  • Universal holding on to the distribution rights to the Hulk films is pointless.

    @blackphoenix77@blackphoenix774 жыл бұрын
    • I don't see why. That's a deal Marvel entered into fair and square. Why should Universal just give it up? Just to please a handful of comic book-reading fanboys that equate less than 1% of the overall audience for these movies? The existing distribution rights are not preventing Marvel/Disney from doing another solo Hulk movie if they want to. They have the production rights of the Hulk, not Universal. It's Disney's call, and they can greenlight a new Hulk movie whenever they want. They're choosing not to because they know they'd have to share a very small portion of the box office with the distributor. Which is totally fine, that's their prerogative. And honestly, their job is to maximize profit. But that's the fact.

    • Also hulk is one of the most popular marvel characters

      @oceanman7063@oceanman70633 жыл бұрын
    • @@oceanman7063 That's incorrect. The "right of first refusal" just means is that if Disney decides to make another Hulk movie, they are required to offer Universal the chance to distribute it first. If for whatever reason Universal refuses to distribute the movie, Disney can then simply distribute it themselves as they do all their other MCU movies. They just have to offer Universal the chance to distribute it, but whatever Universal decides, it doesn't stop the movie from getting made. And let's be honest. There's no way in Hell Universal would refuse to distribute an MCU movie. Why would they pass up the chance to tie their brand to arguably the most lucrative film franchise in history, and one of the most popular characters in that franchise? Of course they wouldn't refuse to distribute it...and Disney knows that. Which is why they're not making the movie, because they don't want to share those MCU dollars with a third-party distributor. Which I don't blame them for. It's Disney's movie and it's Disney's call. But make no mistake, it is ENTIRELY Disney's call. The ball is 100% in their court.

  • I have an Incredible fear that the marvel studios Kevin Feige, the Russo brothers and even Mark Ruffalo are missing the point of this character and risk irreparable damage to the mythos of The Hulk. This hero for me is one of the most relatable and fascinating characters because his abilities are directly correlated to his emotions. No he can't shoot cosmic beams out of his hands or cast a spells but he's demonstrated time and time again that those powers pale in comparison to the universal strength of the human psyche. They are dwarfed by a basic raw human emotion…ANGER. The Hulk is the physical representation of "rage unchecked" and the limitless devastation that ensues is what keeps us coming back for more. Is he invincible?? Not in the slightest, but he is constantly underestimated and if his anger is neglected then he soon becomes an unstoppable force quite like the indomitable spirit of the human race. A mirror image of our unlimited capabilities both helpful and destructive. The point of all this is simply to express my concern about this childlike/goofball character arc they’ve created in an attempt to endear him to the audience when in fact it’s having the opposite effect. Please consider this when moving forward.

    • Couldn't have worded it better myself. This is exactly why I prefer the iteration of Hulk in The Incredible Hulk movie to his portrayal in Thor Ragnarok and Avengers Endgame. The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton understood who and what both Bruce Banner represents and what the Hulk is to him and to civilians. It understood the horror that comes with that and the raw, unbridled strength and heroism to also be found. As far as I'm concerned, that movie remains the most accurate on screen representation we've had on the character ever.

  • I think a lot of people misinterpret Hulk as a superhero story, it's not. It's a psychological science fiction human drama, with horror elements. While the Hulk certainly does cross paths with the rest of the Marvel Universe, his is not a superhero story, but one of a man whose trauma manifests as an unstoppable force, that he can't control and at best tries to aim. A man who loathes what he knows his legacy will be, as one of destruction, tragically overshadowing his own brilliance while highlighting his emotional maladjustment in dealing with said trauma. A rich, human tapestry, but MCU formula fiction, it ain't.

    @osarumenerhunmwunsee@osarumenerhunmwunsee4 жыл бұрын
    • I feel like any writer could just have Hulk heal after since the Russos are done with the MCU, or at least Hulk. So, like with comics, just have a better writer just retcon the crap. Maybe Hulk doesn't heal from the Infinity Snap until he has to absorb radiation from a nuclear reactor meltdown, then he's blasted with a gamma boost that increases his strength. Professor Hulk is just another personality in the comics, so whatever's done with Hulk next could involve his Multiple Personality Disorder. Grey Hulk, Savage Hulk, and maybe even the "Devil" Hulk if they go the Immortal Hulk route (doubtful, but still a guy can dream) Of course this can only happen if Universal gets their heads out of their asses and give back the rights to Marvel.

    • @Failingpepper 11 He is not as strong as savage hulk but his healing factor shouldn’t be taken away. In the comics vector blasted away professor hulk skin nearly to skeleton and professor hulk healed in few seconds. Professor hulk in mcu is strong as heck. He supported the weight of the avengers mansion with one arm despite being weak as fuck. Despite having a broken arm. He’s able survive the infinity gauntlet when he snapped. That’s a huge feat. Savage hulk in mcu doesn’t have this level of feat if you ask me.

      @osarumenerhunmwunsee@osarumenerhunmwunsee3 жыл бұрын
    • @Failingpepper 11 yeah they nerfed the Hulk. They still have never truly shown Hulk's true power. He knocked out that flying worm in the first Avengers but not much since then as far as actual strength feats. And that's kinda what Hulk is all about.

      @dqreps@dqreps2 жыл бұрын
    • I'm a long long time late, and I see where you're coming from. But the withered arm is a visual representation of the idea of what they were doing having a cost. We see it earlier in the movie when Natasha dies. The arm is another instance of it. Film is a visual medium, so you have to show what it costs to make the snap while also foreshadowing what's going to happen when Tony does it. It scarred Thanos in Infinity War, and it scarred Hulk much more clearly. So when Tony grabs it? And he snaps his fingers? We know its beyond dangerous, so does he--and he does it anyway. I'm not in love the the way the MCU characterizes some characters, or how powers scale from the source material, but I also get this specific instance I see you commenting on in the other replies. This one had everything to do with storytelling.

  • Just stumbled on this. Great Video! I think the tv series was so successful because of not only Bixby acting. But also Lou - he seemed to have the difficult job of having to emote through his eyes and face when compassionate and also when angry at the bad guys. my dad and I watched every episode when I was kid. it was immensely popular. But costs per episode made it so difficult to keep going as a series. I was fortunate to have a 4 person dinner with Lou Ferrigno one night 3 years ago. Such a great guy. Told him how dad had me watch because I have hearing problems. Dad told me that see the Hulk? He’s deaf son- but he made it. You can do anything as well. As my bosses talked business amongst each other at the dinner - Lou and I talked the dinner long about the Hulk, my hearing, his hearing etc. we even read each other’s lips when the restaurant got too loud. The next day- after he finished his motivational speech for our whole company he said “your dad was so supportive of you- let’s FaceTime him so I can personally thank him for guiding you with your ear problems.” Unfortunately my dad died in 98 at 53 years. But Lou made me cry thinking how much dad would’ve enjoyed getting a FaceTime with Lou. I truly believe he success of that show was because of Bill, Lou and their connection to people. At that dinner- the regard and love Lou has for Bill is amazing. Just felt compelled to share.

    • Y'know I can't remember, it was a video on Marvel's official channel promoting the launch of a game or series or something and they went through all the characters in one video, Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Cap etc and there was a 10 second or so origin of each with that original animation, I've spent a couple of hours backtracking trying to find it but I just can't pinpoint it. It's driving me crazy haha.

  • I'm not sure who wrote it but I believe it was a comic in the early 2000s, but my favorite idea for a film was a comic were Banner is drugged, straight jacketed and dropped out of an airplane just as he is starting to wake up. As he falls he comes to and transforms just before he hits the ground with a very large impact. He destroys the city and is used as a weapon of mass destruction. I thought it was really smart.

Now that she-hulk is coming out surrounded by all the controversy, I’ve been wondering what happened to the character and why everyone was saying his modern depiction isn’t what it should be. You did a great job delving into the origins and rocky history of the hulk as a character and as a media, and hearing all of those cancelled productions made me realize what a tragedy we’ll never see those happen. Thank you for helping me understand, great vid!

  • I went back and watched the 03 film recently, it was the first time I had seen the film all the way through since I was a kid. At first I thought I was going to hate it and cringe at it’s most infamous aspects, but after I got done watching it I realized that it wasn’t really that bad. It’s not an amazing movie by any means, but it has some great ideas that could have worked if the movie didn’t take itself so seriously. I still prefer the 2008 film over the 03 movie, but hearing about these other scripts just makes me imagine what could have been.

  • A lot of fans are saying the MCU Avenger's Hulk missed the mark. I personally think Mark Ruffalo was a fine Bruce Banner and the Hulk was used appropriately. Because they gave the Hulk TWO major movies that explored a lot of his origin and back story and neither of those movies were great. They were fine, but not great. And it was going to be impossible to invest anymore in the Hulk's back story or mythos in the larger scale of the Avengers. If they ever decide to give the Hulk another solo movie franchise then maybe we can try to explore the duality of his existence and the rage and emotion that drive the Hulk. Or fans may just be talking about he was used in She-Hulk, and I can hardly disagree. That is cringe-worthy. I cover my eyes like I'm watching a horror movie. Or just really embarrassed for a good friend.

    @nothingtoseehear5012@nothingtoseehear5012 Жыл бұрын
    • I think Ruffalo and Bruce/Hulk's overall role were great in Avengers 1. But Age of Ultron then started to miss the mark and it was all downhill from there. Also pretty sure the Russos just plain dislike Hulk. At this point I think Hulk needs a reboot. I'm really not sure I'd want to see another MCU Hulk solo movie even if they could make it because of how much of a joke they've made him. I don't even entirely mind Professor Hulk (though they need to revert him soon) but I just can't picture Disney's Marvel putting the right people behind a Hulk movie and giving it the right tone. Best case scenario is that Universal elects to make it and they put someone like Del Toro in charge of it. But let's say Disney/Marvel is willing to try to make Hulk right. Okay well at this point we still have to deal with Skaar and such now. Best path I can figure now is to say Bruce repressed all memories of his childhood trauma, but now that he's a father, surrounding circumstances unlock those memories and part of the struggle is reconciling his past by trying to be better than his own father as problems arise with Skaar. Use the past coming back to haunt him as an excuse to have him relapse, or even for a new personality to arise, perhaps Joe Fixit as like a version of Professor that's a scheming asshole. Also I'd want a return to that concept of an "Island of Dr. Moreau" style horror vibe, with Hulk facing Leader and his figurative basement full of horrors.

As a casual fan that knew the Hulk from the tv show I never knew about the abisive father storyline, so the story in the Ang Lee movie never made sense til now. It felt kinda thrown in and I think had that aspect of the movie been fleshed out better with more of a backstory the movie would have done better.
