politics in MY goofy fun adventure manga?! stop the cap" my guy: - The antagonist is literally called the World Government - There's a pervasive theme of liberation and equity for oppressed people throughout the story - Most major arcs show revolutionary forces native to their respective regions, the struggles they embark on to self-determine their own fate and liberate themselves from their oppressors, with the Strawhats often being forces that liberate the masses or greatly aid efforts to (Koza in Alabasta, Wyper in Skypiea, etc) in stark contrast to other not so fortunate places like Lulusia that have the sparks of revolution snuffed out by all powerful shadowy beings - The Revolutionary Army, that assists populations that have a desire to improve their conditions and oust corrupt regimes - Chapters 1084-1086 which strongly suggest that the Will of the D and The One Piece have been historically something that allowed/galvanized the oppressed people to fight back - God Valley + Kuma flashback - Luffy's potential real dream from chapter 1060(admittedly remains to be seen, but combined with the ace and sabo flashback seems to suggest that it is aligned with the goal of the revs) There's no one lens to view a work with, and of course the face-value pov of 'its a fun manga about sailing the seas' is great and fully valid, but only tells one side of the story; it reduces what is a deeply thought provoking work of literature and political commentary into 'haha goofy rubberman on boat', missing the other dimensions along which the work exists: as a rich political commentary, an analysis of class structures, a critique of hierarchical social relations, among many others.
