Lyrics:
My hearts seen things I wish it didn’t
Somewhere I lost some of my innocence
and I miss it
I miss it
Stay up all night thinking it’s twisted
My life’s been survival of the fittest
But I did it
I did it
I do all my own healing
Manage all of my feelings
I don’t ask for help no
Cuz I don’t need it
Cuz I don’t need it
Sometimes I wish I could do something stupid
Be kinda reckless while I can
Say I don’t give a damn
But I’m older than I am
I could get hurt and get some scars to prove it
Just say to hell with all my plans
Cuz I don’t give a damn
But I’m older than I am
Why am I always the one making decisions
How do I handle the pressure
I do my best to fake it
But honestly I hate it
I do all my own fighting
I’m who imma confide in
Maybe I need help no
I won’t deny it
I won’t deny it
Sometimes I wish I could do something stupid
Be kinda reckless while I can
Say I don’t give a damn
But I’m older than I am
I could get hurt and get some scars to prove it
Just say to hell with all my plans
Cuz I don’t give a damn
But I’m older than I am
Older than I, older than I, older than I
I’m older and I don’t give a damn
I’m older than I am

  • Never heard a song on this subject before, feeling like this. I was forced to grow up quickly with my parents fighting each other almost every day and I'd be in the middle separating them from killing each other. At school I played alone and was bullied constantly. My life isn't nearly as bad as many but I learnt pretty quickly life isn't anything like the Disney movies. It can be hard and lonely. I'm a young adult now and I have depression, anxiety and low self-esteem, most days I deal with it myself because that's what I've learnt is best to do. But right now I'm in therapy and hoping for a future much brighter than the past. Edit: My parents are now in the process of getting divorced. I don't speak to my father, I do speak to my mother however and because she doesn't have much money I will be helping her pay whatever she is required to for the divorce. I shouldn't be but I don't have a choice. Still trying to make my life better than the past though. Could you blame me for not wanting marriage or kids.

I understand the comfort in seeing you are not alone in your experiences, especially those which leave you scarred like ours have. I'm so sorry you've been through the same things :( I try to remind myself the trauma I went through as a child and teenager does not have to define my future. Therapy has definitely been helpful I recommend it for low self esteem. Take care of yourself 💙

    • @@jeaniebartlett7297 Hi I'm so sorry you've been through some of the same stuff, it really sucks some days :( I would definitely recommend seeing someone if you think you are ready to talk about your experiences. I am currently having CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) which I really do recommend, it's been about reprogramming my brain to think differently about myself. Whether or not you decide to talk to anyone I wish you all the best 💙

    • I didn’t have an easy life at all abandoned, raped, abused mentally and physically. The scars go deep and all started from the moment I was conceived. No child should ever be told they were only five minutes from being aborted. Life hasn’t been easy at all but the beauty in all the pain is we are able to have compassion and understanding for others in any circumstances and able to relate. I too suffered chronic major depression which led me to having an autoimmune disease now from all the trauma and stress of being in fight or flight mode for so long...and it’s hard to continue sometimes but the one thing I have on my side now as an adult is I can control the outcome of my life now and I am no longer a victim. The moment you stop seeing yourself as a victim and healing is the moment you can win and overcome the pain you have suffered... You just have to give yourself the permission to realize you did your best in the circumstances that you could at a young age and that it’s ok to heal and grow past it now and create the life you want. I went off the deep end in the beginning of my adult life drugs & alcohol to numb the pain until i realized it wasn’t what I needed. I also found God and I’ve never felt such at peace. Your never alone

  • i feel like this is one of those songs that everyone can relate to... the pain over losing your innocence and a piece of yourself but trying to pretend like you're ok so you can be strong for the people around you. the desire to be reckless while you're still young and not wanting to miss out on life...

    • yeah, doesn't matter when in life, anytime you're fighting for a better change over and over again, you can get that feeling, the strength is not to give in to being "stupid" as ppl been saying in the comments, but keep believing of a more settled situation, try to be positive and make choices that take care of yourself, "doing your own healing" as she sings, trying to enjoy those little things, as another said in the thread, if you radiate, doesn't matter what you did, and the adventures to tell are often more fun like the best word combinations in scrabble or an amzing view in your local area, a beautiful flower by the asphalt or the greatest smile from a stranger on the train. That is my experience.

    • Having a full time job, sometimes more than 80 hours a week, day or night. Just be there when you're told to and make sure you know all your lines. She and her kid sister were the primary breadwinners. She couldn't just be a teenager and go hang out with friends, because it wasn't safe to do so unless she brought a couple grown men with her. I wouldn't be surprised if they had to deal with more than one predator, either while being dragged around on tour by their parents, or while they were working. I don't envy either one of them their childhoods.

I came when the riches where failing, my brothers weren’t home and I was the one who calmed my parents when they fought, protected my mom, was bullied and sexually assaulted at 13, sticked through my dads life threatening tumor and now I gave up university to be with my mom who has cancer... at 19, I’m older than I am and I’m so jealous of the people who are free and reckless

And they are even more special when they represent who you are, not who you wish you were. There is so much more life to live and make memories they way you want to

      @laurennielsen5208@laurennielsen52084 жыл бұрын
    • the thing is, an amazing memory doesn't have to be a crazy story. if you were happy in that moment, it doesn't really matter how bizarre the story was, as long as you look back and smile and as you read through the other replies, there is 1. still time but also 2. the stories you so badly want to tell when you're older most likely are not the stories people want to hear. it's the little things that are hilarious, fun and simply good memories. try not to worry about having crazy stories and just focus on your own happiness because in every story, the best part about it is the happiness in the person's eyes when they tell it: so it doesn't matter how big or small the story is (or even if there's no story): it's about the happiness you radiate that matters. and i love u and if you ever need someone to talk to, i am here and maaaany others too:)

  • I really feel this song. I feel like I'm constantly grieving my younger self and the way things used to make me feel. I feel like everyone is moving on while I'm stuck in the past wishing I could be my younger self back before my life fell apart, and I lost literally everyone in my family except my mom due to tragic events in my life. It's like I woke up one day and everyone but me had moved on. Due to losing all of my family, I had to really step up and become an adult at age 12/13. I am so jealous of kids my age whose biggest worry is homework and I grieve the fact that I used to feel the same way. I'm trying to move on as its been 4 years since everything happened but I feel like I'm stuck in a loop. I want to be able to enjoy my youth and do normal teenage things like go to parties and date but I hold myself back for a past I no longer have and will never have again. It's nice to see other people feel the same way because I feel so alone in this.

  • I've searched my whole life for a song that described my life, how I've felt, growing up quick with my mum's disability and losing my dad last month out of nowhere it feels like I'm about 30 at the age of 16, taking on responsibilities and seeing things nobody at my age has gone through and this song describes how I feel exactly. All my friends out doing stupid things but I've never joined in because I've always been too mature to be a kid and to be reckless because I'm just older than I am. Thank you Lennon for gifting us this beautiful gift of a song. Xx

    • Not comparing, I just think it is cool to see the amount of people in such binds that only I felt I was in. I am not happy that so many have had such sorrow at a young age, but it feels nice to not be alone. My parents are amazing parents, but my mom is on heavy medication to cope with her nightmares of her mother’s murder that happened in 2019 by her stepdad, a man that I did not enjoy the company of, but holds so many memories in my childhood that is hard to destroy. I have been a co-parent to my special needs nephew since I was 15, I gave up school to travel to Pittsburgh during his liver-kidney transplant last March. My sister has dealt with many losses and mental health issues, and I have had to protect her in times she went manic and even set my hair on fire. I just turned 22 last month. It is not a traditional struggle, it is hard to explain to many because on the outside, our family appears fine, but there is always a thin wall between someone crying and on the verge of leaving. I hate being on the sidelines of my own life, but this song so accurately reflects that feeling that I don’t see too many young people portray.

  • This song speaks for me, I hate how responsible I am sometimes. Growing up in a poor family and seeing my mom working hard for our family makes me grow older than I am (mentally and emotionally) that keeps me responsible but whenever mom tells me of her youth I cannot help but envy her, she is way cooler than I am when she was my age. But now that my parents are growing older, I have to work hard just so I can provide for my family, to make my parents dream come true, to give my younger brother a decent lifestyle.

    • @Penny Lane!! Will u fuck off for once in your damn pitiful life?! In case you didn’t know, Lennon contributed in writing every song on the album except this one, but she felt extremely connected to this song. These are her words: “I've never felt more connected to a song, and it's so weird because I didn't write it. It's one of those things where I feel like it's so close to me that I don't even know that I would have been able to write it. When I heard this song for the first time, I was literally sobbing uncontrollably, and I was very quick to put my vocal on it and dive in and make it feel even more like myself.” I’d like to see u fucking write a good song all by yourself. U comment on every single video bc u clearly have no purpose in ur life but to hate on Lennon. That’s truly disgraceful and sad. Ur clearly extremely jealous of her. Nobody would go through the trouble of commenting hate on every single video of someone unless they are jealous, which u clearly. Please find something else better to do with the unbelievable amount of time u seem to have on ur hands.

  • The song speaks so strongly to most of us who, at a young age, had to make adult decisions. We put so much pressure on ourselves and fear failure so much it's so easy to cultivate self-hate. However, I`ve come to realize that I'm actually glad that I am who I am because I'm graduating next year with no debt/student loans, I'm working for a company I see myself working with for many years, and I'm on the road to self-discovery. I see myself as someone who Is strong enough to face the challenges in life and walk away from things I know I don`t deserve. I`ve accepted that there will always be a part of me that would reminiscence the past, but It's no longer something I hate myself for or regret greatly because those decisions brought me to where I am now.
