Invited to the Sajam Tekken Slam, Coney enters a Tekken 8 invitational without knowing anything about Tekken. Listen to the tale of how Coney preps for the tournament and his experience undergoing a tremendous task of learning one of the most complex fighting games in such a short period of time.

      @Giotron@GiotronАй бұрын
    • @@Giotron It's so funny that how anti newer player King specifically is. His throws are balanced at higher level through a knowledge/execution test that new players will never perform, you cannot just start mashing buttons on King because he has 2 (at least) very powerful power crushes, and the only counterplay new players will have against grab is duck (they cannot break throws, and you also need to know TO duck), ducking also being a risky high committment option that could get you launched. A new player also probably won't have the wherewithal to punish the King player hard from a successful duck under a grab.

      @unda4549@unda4549Ай бұрын
    • @@unda4549 thank you! As far as the comparison, they’re very movement heavy, poke heavy games, where most moves are minus if blocked. I kinda compare air movement in smash to Tekken’s horizontal movement since it’s a 3D game. Of course it’s not a perfect 1:1, but I do think there’s a lot of parallels. Even the ground game in Tekken (when your opponent is knocked down) feels a lot like the ledge/recovery game in smash, since Tekken lets you stay on the ground, doesn’t give you invincibility while you’re knocked down (excluding ukemi which is a tech roll option, though it works a little differently from smash) and the attacker is heavily at advantage not just from the threat of a mixup if they do stand up, but with the threat of preventing your opponent from getting up in the first place, just like trying to get back on stage in Smash.

Fully convinced me along with Slime to learn the game, as well as maining King, despite being a grappler, and the community being Scrubs + Bitches + Bitchless + No Money about him. Respect for the multiple times you said the game absolutely isn't your thing, but I fucking loved this content, absolutely my favourite arc to this date. just 10/10 the whole way through, to the point where I was digging through twitch to find the tekken vods after the event to find more stuff, since I had to miss those streams, as well as just not being a live content guy too much in general. Cheers! excited to finish the video lmfao. Might ramble more after.

    • Also I can't really lie. Like you touched on, those laggy games were a real piss off. Leaving a separate comment cause I don't wanna be a complete hater, but my god that KILLED the momentum of that event. It is "technically" a casual event, but the attitude, presentation, and everything else was professional. Including the great prizes, including a fucking Evo trip of all things. I know everyone also agreed and knew beforehand, but even with that, it didn't look like anyone was happy about that lol. "Oh but they both deal with the ping" works a lot less when you can practice consistently, for weeks with that, versus having it dropped day of, unexpected. And then of course, daring not to smile and wave through it, just salty fan angry about X Y or Z losing. Totally not annoyed at the momentum change so obvious that even the streamers can't hide it lmfao. That condescension just locked me into Coney and my other interests streams and ignoring the rest of the Sajam content ngl. Only reason I wanted to rant here was because I got more hate/borderline harassment leaving a comment trying to word that politely on the vid summary lmfao.

      @blujay1294@blujay1294Ай бұрын
    • @@blujay1294 Yeah I feel like the ping thing was a series of several unfortunate misunderstandings that couldn't really be walked back on. I didn't understand what the big deal was while watching the event but I can see how it might have slowed the momentum of it a bit. Luckily people were trying to salvage the vibes and hopefully if a similar event in the future gets planned it will truly be region-locked

    @anonymousnate678@anonymousnate678Ай бұрын
    • The truth that people dont want to accept is that in a game without actual straight up broken exploits like Gambit glitch and shit like that, winning the set pretty much inarguably shows that you are legitimately just better at the game than your opponent. As the wise man Sajam himself once said, at some point you have to accept that you gotta play the game as it is, not how you wish it would or think it should be.

  • This, might actually be my new favorite CONEY video. Up till now it was the “Bad Things Happening to Good People” tournament video but, yeah this might take the cake. CONEY’s phenomenal storytelling capability paired with the beautiful editing and enthralling tournament details makes this, PERFECT

  • Instant all-time great Coney vid. Your commentary really sold the emotional investment, and I was instantly sucked in and cheering as a tekken heathen.

  • This video single handedly convinced me I need to watch Tekken. Coney screaming in hype had me in tears, not from laughing, but from being overwhelmed with how much emotion and passion each moment had. I will never play Tekken, but god DAMN dude. What a good ass game.

  • I wish Coney could make more super super high quality videos like this because they’re so much fun to watch but the amount of time it takes not only to record but also edit and write the scripts takes so long it’s always a treat to see when he does them. Great video Coney would love to see another one similar to this one eventually

  • What a riveting story! I was cheering you on from the minute I saw you were on the streamer roster, and watched y'all play live as I prepped for uni midterms. And thanks for your honesty about the game. I personally love it, but with the time available to me, I can only learn enough to play relatively casually. It's great to see how you came to your own conclusions about it. Thanks for sharing this adventure with us!

  • Dude what a fucking video this was genuinely amazing I cried. I've played esports all my life and played professionally for a few years from 2016-2018. And the heart and effort that I felt from that team made me remember some good times. God I can't explain how fun that was to watch. Thanks Coney. Couldn't agree more with the ending message tho it's exactly how I feel about acutally PLAYING in esports now adays word for word.

  • I'm glad that you mentioned that you're gonna play it casually. I feel like people don't understand that you don't have to aim for the moon in every single competitive game, sometimes it's fun to just boot up and play a few online and call it a day. At the end of the day it's a video game and meant to be enjoyed at any skill level

  • If this is your first time seeing the Sajam Slam and the coach fight felt hype as fuck watching this, I'd HIGHLY recommend scouting out the vod. LazyMattMan and Brawlpro played a friendly set against Imaqtpie and Joey Fury (the people they would've fought if it got past the first 3 games) and they were incredible.
