The canyon death runs are pretty great I agree.
there's quiet a number of excellent carrier landings that aren't hooking a cable. DCS seems to have a few bugs..
It might just be latency. Most online games will "fill in" locational data if the user's computer doesn't send location updates in a timely manner, meaning the server just guesses where the player's plane will be and shows that. Wifi is notorious for losing lots data during transmission and lots of people use it instead of ethernet so it's going to look like a good landing when it may not have been. |Also it appears that most of the "good" landings here were landing way off to the side where the wire isn't lifted off the ground all the way, and the aircraft weren't coming down at a steep enough angle, causing the hook to bounce.

I dont think its bugs. I think some of these INSANE landings are technically possible. However no one could ever attempt them since failure is certain death, theres a comically high chance of failure, and nobody with acces to these planes would ever be authorized to attempt it.
Seems to be a new thing, these landings used to work fine if you watch the older competitions we did.

another STOL race or however it was called would be nice. Some tanks blocking the middle of a runway. Take off, land behind the tanks, and take off again opposite direction and land behind the tanks again.
Doesn't the F16 have a tailhook? I could've sworn it did. Not for carrier operation but for emergency landings with arrestor wires. Edit: Nevermind, commented too early. GG Fly.

Loved this video! Thanks to all who participated and put up with the fun kinks that Cap threw in (giggidy). Whoever would have thought landing sideways across a carrier could be done? Cannot wait for the next taxi through an obstical course, fly throuigh a series of cones with the risk of Fly shooting you down, air race like you have done before.... but with armed APCs along the race track!
It was really cool to watch all the different types of plans lining up on the landing pattern with that view

I've seen a USAF RF-4 use it's arresting hook. It had a hydraulic failure and used its hook to catch an emergency wire on the runway.

I had a hell of a time landing an F/A18 on a carrier in X-Plane until I read the POH and realized that I was starting with around double the max landing weight in fuel load. I'd either come in way to fast or stall and hit the tail. After adjusting the fuel load to the proper level I was able to nail it.

It's tough when you can't tell whether DCS hook modeling is getting better or the damn thing just doesn't work. Bog did have "dead hook angles" back in the day already. If you want to go R-word style, land a little short, plant the nose down immediately and drive over the wires. Used to catch every time, probably still does because this FVG.

Tournament idea. Guns only dogfights. Head on pass to begin the merge. No missles, and it's best 2 out of 3 to move up the ladder. Kicker, if a prop shoots down a jet they are allowed to take 2 fox 2s in the next match if they choose a jet. If a prop shoots down a prop it doesn't apply

I wish they'd add the effect of water disturbance when the engines get close to the water. Wouldn't have to be hugely complex or detailed to begin with, but something like a spray or a change in the surface appearance would be good. It just looks odd having nothing at all.

From (far) past experience, I can tell you, you guys would have seriously pissed off some boatswain's mates but the damage you did to that deck.
This video is the reason Navy Pilots go full throttle as soon as they hit the deck.

Maybe you should stipulate rules like all landing gear must be touching the top deck. This would fix issues with the planes hanging off the sides.

Not that I assume you to know, but when I start DCS up it closes? It isn’t any of my logitech since I have unplugged them and it is fine, my PC specs are good and the game is up to date. Do you have any idea? Oh and I don’t have any mods, even at 0.27 it did work for a while until recently which now it doesn’t, and I have verified file integrity of game files, so I literally have no idea what is causing it.
i play on 162nd and 4ya all the time how do i get involved with you guys in your fun competitions.. gets boiring flying missions 24/7 sometimes

not sure why the airforce has such a problem. my guess is the tail hook is bouncing worse because of the touch down grab versus the long all 3 on the ground profile normally used for tail hook landing by the airforce.
