  • Anyone else think the flashy, impressive cinematography really clashes with the punk rock aesthetic? It really has none of the grit of the style it’s depicting. Just another example of commercialised, completely watered down punk aesthetics to make money for a giant corporation (exactly what real punks were rebelling against). Still better than Tramp Stamps at least.

  • Honestly, I loved this movie. And funny thing is my 10 year old cousin basically forced me into the cinema and I was expecting garbage. But the music is good, the editing is great, and god Emma's performance is outstanding. I also personally really liked the writing. It was silly and ridiculous sometimes, because it's a Disney movie, and otherwise it would have been very dark. It's about an outcast gifted girl coming to terms with her own narcissistic tendencies inherited from a sociopathic mother. Like, my goodness. It's not about dalmatians, and it's not about the Cruella we knew from the cartoon. But is it worth it? Absolutely. It's the opposite of "unoriginal". If only we got more mature reimaginings like this instead of cheesy copy-and-paste remakes.

Instead of girlboss Joker, we should've been given girlboss Nightcrawler (a movie also about a horrible person doing horrible things to succeed and is really good). And I will never get over the "Dalmatians killed her mom" that is prime comedy right there

I’m pretty she she needs 101 so she goes and kidnaps them. Also you do realize that wasn’t what they were going for right? The movies established that the Baroness killed her mother. • Personally, I enjoyed Cruella. I have (for some reason) seen all the live-action Disney films, from the jungle book onwards, and I haven't enjoyed any of them and downright hated most. So me going into Cruella my expectations were really low but I enjoyed it with its fun soundtrack, 70s London setting, over the top colourful set pieces, and memorable performances it was a ridiculous movie for sure but I felt like it understood how silly the whole story was a ran with it. For example, the entire ending was stretching into stupid territory but I think the build-up of the rest of the ridiculous stuff in the film which I think overall was quite silly at times, makes that final bit feel more comfortable with the rest of the film. But I do agree that the cgi dogs always stood out as weird to me.

    • The soundtrack alone made the movie worse for me. Kind of how it was mentioned in the video, a new song cuts in every five minutes with no substance. Some of the best scenes (even if they were cliche or cheesy) happened to be the ones that were silent or with the original score. Her on the scooter on the way to the fountain with her (albeit cheesy) speech to her dead mother was a very emotional scene and it didn't suffer from having a cover of Fortunate Son playing. If there was a cut of the movie without MOST of the songs, the movie would be so much better than people think it is. At that point, the worst part of the movie would be some of the dialogue.

  • The film tries to have it both ways with Cruella: she tries to uproot the corrupt and mean villain only to become the same thing? And she's told she's intrinsically bad so that just makes everything she does justified? She's a tonally broken character. And most of the comedy just comes from having to watch Paul Walter Hauser play a silly and dumb sidekick that eats food. I mean seriously, what's funny about that? I personally found that disturbing. The side characters overall are regularly wronged yet keep coming back to Cruella, but for what reason? She ends up being the exact thing they saw her becoming when they initially disconnect themselves from her, only to end up right back under her wing. They are given no self-worth or intelligence. Its technically well made but frankly the story is one of the worst things Disney has made in a long time.

It was all about Cruella and the Baroness going head to head with each other. This is an origin story. Again it’s not like they made her good she’s a bad person. She was born bad. Hopefully in the next movie her character develops further and she goes full on puppy killer.

      @alanal5997@alanal59972 жыл бұрын
    • @@alanal5997 They just should have never tried to portray Cruella as a good guy or hero. If they do a sequel where she goes full on puppy killer, it's dumb because everyone was meant to root for her in the first movie; it should've been a single movie where she goes from someone you can kind of understand to puppy killer. Even then, Cruella's character has always been fur-obsessed puppy killer. It's weird to make this kind of movie and not separate her from 101 Dalmatians (which they shouldn't even have attempted in the first place because people aren't going to think bad ass punk fashionista when they hear 'Cruella', they're going to think puppy killer, that's just a connotation you can't get rid of). The movie may have performed worse but it would have overall worked better as a story if it were completely separate from 101 Dalmatians. Call it something else, rename the characters, and rework some things so it's not Dalmatians and she doesn't like fur at all. Boom, decent Disney movie that doesn't try to get you to like/root for a future puppy killer.
